"Proventing" Intimate Partner Violence-Related Attitudes Through Arts-Based Peace Education: A Sequential Explanatory Study Of Dancing Classrooms Alumni, Cody Wehlan
Doctor of International Conflict Management Dissertations
Research links intimate partner violence (IPV) to socialized, and often gendered, power-over attitudes that view abuse, control, and physical violence against, or by, an intimate partner as acceptable and appropriate in various contexts. While many IPV prevention programs emphasize education for reducing intimate partner violence-related attitudes (IPVA), most programs respond after violence has occurred and are often ineffective. Presenting an innovative form of proactive prevention, or “provention”, this dissertation combines arts-based peace education, youth IPV prevention, and intergroup contact theory (ICT) to outline how youth-focused social dance may effectively provent IPVA risk factors by teaching young people collaborative, power-with social …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
Based on FLAC3D finite difference software, this paper conducts numerical simulations of both flexible gabion revetment structures and rigid revetment structures to compare their deformation and stress characteristics. The results indicate that the flexible gabion revetment structure demonstrates excellent applicability for soft soil subgrades in lake districts. Compared with rigid revetment structures, the gabion revetment structure improves overturning stability through coordinated deformation within the foundation. It significantly reduces the basal stress, thus lowering the bearing capacity requirements for the foundation, and ensures a more uniform stress distribution at the base, minimizing differential settlement and enhancing foundation stability. Moreover, the gabion …

The Yukon Kuskokwim Delta region of Alaska consists of over 100,000 small lakes; it is one of the largest lake-dense regions of Alaska. These small lakes are critical aquatic ecosystems that provide habitats for wildlife and play an important role in carbon and nutrient cycling. Lakes in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta have a wide range of visible and near-infrared satellite spectra, which can vary over small spatial scales. These spectral differences may provide insight into the environmental properties of these small shallow lakes. Therefore, we want to investigate the relationship between the spectral data and environmental differences in these lakes. …
Fight To Ignite: The Impacts Of Climate Change On Prescribed Burning In Pine Forests, Chloe Anderson
Fight To Ignite: The Impacts Of Climate Change On Prescribed Burning In Pine Forests, Chloe Anderson
Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)
Prescribed burning is a strategy that has been used to manage the health of forest ecosystems for thousands of years. While these practices have certainly evolved over time, recent impacts of climate change are threatening the future feasibility of implementing fire in forest management altogether. This ecological process is essential to restoring and maintaining a healthy forest ecosystem as fire acts as a catalyst by returning nutrients to soil and promoting healthy regrowth. Prescribed burning prepares forestlands for reforestation by destroying weeds and other competitive species so that native and fire-dependent species can reproduce. This process also lessens the fuel …

Identifying genetic variants that are associated with variation in DNA methylation, an analysis commonly referred to as methylation quantitative trait locus (meQTL) mapping, is an important first step towards understanding the genetic architecture underlying epigenetic variation. Most existing meQTL mapping studies have focused on individuals of European ancestry and are underrepresented in other populations, with a particular absence of large studies in populations with African ancestry. We fill this critical knowledge gap by performing a large-scale cis-meQTL mapping study in 961 African Americans from the Genetic Epidemiology Network of Arteriopathy (GENOA) study. We identify a total of 4,565,687 cis-acting meQTLs …
