The Child Figure In Climate Fiction: Redefining Community And Culture In The Face Of Climate Change, Allison Wasley Jun 2026

The Child Figure In Climate Fiction: Redefining Community And Culture In The Face Of Climate Change, Allison Wasley

SUURJ: Seattle University Undergraduate Research Journal

While climate change has been a known phenomenon for decades, social and cultural factors have stagnated our collective ability not only to discuss ongoing climate disasters, but also to conceptualize the disintegration of the very relationship between humanity and the natural world. This essay builds upon existing research and theory, proposing that climate fiction could serve as an antidote to our “cultural derangement,” which simultaneously destroys the relationship between humanity and nature, and our relationship with one another. This essay analyzes several examples of climate fiction that leverage the figure of the child as a symbol of hope and a …

Imaginary Companions Across Contexts: Developmental Adaptation Or Clinical Concern?, Kaeli M. Chop Jun 2026

Imaginary Companions Across Contexts: Developmental Adaptation Or Clinical Concern?, Kaeli M. Chop

SUURJ: Seattle University Undergraduate Research Journal

This literary review examines the developmental, clinical, and cultural dimensions of imaginary companions (ICs) to understand how they function across different contexts. By bringing together findings from developmental psychology and cross-cultural research, it considers how ICs shape emotional growth across the lifespan. In early childhood, ICs often reflect a child’s creative engagement with emotion, imagination, and early social growth. They provide a safe space for children to express their feelings, explore relationships, and develop emotional understanding. ICs can often serve more complex roles in response to trauma, shifting from playful imagination to coping mechanisms that offer comfort or protection when …

Creating Accessible And Equitable Mental Health Treatments: The Usefulness Of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy In Treating Racial Trauma, Aicha J. Toure Jun 2026

Creating Accessible And Equitable Mental Health Treatments: The Usefulness Of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy In Treating Racial Trauma, Aicha J. Toure

SUURJ: Seattle University Undergraduate Research Journal

Psychedelic-assisted therapy is a recently developed method for treating mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Research into the effectiveness of psychedelics in treating mental health has largely excluded Black Peoples, Indigenous Peoples, and People(s) of Color (BIPOC); this is problematic, as rates of these mental health disorders are proportionally higher in BIPOC individuals than in white individuals. Mental health issues experienced by BIPOC are, more often than not, rooted in experiences of racial discrimination (Schouler-Ocak et al., 2021). Experiences of racial discrimination can develop into racial trauma, manifesting as depression, anxiety, and/or PTSD. This literature …

An Exploratory Study: The Presence Of Imposter Syndrome In New Graduate Allied Health Professionals And Its Relationship To Location Of Practice, Samantha J. Barber, Carol A. Flavell Dr, Moira Smith Dr

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Imposter syndrome (IS) explores the feelings of fraudulence within personal and professional settings. Commonly IS results in impaired self-confidence, and self-perceptions of one’s own abilities, their mental health, and places them at a higher risk of burnout. Imposterism is linked to transitionary periods, such as being newly graduated, and while IS addressed amongst the medical community [doctors and nurses], there is a gap in literature relating to IS amongst allied health professionals (AHPs). Additionally, there is no known literature in which IS presence or severity is explored in relation to an individual’s geographic location. The aim of this study …

An Asexual Autist’S Feminist Musings On The Lord Of The Rings, Robin A. Reid Jun 2026

An Asexual Autist’S Feminist Musings On The Lord Of The Rings, Robin A. Reid

Journal of Tolkien Research

Abstract: This reader response is about how a seventy-year-old asexual autist began to discover her feminist queer politics by reading Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings at the age of ten. Countering the negative stereotype of feminists (and/or women) disliking Tolkien, Reid describes how her autistic obsession with Tolkien’s world and her love for Éowyn led her first into online Tolkien fandom and then into aca-fandom. She chronicles a journey from feeling isolated and weird in her childhood and adolescence (in small-town Idaho during the 1960s) to finding communities in which her weirdnesses (autism, asexuality, and feminism) were not only …

Decoding Stock Market Movements: The Role Of Unemployment And Volatility, Bipllab Roy, Suparna Bhattacharjee Jun 2026

Decoding Stock Market Movements: The Role Of Unemployment And Volatility, Bipllab Roy, Suparna Bhattacharjee

Northeast Journal of Complex Systems (NEJCS)

This study investigates how unemployment and market volatility interact with stock prices in the Indian context, framing the stock–labour–volatility nexus as a complex adaptive system (CAS) rather than a set of linear, time-invariant relationships. Using verified secondary data on unemployment, India VIX, and NSE stock indices for 2013–2023, we first apply simple and multiple regression as a descriptive baseline. Results show a strong negative association between unemployment and stock prices (R ≈ 0.824, R² ≈ 0.68, p < 0.05), consistent with Keynesian demand-side channels, while the linear VIX–stock relationship is weak and statistically insignificant (R² ≈ 0.07, p > 0.05), consistent with the expectation that volatility operates through non-linear, regime-dependent mechanisms not captured by OLS.

Importantly, we document and transparently disclose critical …

Road Notes: "An Aesthetic Of Existence", Mustapha Charfaoui Jun 2026

Road Notes: "An Aesthetic Of Existence", Mustapha Charfaoui

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

Travel as an act of displacement is a human activity that borders on need. This cultural constant forms the backdrop of works from antiquity, through the journey of Ulysses, the journeys of knights, explorers, missionaries, romantics, etc. For the human soul, travel is an irrevocable necessity as it is a meritorious source of learning as H. Miller asserts: “A destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things”. This is what we see again in the journey undertaken by Isabelle Eberhardt that we will discover through her work Notes de route: Maroc, Algérie, Tunisie, a kind of …

Catherine De Bourboulon's Diary In China (1858-1862) Fracture Between East And West, Qingya Meng Jun 2026

Catherine De Bourboulon's Diary In China (1858-1862) Fracture Between East And West, Qingya Meng

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

This article is dedicated to the journey of Catherine de Bourboulon (1827-1865) with her husband, a French diplomat, through northern China, Mongolia, and Russia, during which she wrote a journal that was published upon her return to France in 1866. This journal reflects both her compassion for the Chinese and Mongols living in miserable conditions and her admiration for the landscape of the Gobi Desert. However, her perspective also establishes a hierarchical relationship with the Other. In this regard, our approach aims to show how the concept of civilization justifies Catherine de Bourboulon’s stance, convinced of the superiority of Europeans …

The Harem In Orientalist Art And Literature Between Fantasy And Authenticity, Fatima Zahra Ajjoul Jun 2026

The Harem In Orientalist Art And Literature Between Fantasy And Authenticity, Fatima Zahra Ajjoul

SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism

European travel to the Orient dates back to thousands of years, but fascination with the region flourished by the nineteenth century, the century of "harem literature" and Orientalist art par excellence. A number of developments made the trip to the Orient easier, safer and cheaper at the time. However, harem doors remained closed to male travellers who were left to imagine their own desirable details that mostly projected fantasies of exoticism, eroticism and despotism. Women travellers, on the other hand, took advantage of their gender-privileged access to the Oriental women's segregated spaces to shed light upon several obscured aspects of …

A method for dynamically adjusting an agent's credit limit based on network latency jitter metrics includes collecting a plurality of latency measurements corresponding to acknowledgment messages transmitted by an agent over a network within a defined time window, computing a coefficient of variation based on the plurality of latency measurements where the coefficient of variation represents variability in latency, determining a jitter risk score based on the computed coefficient of variation and a predefined stability threshold where the jitter risk score is bounded within a normalized range, calculating a credit decay factor as an exponential function of the jitter risk …

Vectorized Pipeline For Real‑Time Lock‑In Amplification On Microcontrollers, Gary Cheng Jun 2026

Vectorized Pipeline For Real‑Time Lock‑In Amplification On Microcontrollers, Gary Cheng

Defensive Publications Series

Lock‑in amplification involves extracting weak signals from background noise, a process that traditionally utilizes computationally intensive floating‑point operations. Performing these operations on standard microcontrollers frequently causes central processing unit (CPU) saturation. The disclosed system provides a vectorized data pipeline that structures digital signal processing tasks to natively utilize internal hardware multiply‑accumulate instructions within a microcontroller. To bypass runtime floating‑point trigonometry, a pre‑computed integer look‑up table and a phase accumulator generate reference waveforms. Further, a scaling recovery algorithm mathematically restores absolute physical units following high‑speed hardware vector bit‑shifts. Consequently, the disclosed system facilitates real‑time, phase‑sensitive signal extraction on resource‑constrained microcontrollers, decreasing …

Predictive Workload Modeling And Voltage Scaling Using Event‑Driven Workload Queue Telemetry, Girish Vv Jun 2026

Predictive Workload Modeling And Voltage Scaling Using Event‑Driven Workload Queue Telemetry, Girish Vv

Defensive Publications Series

Conventional power management methods for processors may be reactive, adjusting frequency only after a computing device exceeds utilization thresholds. This reactive lag may result in increased latency for sudden workload bursts and allow low‑priority background tasks to trigger voltage increases. This publication describes a predictive frequency scaling method based on real‑time introspection of operating system workqueues. Implementing the method, a computing device may extract internal statistics (e.g., queue depth, task wait times) through event‑driven kernel tracepoints. The computing device can identify task priorities by resolving function pointers and incorporating application‑level telemetry. The computing device then generates a predictive workload index …
