A Machine Learning Framework For Ddos Attack Detection In Sdn-Enabled Mobile Wireless Networks, Ishita Sharma, Satyam Agarwai, Shashi Shekhar Jha, Sumit Chakravarty

Faculty Articles

Attacks on network components and devices pose a significant threat to service continuity, necessitating robust detection mechanisms. This paper presents a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack detection framework tailored for heterogeneous mobile wireless networks within a Software-Defined Networking architecture. A two-tier model is proposed: localized attack detection at access points (APs) using a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) classifier, and centralized detection under mobility at the controller using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model. The system incorporates novel traffic features such as flow count, speed of source IP, source and destination IP address entropy, proportion of bidirectional flows, and handover frequency, …

La Mujer Como Objeto De Consumo. Análisis Crítico De La Representación Femenina En Los Anuncios De Moda Vaquera, Ana Vicens Poveda

Congresos y Conferencias

Femme Aux Serpents, La Representación De La Lujuria En [Ponencia] Xi Coloquio Virtual Internacional De Investigadores En Diseño, M. Mar Martínez-Oña

Congresos y Conferencias

Preparing For The Workforce: An Analysis Of Employability In Business Education, Maddie Quintanilla Apr 2026

Preparing For The Workforce: An Analysis Of Employability In Business Education, Maddie Quintanilla

Masters Projects

Research has shown that undergraduate business students are not prepared for the workforce upon graduation. When it comes to career readiness, there is a gap between employers, universities, including Grand Valley State University, and students. This project investigates employers' expectations of universities and graduates, as well as the critical skills and strategies that graduates require to be employable after graduation. A comprehensive experiential learning course must address academic, career, and personal readiness while acknowledging the complexity of this transition, including the change from college to the workplace. The Business Internship Course is intended to assist undergraduate business students in their …

Academic Advising As A Pathway To Belonging: Examining The Sense Of Belonging Of West African International Students In United States Universities, Samuel A. Ahutorvie Apr 2026

Academic Advising As A Pathway To Belonging: Examining The Sense Of Belonging Of West African International Students In United States Universities, Samuel A. Ahutorvie

Masters Projects

West African international students pursuing higher education in the United States encounter several challenges upon their arrival, including cultural adjustment, racial experiences, language barriers, and navigating unfamiliar academic systems. These challenges can significantly impact their perception of the institution, particularly their sense of belonging. Research indicates that when students feel a sense of belonging, it positively influences their academic success, confidence, and overall well-being. However, many current institutional practices, particularly in academic advising, do not fully account for the cultural and racial experiences of these students. To address these challenges, this project introduces the Culturally Responsive Academic Advising Intervention (CRAAI) …

What Multiple Theories Can Illuminate In Qualitative Research, Sherry Marx, Rachel Billings, Taylor Dexter, Mark T. Lewis, Patrick Ocran, Douglas Weber Apr 2026

What Multiple Theories Can Illuminate In Qualitative Research, Sherry Marx, Rachel Billings, Taylor Dexter, Mark T. Lewis, Patrick Ocran, Douglas Weber

The Qualitative Report

Our aim in this paper is to help scholars better understand theory’s purpose in qualitative research, how it is employed in data analysis, and the strengths and limitations of the insights it can reveal. We do this by sharing our practice using multiple theories to make sense of a common data set in an advanced doctoral class focused on theory in qualitative research. For the class final project, students chose different theories to analyze one common data set: A brief historical article on the Los Angeles Zoot Suit Riots. Student-chosen theories included constructivism, actor-network theory, symbolic interactionism, critical race theory, …

Slow Librarianship For Healthier Libraries And Library Workers, Meredith Farkas Apr 2026

Slow Librarianship For Healthier Libraries And Library Workers, Meredith Farkas

Bryant Jackson Lectureship

We live in an individualistic achievement society that encourages people to chase external validation by putting the focus on innovation and competition over collaboration and collective care. Many of these dynamics are at play in the library and information science profession, leading to toxic cultures of scarcity, low morale, burnout, and disproportionate harm to BIPOC library workers and patrons. We have the power to imagine new futures that will equip us to better serve our patrons and support our collective well-being. Slow librarianship focuses on relationship-building, values-driven work, quality over quantity, solidarity, antiracism, and reflective practice.

Programmable Metal−Organic Complex Arrays With Precisely Controlled Metal Sequences As Tunable Multinuclear Scaffolds, Ahmed Alzamly, Sajid Ali

Faculty Scholarship

Metal−Organic Complex Arrays (MOCAs) offer a modular framework for creating multinuclear systems with precise control over metal ion identity and sequencing at the molecular scale. This structural accuracy allows researchers to investigate how specific metal arrangements dictate cooperative phenomena, such as catalytic efficiency, electronic interactions, and photophysical responses. Recent breakthroughs in synthetic strategies  including orthogonal protection and periodic metalation have enabled the fabrication of highly predictable heterometallic structures. This Review explores the fundamental principles of MOCAs’ sequence control, contemporary fabrication techniques, and the relationship between metal placement and emergent properties. Additionally, it examines applications of MOCA in catalysis, sensing, and …

Social Determinants Of Health And Caregiver Mental Health Screening In The Neontal Intensive Care Unit, Chloe Hicks Fisher Apr 2026

Social Determinants Of Health And Caregiver Mental Health Screening In The Neontal Intensive Care Unit, Chloe Hicks Fisher

Master's Theses (2009 -)

Perinatal mental health conditions affect approximately one in five mothers and one in ten fathers in the United States, and caregivers of newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are at an elevated risk for developing mental health conditions due to the significant stress associated with infant hospitalization. However, not all caregivers complete mental health screenings, raising concern that current protocols may be failing to reach a meaningful subset of this population. Social determinants of health (SDOH) are non-medical factors that influence health outcomes and are known risk factors for mental health conditions in perinatal populations. The present …

The Polymerized Protein Response (Ppr) Is Activated By Genetic Variants That Polymerize In The Er And Is Mediated By Nfκbp50, Admire Munanairi, David A Rudnick, Jiansheng Huang, David H Perlmutter Apr 2026

The Polymerized Protein Response (Ppr) Is Activated By Genetic Variants That Polymerize In The Er And Is Mediated By Nfκbp50, Admire Munanairi, David A Rudnick, Jiansheng Huang, David H Perlmutter

2020-Current year OA Pubs

In previous studies we have shown that accumulation of the polymerogenic variant ATZ that causes α1-antitrypsin deficiency (ATD) activates NFκB DNA binding. Here we discovered that this response, which we are naming the polymerized protein response (PPR), is characterized by NFκB p50 homodimers, distinct from the p50/p65 heterodimers in the canonical NFκB inflammatory response and the unfolded protein response (UPR). The PPR is also activated by other disease associated variants that polymerize in the ER whereas disease-associated variants that do not form polymers activate p50/p65 heterodimers and UPR. The PPR elicits a unique gene expression profile, including changes that stabilize …

Christian Motifs In Forough Farrokhzad’S Works: A Comparison With T.S. Eliot’S Poetry, Mona Monsefi

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

Forough Farrokhzad’s (1934–1967) film The House is Black (1962) is a visual poem set in a leprosarium in Iran. Farrokhzad was a prominent modernist poet who merged poetry with contemporary art forms, primarily cinema. In this film, she employed a camera to express her poetic vision, highlighting her signature style that prioritizes unique imagery. This emphasis on visual and literary images is often intertwined with themes such as religion. Notably, Farrokhzad recomposed verses from the Old Testament, infusing them with her poetic language to enrich the film’s narrative. This article explores her unique, Western-influenced interpretation of Christian motifs in …

Vision And “Sur-Vision”: Intermediality And Alterity In The Frames Of Abbas Kiarostami, Marjan Mohammadi Apr 2026

Vision And “Sur-Vision”: Intermediality And Alterity In The Frames Of Abbas Kiarostami, Marjan Mohammadi

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

Abbas Kiarostami’s cinema, often compared to Italian neorealism, oscillates between documentation and fiction. Kiarostami’s worlds, replete with a complex network of incomplete and self-reflexive frames, create a new site for perception, reflection, and intervention. This paper studies the intermedial aspect of Kiarostami’s cinema in “The Koker Trilogy” (1987; 1992; 1994), Close-Up (1990), and “Taste of Cherry” (1997). It explores how these moving images are shaped by the specific context of Iranian cinema and how they turn to reshape it. First, it examines Kiarostami’s framing techniques, which expand Iranian cinema and its engagement with Western visual conventions. …

Willy Loman’S Desperate Affair Challenges The Iranian Censorship: Asghar Farhadi’S The Salesman, Adineh Khojastehpour

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

This study examines resistance in cross-cultural adaptations, focusing on Asghar Farhadi's The Salesman (2016), an adaptation of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman (1949). This research investigates how Farhadi's rewriting of Miller's play within post-revolutionary Iran engages in a dialogue with the Islamic Republic and its dominant discourses. It explores how this adaptation addresses Iran's social, cultural, and ideological complexities by reframing Miller's narrative of 1950s societal change and the failure of the American Dream within the context of post-revolutionary Iran. This analysis uses Bakhtin's concept of the chronotope to reveal how The Salesman uses Miller's unique concept of a …

Cineture: The Trans(Inter)Mediality And Socio-Cultural Mobility Between Iran And The Us, Naghmeh Esmaeilpour

CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture

Literature and film have proven to be influential socio-cultural mediums, facilitating interactions and counteractions between nations where politics often fail to do so. Introducing cineture as a transmedial genre, this article is situated at the intersections of glocalized culture, and Iranian-American studies by considering literature and film as the contact zone between Iranians and Americans. Cineture, the combination of cinema and literature, refers to the circulation of cultures through its specification of film-text transmediation. The application of cineture demonstrates the combination and blending of literary and cinematic works leading to cross the “center and periphery dichotomy.” To study cineture …
