Supporting Multilingual Learners Through Culturally Responsive Practices, Betsy Twedell Sep 2026

Supporting Multilingual Learners Through Culturally Responsive Practices, Betsy Twedell

Graduate Teacher Education

This literature review examined how educational leaders can implement culturally responsive practices to support multilingual learners, improve academic achievement, encourage a sense of belonging, and advance equitable educational outcomes. A total of sixteen qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies were reviewed, along with two conceptual studies that provided additional guidance. Three recurring themes emerged: culturally and linguistically responsive practices, professional development, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). The research suggested that multilingual learners were best supported when educators viewed students’ languages, cultures, identities, and lived experiences as academic assets and integrated these resources into instruction. Findings also showed that professional development …

Leadership, Employee Sustainability, And Organizational Resilience, Lois D. Saunders

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ineffective leadership practices can be counterproductive to an organization’s goals. This issue is important to executives because ineffective leadership practices can contribute to employee disengagement, increased turnover, and reduced organizational performance. Grounded in transformational and servant leadership theories, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore leadership practices used by executives to promote employee sustainability and organizational resilience in private sector organizations within the Washington metropolitan (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia [DMV]) region. The participants were 10 executives from private sector organizations in the DMV region who served in CEO, senior management, and operational leadership roles and …

Impact Of Sexual Orientation On Syphilis Diagnosis Among African American Men In Colorado, Emmanuel Bhatti

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Syphilis remains an ongoing public health concern among African American men. Elevated rates during the COVID-19 pandemic further underscored the need for focused attention on this population. The risk factors driving syphilis diagnosis among African American men during a pandemic like COVID-19 remain poorly understood. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional study was to examine the association between sexual orientation and syphilis diagnosis among African American men in Colorado. Social cognitive theory was applied to understand the interaction among sexual orientation, HIV status, age, and syphilis diagnosis. Sexual orientation categories include men who have sex with men (MSM), men who …

Between Extinction And Hubris: A Dialectical Approach To Ai Risk, Control, And Governance, Elise Annett, James Giordano Sep 2026

Between Extinction And Hubris: A Dialectical Approach To Ai Risk, Control, And Governance, Elise Annett, James Giordano

Strategic Insights

This Strategic Insights article looks at risks associated with autonomous artificial intelligence systems and the challenges they pose for human control and institutional governance. Dr. Annett and Dr. Giordano argue that near-term risks stem not only from advancing AI capabilities but also from the progressive transfer of human decision-making and agency to AI systems, particularly in military and intelligence contexts. They propose an adaptive governance framework emphasizing continuous testing and evaluation, meaningful human control, clear accountability, graduated autonomy thresholds, independent oversight, and international norms for high-risk AI applications.

Trustworthy Golden-Subject Identification For Motor Imagery Brain-Computer Interface Applications Using A Unified Fwzic-Vikor Framework, Ghadeer Ghazi Shayea Sep 2026

Trustworthy Golden-Subject Identification For Motor Imagery Brain-Computer Interface Applications Using A Unified Fwzic-Vikor Framework, Ghadeer Ghazi Shayea

Mesopotamian Journal of Computer Science

Motor imagery-based brain-computer interfaces (MI-BCIs) remain limited by inter-subject variability, nonstationary EEG characteristics, and the difficulty of identifying a reliable golden subject for subject-to-subject transfer learning. Previous version of HAFL study used fuzzy decision by opinion score method (FDOSM) to identify a golden subject. However, the decision-making layer can be strengthened by explicitly separating criteria weighting from compromise ranking. This study extends the published framework by developing a unified 9 × 18 Golden Subject Decision Matrix (UGSDM), where nine subjects are evaluated simultaneously across nine training-phase criteria and nine evaluation-phase criteria. FWZIC is used to calculate the importance weights of …

Iatrogenic Pseudoaneurysm After Arthroscopic Knee Procedures: A Systematic Review Of Presenting Features, Injured Vessels, Management, And Outcomes, Ethan J. Sack, Max Deneroff, Zubair Mohammed, Austin Khau, Chadi Ellaham, Jared Nichols

Student Publications

Pseudoaneurysm after arthroscopic knee procedures is uncommon but clinically important because it can initially resemble routine postoperative swelling, hematoma, recurrent hemarthrosis, deep vein thrombosis, infection, or compartment syndrome. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were searched through July 9, 2026. The original database pathway yielded 312 records and 54 included reports representing 60 patient cases. During peer-review citation audit, three additional potentially eligible reports were identified; two full texts were retrieved and included, while one report could not be retrieved and was not used for patient-level inference. The final synthesis therefore included 56 reports and 62 patient cases. Using a mutually exclusive …

Statistical Triangulation: Weighing Multiple Statistical Tools In Macro-Level Housing Research, Julio Montanez, Amy Donley, Jacquelyn Reiss Sep 2026

Statistical Triangulation: Weighing Multiple Statistical Tools In Macro-Level Housing Research, Julio Montanez, Amy Donley, Jacquelyn Reiss

Journal of Applied Disciplines

Homelessness and housing research has a detection problem, in which understanding housing issues (e.g., substandard housing) is plagued by problems like undercounting and incomplete data. To partially compensate for these pitfalls, the current research engages in an exercise aiming to sharpen the statistical approach to homelessness and housing research. The macro-level sample included Florida’s 27 Continuums of Care geographies (composed of one or more Florida counties). The dependent variables were sheltered homelessness, energy-based substandard housing, and plumbing-based substandard housing. The independent variables were misdemeanor partner violence rates, felony partner violence rates, high school non-completion rates, urbanicity, and population burdens of …

Federated System For Synchronous Root Cause Analysis Of System Incidents, Nikhil Kumar, Akash Verma Sep 2026

Federated System For Synchronous Root Cause Analysis Of System Incidents, Nikhil Kumar, Akash Verma

Defensive Publications Series

Initial response to system incidents in complex software environments can involve a manual process of context gathering, which may delay mitigation and increase cognitive load on engineers. A system can utilize a federated network of autonomous diagnostic agents that can trigger in response to a system alert. An agent can autonomously gather telemetry data from various sources, such as logs, metrics, and source code repositories, and can use an analytical model to perform causal synthesis. The system can then generate and deliver a human-readable root cause hypothesis with supporting evidence to a response team. This approach may automate initial data …

Public Sector Experiences Of Disruptions In The Psychological Contract: The Influence Of Ideological Currency And Digital Transformation On Public Servants, Willemijn Van Haeften, Xander Lub, Pascal Ravesteijn, Pascale Peters Sep 2026

Public Sector Experiences Of Disruptions In The Psychological Contract: The Influence Of Ideological Currency And Digital Transformation On Public Servants, Willemijn Van Haeften, Xander Lub, Pascal Ravesteijn, Pascale Peters

Communications of the IIMA

Digital transformation is reshaping public-sector work and may alter how public servants evaluate their psychological contract with their employer. This research-in-progress examines how critical incidents associated with digital transformation disrupt psychological contracts and how ideological currency, the perceived commitment to valued societal causes or principles, shapes subsequent trajectories toward renegotiation, repair, or exit. The study uses a qualitative phenomenological design based on semi-structured interviews with 20 employees from five Dutch municipalities experiencing transformation-related changes. The Critical Incident Technique is combined with the dynamic psychological contract phase model to reconstruct disruption trajectories, while thematic analysis identifies recurring patterns across cases. Preliminary …

A Christian's Formative Years And Their Worship Music Preferences, Cara L. Coffey Hall Sep 2026

A Christian's Formative Years And Their Worship Music Preferences, Cara L. Coffey Hall

Masters Theses

This study examines how Christians’ formative faith experiences influence lifelong worship music preferences. While discussions of worship music often emphasize generational differences or stylistic preferences, this study investigates whether formative spiritual experiences provide a more meaningful explanation for long-term worship preferences. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between formative faith experiences, age of conversion, and lifelong worship music among adult members and attendees at Northwest Hills Global Methodist Church. A convergent mixed-methods design was employed. Quantitative data was collected through an anonymous survey completed by 102 qualified participants and qualitative data was gathered through interviews with …

"I Will Not Hear The Melody Of Thy Viols": Opposition To Instrumental Music In Historic Presbyterian And Puritan Worship, Sean Patrick Michael Mcdonald Sep 2026

"I Will Not Hear The Melody Of Thy Viols": Opposition To Instrumental Music In Historic Presbyterian And Puritan Worship, Sean Patrick Michael Mcdonald

Masters Theses

The parallel movements of Presbyterianism in Scotland and Puritanism in England began and developed in the 1500s. Early on, both of these movements established their opposition to musical instruments in the public worship of God. This was not merely incidental to their worship, as though instrumental music could be added without any significant alteration to Presbyterianism or Puritanism as such. Rather, the rejection of musical instruments (usually organs) was essential to their worship, and inseparably tied to key theological principles.

Visualizing Equity: A Design Framework For Global Mental Health Communication For Generation Z, Jose Pena Sep 2026

Visualizing Equity: A Design Framework For Global Mental Health Communication For Generation Z, Jose Pena

Masters Theses

There is a lot of information about mental health available today. However, for Generation Z, those born between 1997 and 2012, the information proves both challenging to find and difficult to understand. The World Health Organization and other global groups publish a lot of information about mental health inequality, treatment gaps, and workforce shortages. However, this information is usually presented in dense, technical formats that are not meant for young people who are not experts. Many digital mental health tools, on the other hand, don’t give young people the emotional connection, cultural relevance, and visual clarity they need to deal …
