For My Oklahomies: Educators’ Perspectives On Policy, Public Discourse, And Professional Wellbeing, Cassandra Herndon May 2026

For My Oklahomies: Educators’ Perspectives On Policy, Public Discourse, And Professional Wellbeing, Cassandra Herndon

Dissertations

This critical qualitative study examines how ideologies rooted in ultra-conservative movements shape the professional lives of Oklahoma K–12 educators, and how they maneuver, resist, or accommodate ideological forces within a climate of surveillance and professional delegitimization. Grounded in critical social theory and drawing on Foucault (1977) and Leonardo (2003), the study applies a recontextualized model of transformational resistance (Hannegan-Martinez et al., 2024) to analyze educators’ acts of agency within a restrictive policy landscape.

Drawing on semi-structured interviews with eight Oklahoma K–12 teachers and administrators, this study employs critical narrative inquiry alongside reflexive thematic and critical policy analysis to ask: (1) …

Positioning Rights And Duties For Parent Representation At The Cac For Special Education Table: A Result Of Cbpar, Summer Girgis May 2026

Positioning Rights And Duties For Parent Representation At The Cac For Special Education Table: A Result Of Cbpar, Summer Girgis

Dissertations

This dissertation explores the impact of parents’ social justice advocacy on their local Community Advisory Committee for Special Education (CAC) policy and practice. While California state mandates a CAC that includes parent-district collaboration in decision-making, several Southern California districts oppress eager voices and willing participants. On the premise that policy implementation was absent and that parents wanted to exercise their right to implementation, this study aimed to identify: RQ1) how families of students with disabilities communicate their wants and needs to districts and SELPA personnel, and RQ2) the critical elements or components of establishing a collaborative partnership. With eight mothers …

Holistic Management Of Epilepsy In Adults With Intellectual Development Disorders, Elena Fonseca, Antonella Riva, Samuel López‐Maza, Malin Zaddach, Marie‐Claire Porter, Ingo Borggraefe, Lance Watkins, Andreas Schulze‐Bonhage, Rohit Shankar, Pasquale Striano, Lina Nashef

Peninsula Medical School

This seminar addresses the complexity of the management of epilepsy in adults with intellectual development disorders (IDD), advocating holistic and multidisciplinary care aligned with the learning objectives of the International League Against Epilepsy. Epilepsy is significantly more prevalent in people with IDD, presenting unique diagnostic, therapeutic, and psychosocial challenges. Accurate diagnosis is hampered by limitations in communication, necessitating reliance on caregivers' observations. In adults with IDD and epilepsy, utilization of diagnostic tools, e.g., video electroencephalograph (EEG) monitoring, is helpful but can be challenging. Management requires careful consideration of cognitive and behavioral comorbidities and the effects of antiseizure medications (ASMs) on …

Peninsula Medical School

Social prescribing is a health policy initiative that aims to create closer links betweenhealth services and community activities. Despite its rapid adoption there are concernsabout efficacy and value for money. We used a WELLBY (Wellbeing Adjusted Life Year)approach to identify the social value created through a national mental health-focussedgreen social prescribing (GSP) programme in England (2021-23). We found that GSP canlead to significant wellbeing benefits for people experiencing mental ill-health, with asocial return on investment (SROI) of between £2.38-£5.90. However, we argue that theWELLBY approach should not be used uncritically. In our study WELLBYs proved to be aneffective social value …

Muscle Changes In Critically Ill Children Following An Early Progressive Exercise In The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit: A Pre- And Post-Intervention Study, Shaodan Qi, Yuxia Yang, Jing Hu, Weijie Shen, Hao Zhou, Jos M. Latour, Weiming Chen, Ying Gu

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Background: Most critically ill children in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) are immobilised. Prolonged immobilisation in the PICU negatively affects children's physical health outcomes. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an early progressive exercise (EPE) intervention to improve the PICU-acquired muscle weakness and to assess the safety of the EPE intervention. Study Design: A single-centre pre- and post-intervention design was adopted. The intervention was the EPE starting within 48–72 h after PICU admission. Primary outcome was the 7-day difference of right rectus femoris muscle cross-sectional area (RRMCSA). Secondary outcomes were the 7-day difference …

Impact Of Digital Leadership And Organizational Intelligence On Digital Organizational Transformation: An Empirical Study, İzzet Dedeoğlu, Murat Ak, Filiz Demir, H.Tezcan Uysal

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia

Technological and digital developments in the current information age have brought profound transformations to organizations, especially business operations and structures. Digital organizational transformation may be more effectively managed through the combined influence of digital leadership and organizational intelligence. This study examines the impact of digital leadership and organizational intelligence on the digital organizational transformation process, addressing a clear gap in the existing literature, as few studies have empirically investigated these factors together. Data were collected via an online survey from 104 employees of a packaging company in Konya, Türkiye, using a convenience sampling method. The study was designed as an …

Toward Contextual Adaptation And Knowledge Grounding In Large Language Models, Yufei Tao May 2026

Toward Contextual Adaptation And Knowledge Grounding In Large Language Models, Yufei Tao

Dissertations and Theses

Large language models (LLMs) are now expected to adapt to context in ways that are both socially appropriate and informationally faithful. This dissertation argues that contextual adaptation and contextual grounding are the unifying problems behind that expectation: models must adjust to interactional settings such as role-play while also grounding their outputs in the information supplied at inference time. Across four studies, the dissertation examines how LLMs respond to social cues, how they balance contextual and parametric knowledge, how multilingual long-context settings reveal grounding failures, and how decode-time control can improve reliability.

The first study analyzes the ChatGPT Role-play Dataset (CRD) …

¡Estamos Aqui!: The Underrepresentation Of Latinos In Professional Sports And Sports Media, Antonio Hernandez May 2026

¡Estamos Aqui!: The Underrepresentation Of Latinos In Professional Sports And Sports Media, Antonio Hernandez

University Honors Theses

The Latino population has had a long and complicated history within the United States. Since the turn of the 21st century, Latinos continue to become the largest minority group within the country. As the Latino population continues to rise, other industries have failed to properly represent the community. Within the world of professional sports, Latinos continue to be grossly underrepresented, with professional athletes from Latino backgrounds representing less than 6% of all professional athletes across all disciplines. This number is just under ¼ of the total percentage of Latinos within the United States. With Latino's influence of other cultural phenomena …

Tuning The Neighborhood: Purifying People, Places, And Environments In Suburban Kolkata, Sourav Saha May 2026

Tuning The Neighborhood: Purifying People, Places, And Environments In Suburban Kolkata, Sourav Saha

Yale Journal of Music & Religion

In modern science, disciplines such as physics, mechanical and civil engineering, seismology, and acoustics have conceptualized vibration as a quantifiable mechanical phenomenon, measured through the metrics of frequency, amplitude, and resonance. In contrast, scholarship in anthropology, musicology, and sound studies has approached vibration as a socio-historical, cultural, and political phenomenon. This article examines how vibration (spandan) operates as a metaphysical, sensory, and ethico-affective force that mediates relations among people, places, and environments. Focusing on the practice of satsang adhibesan (devotional congregation), the article demonstrates how members of the Deoghar-Satsang community participate in sonic rituals of prayer, silent chanting, meditation, sacred …

The Autonomy Plan In Morocco: Legal Foundations, Political Dimensions And Prospects For Resolving The Sahara Conflict, Limam Boussif, Jalila Ait Soudane

Journal of Maya Heritage

Summary: The territorial conflict over the Sahara is one of the most enduring territorial disputes in international relations, involving issues of sovereignty, self-determination, and regional stability. In this context, Morocco’s 2007 Autonomy Plan is presented as a negotiated framework of self-government under Moroccan sovereignty.

This article analyzes the evolution and consolidation of the Autonomy Plan using a conceptual approach based on self-determination, territorial governance, and conflict resolution theories. It shows that the initiative has progressively evolved from a national proposal into an internationally recognized framework, particularly through growing diplomatic support and developments within the United Nations Security Council, including Resolution …

Expanding Resident Knowledge And Self-Efficacy In Addressing Medical Mistrust, Tyandra Moore, Frances Turcotte Benedict, Emily Killough, Dominique N. Lewis, Leah N. Jones May 2026

Expanding Resident Knowledge And Self-Efficacy In Addressing Medical Mistrust, Tyandra Moore, Frances Turcotte Benedict, Emily Killough, Dominique N. Lewis, Leah N. Jones

Research Showcase

Background: Medical mistrust—rooted in historical and contemporary inequities—remains a critical barrier to optimal healthcare access across all communities. Despite its significant impact on patient engagement and health outcomes, graduate medical education (GME) programs rarely provide structured training on medical mistrust and its effects on patients, families, and medical providers. Understanding how educational interventions influence resident physicians' knowledge and confidence in addressing medical mistrust is essential for developing effective, evidence-based curricula that prepare physicians to deliver equitable, patient-centered care.

Objectives/Goal: To evaluate pediatric residents' knowledge of medical mistrust and self-efficacy in addressing it before and after participating in a case-based educational …

Adapting And Promoting Tourism For Children In Venice And The Lagoon Islands: A Comparative Analysis Of Food-Related Discourse Strategies In English And In Italian, Daniela Cesiri Prof. May 2026

Adapting And Promoting Tourism For Children In Venice And The Lagoon Islands: A Comparative Analysis Of Food-Related Discourse Strategies In English And In Italian, Daniela Cesiri Prof.

International Journal of Islands Research

According to the latest available version of the Annual Tourism Survey drafted by the City of Venice, in 2023, 12,628,079 tourists visited Venice and the Lagoon Islands (Bettiol & Marini, 2025). This survey does not provide data on the age groups of these visitors, but they are available in the previous version of the same Survey (Bianchetto & Marini, 2022), which reports that 29% of tourists were in the 46-71 age group. Therefore, we can presume that, excluding the older age groups, quite a large proportion of visitors is likely composed of young tourists and families with children. This study …

How Licensing Compromised The Library, Aaron Perzanowski May 2026

How Licensing Compromised The Library, Aaron Perzanowski

Seattle University Law Review Online

Public libraries are besieged on multiple fronts: spiraling costs, budget cuts, book bans, patron privacy risks, inaccessible digital exclusives, embargoed titles, and unstable collections—not the mention a general decline in reading coupled with an upswing in reliance on artificial intelligence. No single development can explain all of the many challenges facing libraries today. But this Article argues that the shift from library-owned print collections to licensed digital ones is an overlooked throughline that has contributed to this constellation of challenges in underappreciated ways. For centuries, the first sale doctrine gave libraries broad autonomy over what they acquired, preserved, and lent. …

The Library Of Congress’S Essential Role In Digital Preservation: Reconceiving Mandatory Deposit After Valancourt, Dave Hansen May 2026

The Library Of Congress’S Essential Role In Digital Preservation: Reconceiving Mandatory Deposit After Valancourt, Dave Hansen

Seattle University Law Review Online

As the published record shifts to digital formats, the mechanisms that have ensured long-term preservation are breaking down. Most libraries acquire digital materials through licensing agreements that prohibit preservation copying, format migration, and interlibrary loan—contractually overriding the exceptions Congress enacted in the Copyright Act. The Library of Congress occupies a unique position: Through statutory deposit under 17 U.S.C. §§ 407 and 408, it collects copyrighted works pursuant to federal law rather than license agreements, and deposited copies become federal property under § 704, free from contractual restrictions. This Article examines how the Library’s deposit authority can be strengthened after the …

Why The Library Of Congress Matters More Than Ever, Hope O'Keeffe May 2026

Why The Library Of Congress Matters More Than Ever, Hope O'Keeffe

Seattle University Law Review Online

In a symposium examining the broader importance of libraries, this Article makes the case for why the Library of Congress (LOC) is itself essential. Because the LOC’s broad range of programs is little known, this Article first summarizes the collections and components of the LOC and the ways it provides key resources to the American people and library communities. It then focuses on LOC programs that best illustrate the TILE Institute’s[1] technology, innovation, and ethics principles and concludes with a discussion of the importance of maintaining not just a national library, but a nonpartisan, politically independent Library of Congress. …
