The Feasibility Of A Single Educational Intervention To Improve Caregiver Confidence In Stroke Rehabilitation, Angelica Fedorchak, Jennifer E. Lape Jun 2026

The Feasibility Of A Single Educational Intervention To Improve Caregiver Confidence In Stroke Rehabilitation, Angelica Fedorchak, Jennifer E. Lape

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Caregivers play a critical role in providing support to stroke survivors during recovery, but they often face emotional, physical, and educational challenges that can lead to caregiver burden and burnout. Despite the significant impact education can have on caregivers, rehabilitation professionals in inpatient rehabilitation settings often struggle to provide comprehensive training due to time constraints and strict productivity standards. This feasibility study aimed to evaluate whether an individualized one-time caregiver education session, integrated into the discharge planning process, could enhance caregiver confidence and whether the necessary education could be practically integrated into the existing staffing, reimbursement, and organizational structure …

Rendering Live Data In Pre-Recorded Video Using Dynamic 3d Topology Extraction, Nikita Agarwal Jun 2026

Rendering Live Data In Pre-Recorded Video Using Dynamic 3d Topology Extraction, Nikita Agarwal

Defensive Publications Series

This technology creates a way to show live, real-time information—such as current traffic or crowd sizes—directly inside a video that was recorded in the past.

The system works by following these steps:

  • It analyzes a regular video to figure out the 3D shape of the environment.
  • At the same time, it finds live data for the specific location shown in that video.
  • It turns that live data into 3D images and places them into the video so they stay in the right spot, even if the camera moves.
  • It uses depth sensing to make sure the live data is hidden …

Probabilistic Relevance Scoring Of Collaborative Action Items Using Multi-Factor Conversational Context, Room-Type-Aware Baseline Adjustment, And Transparent Reasoning, Ed Balow, Hieu Ergin, Dennis Lanov, Ray Schenkel

Defensive Publications Series

Proposed herein is an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered system that can automatically calculate personal relevance scores for action items using an inverse diffusion algorithm that scores tasks contrastively. The algorithm may compute how well each action item matches a contextual profile of an authenticated user, such as a profile built from conversation history, completed tasks, role, department, technical expertise, or combinations thereof, relative to how well the action item matches contextual profiles of other participants, with weighting based on participant similarity through diffusion. By constructing contextual profiles for participants using internal conversation signals, external enterprise data, or both, and by applying …

Proactive Source-Weighted Routing For Stable Peer-To-Peer Mesh Networks With Predictive Handoff, Raghav Gupta Jun 2026

Proactive Source-Weighted Routing For Stable Peer-To-Peer Mesh Networks With Predictive Handoff, Raghav Gupta

Defensive Publications Series

A system performs proactive routing for shared internet access in peer-to-peer (P2P) mesh networks. The system continuously monitors communication link quality by analyzing signal strength and its rate of change to compute a predictive link reliability score. When this score indicates an active link is degrading, the system proactively establishes a parallel connection to a new neighbor in the background before the original link fails. This process facilitates a handoff that avoids the latency associated with reactive route discovery. The system also uses a source-weighted path selection algorithm to evaluate multi-hop routes, calculating a path score that gives greater weight …

The Dual-Agent Architecture For Real-Time Correction Of Computational Model Outputs, Heena Piratiyath, Tanmay Kayande Jun 2026

The Dual-Agent Architecture For Real-Time Correction Of Computational Model Outputs, Heena Piratiyath, Tanmay Kayande

Defensive Publications Series

The abstract describes a system designed to ensure AI models make fair and ethical decisions in real-time. This system uses two separate AI "agents" working together:

  • The Proposer: The first agent suggests a specific action or decision.
  • The Checker: The second agent (an "agentic ethicist") reviews that suggestion to make sure it follows set rules for fairness and legality.

If the suggestion is found to be unfair or biased, a "safety layer" immediately changes it to a better, more compliant alternative before the decision is finalized. This method aims to catch and fix biased AI recommendations while they are being …

Generative Ai Synthesis Of Automated Interactions Into A Structured Agent Briefing, Deep Raithatha, Tanmay Kayande Jun 2026

Generative Ai Synthesis Of Automated Interactions Into A Structured Agent Briefing, Deep Raithatha, Tanmay Kayande

Defensive Publications Series

Systems for escalating interactions from automated agents to human agents can create inefficiencies, for example, by transferring unstructured transcripts. An intermediary system can employ a generative artificial intelligence synthesis engine to process the context of an automated interaction upon an escalation trigger. The engine may analyze the dialogue transcript, user metadata, and the automated agent's internal state to perform semantic abstraction, diagnose potential failure points, and infer a possible resolution. The system can then generate a structured briefing for the human agent, which could include a concise summary, a failure diagnosis, or a recommended next action presented as an interactive …

Deterministic Personal Phase Computation From Birth Ephemeris Data For Social Resonance Matching, Frédéric Renault Jun 2026

Deterministic Personal Phase Computation From Birth Ephemeris Data For Social Resonance Matching, Frédéric Renault

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a method for computing a deterministic personal phase value φ_i from birth data (date, time, geographic coordinates) without storing biometric information centrally.

Formula: φ_i = fmod(T_birth_UTC, T_year) / T_year × 2π + (lon_birth / 360) × T_day + Δφ_pentagon

Where T_year = 365.25636 × 86400 s (sidereal year), T_day = 86400 s, and Δφ_pentagon is an offset derived from the nearest pentagonal node of a Goldberg polyhedron GP(n,m) tessellation of the Earth (12 nodes at icosahedral symmetry axes).

A pairwise resonance metric k = 1 / (1 + |sin(φ_i − φ_j)|) measures harmonic alignment between two individuals, …

Mimic: A Multimodal Dataset For Affective Incongruity In Video, Ethan M. Baird Jun 2026

Mimic: A Multimodal Dataset For Affective Incongruity In Video, Ethan M. Baird

Computer Science Senior Theses

This thesis investigates the computational challenges of constructing a database for affective incongruity, exploring the difficulties in automating the collection of contradictory affective states. Capturing these incongruities is essential for advancing Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and sentiment analysis, which struggle to interpret signals deviating from basic emotional archetypes. Curating non-congruent affect provides the data necessary for models to navigate complex social contexts, which is critical for applications like automated Audio Description (AD) for the visually impaired and nuanced Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). To capture these signals, two distinct methodologies were employed. The first utilized a tripartite decomposition of video data, isolating textual, …

Disaster Justice: Queer And Disabled Mobilities And Infrastructures Of Care In The Pacific Northwest, Rachel Springer Jun 2026

Disaster Justice: Queer And Disabled Mobilities And Infrastructures Of Care In The Pacific Northwest, Rachel Springer

Dissertations and Theses

This dissertation examines the social, political, and environmental pressures that drive LGBTQ+ migration to the Pacific Northwest and the social infrastructures people find on arrival. Drawing on thirty-four semi-structured interviews with LGBTQ+ adults who relocated between 2022 and 2025, it argues that these movements are best understood as responses to slow-onset disasters produced by the compounding interaction of legislative targeting and infrastructural violence.

State-level legislation targeting LGBTQ+ people—particularly transgender individuals—has fractured the geography of safety in the U.S., producing a landscape where civil rights, healthcare access, and everyday security vary dramatically across space. For those navigating these conditions at the …

Bullying, Early Sexual Debut, And Sexual Health Behaviors Among Adolescents In New York City, Valentina I. Ramirez Jun 2026

Bullying, Early Sexual Debut, And Sexual Health Behaviors Among Adolescents In New York City, Valentina I. Ramirez

Dissertations and Theses

Adolescent sexual and reproductive health remains a critical public health priority in the United States, particularly given the persistent burden of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young people. Adolescents and young adults account for a disproportionate share of STI cases, reflecting ongoing gaps in prevention, early detection, treatment, and equitable access to sexual health care and services. These patterns are shaped not only by individual behaviors but also by broader social, structural, and developmental contexts that influence adolescents’ opportunities to engage in preventive sexual health care.

This dissertation examined associations between early sexual debut, experiences of bullying, and …

“I Was Well Informed. It Was A Great Advantage”: Pre-Arrival Information Seeking, Information Intelligence, And Immigrants’ Settlement, Nafiz Z. Shuva, Paulette Rothbauer

Publications and Research

This study reports on the role of pre-arrival information seeking and informed decision making in the settlement experiences of Bangladeshi immigrants in Canada. Despite the importance of immigrants in shaping Canada’s future in innovation, economy, and population, this research shows a significant mismatch between immigrants’ expectations and their actual settlement experiences, particularly in terms of their employment. This mismatch can lead to depression, frustration, and anxiety, affecting integration into Canadian society. While there has been a recent increase in immigrants’ settlement information behavior research in LIS, most focus on post-arrival information needs and seeking. Research findings of this study contribute …
