A Chemistry-Transport Model Study For Source Contributions Of Pm2.5 And Its Implications For Southeast Asia Regional Haze Management Policy, Abdul Wahab Jan 2024

A Chemistry-Transport Model Study For Source Contributions Of Pm2.5 And Its Implications For Southeast Asia Regional Haze Management Policy, Abdul Wahab

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

PM2.5 pollution is a persistent issue in Southeast Asia. In response, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) launched the Second Hazefree Roadmap (2023-2030) to alleviate this issue. This roadmap can be an important institutional measure to reduce PM2.5 pollution regionally; however, it largely centres on biomass burning and does not comprehensively tackle other sources. This study aims to quantify the contributions of three key sectors—biomass burning, transport, and industry—to PM2.5 pollution. In addition, for the focus of Thailand, the study assesses transboundary PM2.5 pollution coming into Thailand. We employ the GEOS-Chem chemistry transport model, a widely used global model …

Experimental Investigation Of Self-Mixing Interferometric Technique For Displacement Assessment, Dulanjana Anuhas Egodagamage

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The self-mixing interferometric (SMI) technique has proven effective for achieving precise, contactless measurements of submicron displacements. This study aims to further investigate and experimentally assess the capabilities of the SMI technique in displacement sensing. While extensive research has been conducted on the SMI technique for displacement sensing, its performance can still be further explored in scenarios where the target exhibits varying displacement amplitudes and oscillation frequencies. Understanding the limitations and ranges of the SMI technique is crucial for advancing laboratory-based setups into practical applications. An experimental optoelectronic setup was used in this work, employing a semiconductor laser diode module integrated …

This research proposes a framework for generating enemy patterns for SHMUPs game. It is directly based on a grammar derived from the enemy behavior of existing commercial SHMUPs, and implemented using a new description language called "Enemy Pattern Description Language" (EPDL). EPDL contains all information required to construct the enemy, with no requirement of external data content. The language is human-readable and can be connected to any game engine of choice using an EPDL interpreter. The interpreter itself consists of lexer and recursive descent parser. The results shown in this research is implemented in. "rdnh", a private fork of Touhou …

Future-Proofing The Public Accounting Profession: Developing A Model Of Technology Acceptance For Public Accounting Firms, Tugas C. Florenz, Tereso S. Tullao Jr.

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This study aims to develop a socio-technical model of technology acceptance for public accounting firms in the Philippines. To do this, human construct (teamwork competence [TC] and technology readiness [TR]) and belief construct (ethical perception [EP]) were incorporated in the 1989 technology acceptance model (TAM) of Davis, which was composed of belief construct (perceived usefulness [PU] and perceived ease of use [PEOU]) and intention to use (ITU) construct. Data were collected from 609 external auditors from 11 Philippine-based public accounting firms with international affiliations. These were analyzed using partial least squares – structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The final model showed …

Do Generations Matter? The Moderating Role Of Media In Adherence To Covid-19 Quarantine Protocol, Luz Suplico Jeong, Reynaldo Bautista Jr., Nelson B. Guillen Jr., Solomon Oluyinka

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This study examined the perceptions of Filipinos from Generations X, Y, and Z towards adherence to COVID-19 quarantine protocol. Of the 400 Filipino respondents, 55 were Generation Xers, 86 were from Generation Y, whereas 259 were from Generation Z. Using the theory of planned behavior, the results suggest that there were no significant differences in how Generations X, Y, and Z responded to the quarantine protocol even if media moderated the relationship between self-efficacy and adherence to quarantine protocol. Thus, marketers can use a standardized campaign to encourage Generations X, Y, and Z to adhere to the quarantine protocol.

Mediators Of Non-Financial Disclosures And Firm Value Of Consumer Goods Companies, Ikponmwosa Michael Igbinovia, Chizoba Marcella Ekwueme

DLSU Business & Economics Review

The study examines the mediators of non-financial disclosures and firm value among non-financial firms quoted in the consumer goods sector of the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) for the period 2011 to 2018. A quantitative approach using structural equation modeling (SEM) path analysis was applied to investigate the mediating role of proposed channels of transmitting non-financial disclosures to firm value. The study finds that non-financial disclosures have significant effects on the firm value of quoted consumer goods firms in Nigeria. Profitability was found to significantly mediate the effect of social disclosures on the firm value of sampled firms in Nigeria, but …

Impossibility Of Artificial Inventors, Mateusz Blaszczyk Jan 2024

Impossibility Of Artificial Inventors, Mateusz Blaszczyk

Scholarly Works

Recently, the United Kingdom Supreme Court decided that only natural persons can be considered inventors. A year before, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a similar decision. In fact, so have many of the courts all over the world. This Article analyzes these decisions, argues that the courts got it right, and finds that artificial inventorship is at odds with patent law doctrine, theory, and philosophy. This Article challenges the intellectual property (IP) post-humanists, exposing the analytical and normative perils of their argumentation, and recommends against getting rid of the nominally central place of humans …

“Our Hands Are Tied”: How State Educational Diversity Laws Affect Iowa Public Educators And How Educators Respond, Lydia Berns-Schweingruber Jan 2024

“Our Hands Are Tied”: How State Educational Diversity Laws Affect Iowa Public Educators And How Educators Respond, Lydia Berns-Schweingruber

Honors Program Theses

In May 2023, Iowa passed Senate File 496, which restricts public educators from sending students social-emotional learning surveys, requires public educators to inform parents when students request a pronoun change, and bans any books depicting a sexual act from public schools (Iowa Legislature 2023). Iowa and other states’ recent educational diversity laws are part of a broader history of public school censorship. This study examines how state educational diversity laws affect Iowa public educators and how educators respond. This paper draws on data from eight interviews with Iowa public teachers, administrators, and counselors. The findings show that state educational diversity …

Honors Program Theses

The U.S. legal system is difficult to navigate for anyone who is attempting to use it, but non-English-speaking individuals have a unique set of obstacles to overcome. Communicating and understanding legal jargon and processes can become increasingly strenuous when one does not speak English in a predominantly English system. This study is specifically focused on the barriers that Spanish-speaking clients face and potential ways to change the system in order to make the experiences of non-English speakers more accessible. By interviewing attorneys who work with both English and Spanish speaking clients, we gain insight into their perspective on issues they …

Gender Socialization And Social Media In College Students' Fear Of Crime, Ashlyn C. Miller Jan 2024

Gender Socialization And Social Media In College Students' Fear Of Crime, Ashlyn C. Miller

Honors Program Theses

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between gender (socialization), viewing crime related material on social media, and fear of crime experienced by college students. While violent crime rates have fallen, the majority of college students report levels of crime are increasing. Many individuals lack both knowledge and experience related to crime, leading media exposure to influence their levels of fear. Previous research has focused on television media related to fear of crime with little research on social media, the preferred media source of young adults. College students (n = 124) from a midwestern university completed a …

Information Provided By State Human Trafficking Websites: A Content Analysis, Brooklyn Dilley

Honors Program Theses

Human trafficking evolved from the legal and regulated slavery of the past and has likely been in existence throughout human history. Slavery was abolished in the United States in 1865, and slavery and servitude were prohibited globally through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 (United Nations General Assembly, 1948). Nevertheless, modern-day slavery has still thrived in the form of human trafficking. There have been many global and national efforts to combat human trafficking, including the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (OMCTP). The Trafficking Victims Protection …

Blockchain Based Framework For Secure And Decentralized Energy Trading - Transforming Local Energy Markets For Sustainable Communities, Saurabh Sachdeva Jan 2024

Blockchain Based Framework For Secure And Decentralized Energy Trading - Transforming Local Energy Markets For Sustainable Communities, Saurabh Sachdeva

Dissertations and Theses

The emergence of prosumers provides an opportunity for the setup of a local energy market (LEM) where individual households with distributed energy resources (DERs) can produce, store, and trade energy. Peer-to-peer(P2P) and decentralized energy trading (ET) can be implemented between the participants within or across microgrids. Several solutions based on the existing technologies have been proposed worldwide for the integration of prosumers in the existing energy setup and to enable and support ET, but these solutions present the issues of centralization, data integrity, and confidentiality, user and anonymity, and transparency. The applications of blockchain technology have recently become fascinating for …
