Implementation Of Viz.Ai Augmented Intelligence Software To Reduce Door To Puncture Times And Patient Outcomes At A Comprehensive Stroke Center, Cody Bryant, Brandon Womack, Mason Patel, Sanjay Sharma

North Texas GME Research Forum 2024

Introduction: Endovascular therapy (EVT) in the form of mechanical thrombectomy is the mainstay of treatment for acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) ischemic stroke, but its efficacy is highly time sensitive. It is crucial that stroke centers continue to implement process improvements that aim to streamline stroke workflow. Viz.AI is a platform that uses artificial intelligence to automatically detect LVOs with computed tomography (CT) imaging. It provides immediate access to the CT images as well as a platform for centralized communication through the mobile application. We sought to determine if the implementation of Viz.AI at our comprehensive stroke center improved stroke …

Comparing Large Language Models Accuracy In Following Interval Surveillance Colonoscopy Guidelines, Olufemi Osikoya, Gregory Brennan Jan 2024

Comparing Large Language Models Accuracy In Following Interval Surveillance Colonoscopy Guidelines, Olufemi Osikoya, Gregory Brennan

North Texas GME Research Forum 2024

Introduction: Providing pathology results and appropriate recommendations after resection of colon polyps is mandatory. Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and Google Bard, have shown promise in clinical workflows such as pathology results letters. We tested whether LLMs could provide appropriate surveillance recommendations based on current guidelines from the US multi-society task force for post-colonoscopy follow-up. Methods: Our aim was to compare the accuracy of ChatGPT 3.5, ChatGPT 4, and Google Bard in providing appropriate interval surveillance recommendations. An example prompt being “Write a patient pathology result letter after a colonoscopy with one tubular adenoma polyp (< 10mm) resected. Include recommendations for when the next surveillance colonoscopy should be completed.” Seventeen different post polypectomy surveillance queries and responses were analyzed (correct, partially correct, incorrect) compared to USMSTF guidelines. Results: When …

Project Portfolio: Raft: Rise Above The Flood Of Tears A Mental Health Resource, Rebecca Hald Jan 2024

Project Portfolio: Raft: Rise Above The Flood Of Tears A Mental Health Resource, Rebecca Hald

Doctor of Leadership

Struggles with mental health have had a history of being ignored, condemned, or relegated to a lack of faith by the Church. Rather than finding a place of hope, those who struggle have often found a place of condemnation. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a rise globally in mental health struggles. Pastors faced a unique challenge ministering during this season and there has been a great toll on the mental health of pastors. Considering the historic stance of the church on mental health, rise in mental health struggles in pastors post- COVID, and having been …

40-Day Fit, A Journey For Heroes, Michael B. O'Neill Jan 2024

40-Day Fit, A Journey For Heroes, Michael B. O'Neill

Doctor of Leadership

This project is a collective portfolio of discovery and development that explores the intersection of societal health and the vitality of the church, recognizing a state of decline in both areas. This critical, yet often overlooked issue, is the foundation of this research-driven initiative. It is a practical process of diagnosis and treatment of a problem or an opportunity, in context, leading to application. The portfolio project represents a journey of discovery and reframing, where research methods, strategic objectives, and project milestones guide the identification of needs, problems, and opportunities. These elements serve as the driving forces behind crafting solutions …

The Holy Imagination Of God: An Invitation To Dissent: Fostering Inclusive Theology For Holistic Understanding, Justice, And Liberation, Daron George Jan 2024

The Holy Imagination Of God: An Invitation To Dissent: Fostering Inclusive Theology For Holistic Understanding, Justice, And Liberation, Daron George

Doctor of Leadership

The Western American Evangelical theological tradition has been marred by expressions of homophobia, misogyny, racism, and a problematic alignment with political power. This prevailing theological stance, lacking in inclusivity and imagination, has hindered a holistic understanding of faith and justice, precipitating a crisis within many evangelical churches. This project proposes a novel pathway for those disillusioned with or departed from the evangelical church, commonly referred to as ex-evangelicals.

Central to this project is the exploratory question: “What was in God’s imagination in the beginning?” While not claiming to discern God's intentions definitively, this inquiry has yielded insights valuable to the …

Underground Blast Fragmentation Modeling For Use In The Mine-To-Mill Strategy, Lauren Shields Jan 2024

Underground Blast Fragmentation Modeling For Use In The Mine-To-Mill Strategy, Lauren Shields

Theses and Dissertations--Mining Engineering

More than 40 years ago, the mine-to-mill concept was introduced in the mining industry by establishing a relationship or link between processing and mining activities. To date, many successful case studies have documented the evident benefits of the mine-to-mill approach. In most cases, the basis of the mine-to-mill approach is to tailor the details of a blast design and its proper execution in order to satisfy specific mineral processing requirements downstream. Most of the available literature and case studies deal with surface mine operations. Due to the relative simplicity of surface mining, the relationship between the powder factor, defined as …

Eliding Consent In The Case Of Pandemic Countermeasures Authorized Only For Emergency Use, Lars Noah Jan 2024

Eliding Consent In The Case Of Pandemic Countermeasures Authorized Only For Emergency Use, Lars Noah

UF Law Faculty Publications

Four months after the first vaccines against Covid-19 became available to the public, and just as some universities announced plans to require inoculations, the Boston Globe quoted me as (alone) suggesting that mandates would conflict with federal law. When Congress created a special mechanism for the emergency use of still investigational products, it directed providers to reveal, among other things, that individuals remained free to decline such an intervention; only after full FDA approval of a medical countermeasure would this disclosure obligation become inapplicable. I have watched with dismay over the last three years as nearly everyone—including Executive branch officials, …

Does Federal Preemption Inoculate Us Against The Alarming Prospect Of State Vaccine Bans?, Lars Noah Jan 2024

Does Federal Preemption Inoculate Us Against The Alarming Prospect Of State Vaccine Bans?, Lars Noah

UF Law Faculty Publications

With growing resistance to vaccinations-premised, for instance, on misplaced fears of side effects or religious objections-it takes little effort to imagine that a state might act to prohibit some or all uses of a particular vaccine licensed by the federal government. Indeed, one year ago, legislators in a couple of states toyed with the idea of banning the primary vaccines against Covid-19, and, twenty years ago, half a dozen states effectively barred certain uses of one flu vaccine formulation. Although federal law should preempt at least some of these types of state restrictions, the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution …

How To Get The Property Out Of Privacy Law, Jane R. Bambauer Jan 2024

How To Get The Property Out Of Privacy Law, Jane R. Bambauer

UF Law Faculty Publications

For the last ten years, American rhetoric and state lawmaking has attempted to provide consumers with greater and stickier property interest in their personal information. But the impracticalities of the sticky property model are becoming evident, and will be impossible to ignore as AI becomes more prevalent and useful. This Article critiques the property framework in privacy law, and explains how a risk-based approach can be modernized and implemented instead. An enduring system of privacy laws will manage risks rather than bestowing rights to control and delete information. To do this, data practices should be categorized into safe harbor practices …

Fda Regulation Of Physicians' Professional Speech, Barbara J. Evans Jan 2024

Fda Regulation Of Physicians' Professional Speech, Barbara J. Evans

UF Law Faculty Publications

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution constrains FDA’s power to impose content-based restrictions on physicians’ professional speech – that is, on the expert medical advice licensed physicians render to patients during clinical treatment encounters. In 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clarified its plans to regulate clinical decision support (CDS) software by publishing a final guidance document. CDS tools process patient-specific health information along with various other sources of medical knowledge – such as clinical practice guidelines, drug labeling information, insights from published medical literature, or fresh insights gleaned by an artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) algorithm imbedded …

Discretionary Investing By 'Passive' S&P 500 Funds, Peter Molk, Adriana Z. Robertson Jan 2024

Discretionary Investing By 'Passive' S&P 500 Funds, Peter Molk, Adriana Z. Robertson

UF Law Faculty Publications

So-called passive index funds—investment funds that are designed to track a pre-specified underlying index—have become a dominant force in the investing landscape, collectively controlling over $12 trillion in assets. It is widely assumed that these funds are obligated to follow their underlying index, and that fund managers cannot, or do not, select portfolios that deviate from that of the index. As a result, various critics have attacked these funds, including raising concerns about their corporate governance incentives to fears about their influence on market efficiency.

We show that this assumption is overly simplistic both as a matter of law and …

Defamation, Bankruptcy & The First Amendment, Christopher D. Hampson Jan 2024

Defamation, Bankruptcy & The First Amendment, Christopher D. Hampson

UF Law Faculty Publications

In recent years, a series of high-profile defamation cases has wound up in bankruptcy court, involving such colorful characters as Rudy Giuliani, Alex Jones, and Cardi B. As demands and verdicts swell with the rise of social media in a polarized age, defamation defendants are filing bankruptcy more frequently and at earlier stages of litigation. But that doesn’t mean bankruptcy is a magic wand for waving away debt. To the contrary, much defamation debt may be nondischargeable as “willful and malicious” under section 523 of the Bankruptcy Code. Of course, consumer bankruptcy attorneys are all too familiar with bankruptcy’s discharge …

Highly portable and accessible MRI technology will allow researchers to conduct field-based MRI research in community settings. Previous guidance for researchers working with fixed MRI does not address the novel ethical, legal, and societal issues (ELSI) of portable MRI (pMRI). Our interdisciplinary Working Group (WG) previously identified 15 core ELSI challenges associated with pMRI research and recommended solutions. In this article, we distill those detailed recommendations into a Portable MRI Research ELSI Checklist that offers practical operational guidance for researchers contemplating using this technology.

Ethical Oversight And Social Licensing Of Portable Mri Research, Barbara J. Evans Jan 2024

Ethical Oversight And Social Licensing Of Portable Mri Research, Barbara J. Evans

UF Law Faculty Publications

This article explores two questions: (1) whether portable MRI research might escape regulatory oversight altogether under existing U.S. privacy and research ethical frameworks, leaving research participants without adequate protections, and (2) whether existing regulatory frameworks, when they do apply, can guard society’s broader interest in ensuring that portable MRI research pursues socially beneficial, ethically sound aims that minimize the potential for externalities affecting nonparticipating individuals and groups, who might be stigmatized or otherwise harmed even if they decline participation in the research.

Bankruptcy Fiduciaries, Christopher D. Hampson Jan 2024

Bankruptcy Fiduciaries, Christopher D. Hampson

UF Law Faculty Publications

Does social enterprise end with insolvency? Is bankruptcy all about the bottom line? The answer to these questions begins with understanding the estate in bankruptcy and the fiduciaries that control its fate. Yet the law of fiduciary duties in bankruptcy is undertheorized, conflicted, and muddled. After almost fifty years of confusion, this Article provides the first comprehensive examination of the nature and source of fiduciary duties in bankruptcy. Although the Supreme Court has intoned “maximize the value of the estate” as a shorthand, I argue that the trustee’s duty of obedience in reorganization cases gives rise to a “duty to …

The Florida-Ucc Filing System Disaster, Lynn M. Lopucki Jan 2024

The Florida-Ucc Filing System Disaster, Lynn M. Lopucki

UF Law Faculty Publications

Since the widespread adoption of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) in the 1960s, the UCC's name-based filing system has been a constant embarrassment to its drafters. System overhauls in 1998 and 2010 failed to fix it.

In Florida, the problem came to a head in 1944 Beach Boulevard, LLC v. Live Oak Banking. Based on a widely shared misunderstanding of how Florida's unorthodox, privatized UCC filing system worked, the Florida Supreme Court held that the system had no search logic, so the UCC § 9-506(c) safe harbor from debtor name errors did not apply. Instead, a "zero-tolerance" test applied, …
