Education And Tolerance Of Homosexuality In Diverse Islamic Contexts, Camila Swift

Dissertations and Theses

This study examines the relationship between educational attainment and moral tolerance of homosexuality among Muslims in Algeria, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey. Utilizing human development theory to understand how educational attainment affects social values, the analysis draws on data from over 5,000 respondents from the Pew Research Center's "World's Muslims" dataset, which includes responses from a nationally representative sample of Muslims in these four countries. Logistic regression models and predicted probabilities are used to explore how educational attainment relates to moral tolerance of homosexuality, adjusting estimates for various alternate explanations through the use of control variables. The findings reveal that the …

Proceedings Of The 2022 “Lifestyle Intervention For Epilepsy (Life)” Symposium Hosted By Cleveland Clinic, Martha Sajatovic Oct 2024

Proceedings Of The 2022 “Lifestyle Intervention For Epilepsy (Life)” Symposium Hosted By Cleveland Clinic, Martha Sajatovic

Faculty Scholarship

Lifestyle interventions are strategies used to self-manage medical conditions, such as epilepsy, and often complement traditional pharmacologic and surgical therapies. The need for integrating evidence-based lifestyle interventions into mainstream medicine for the treatment of epilepsy is evident given that despite the availability of a multitude of treatments with medications and surgical techniques, a significant proportion of patients have refractory seizures, and even those who are seizure-free report significant adverse effects with current treatments. Although the evidence base for complementary medicine is less robust than it is for traditional forms of medicine, the evidence to date suggests that several forms of …

Using Bloom's Taxonomy To Visualize Antiracist Teaching Strategies., Lucian Rothe, Cara K. Snyder Oct 2024

Using Bloom's Taxonomy To Visualize Antiracist Teaching Strategies., Lucian Rothe, Cara K. Snyder

Faculty and Staff Scholarship

2020 marked a surge in the uprisings for racial and social justice in the United States and around the globe. Universities met the moment with aspirations to become antiracist institutions. However, there has often been a disconnect between universities’ antiracist goals and support for educators in their day-to-day instruction. Moreover, many educators – primarily those racialized as White, who have seldom had to consider their racial identity in predominantly White environments – are unfamiliar with antiracist teaching strategies. This essay is for university instructors who are new to antiracist pedagogy but want to use its principles to transform their teaching. …

Relationship Between Technology Adoption And Event Sponsorship In Technology-Adopted Events, Sidner Bosibori Nyaboga

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Technology advancement and adoption can affect organizations and industries in different dimensions and spectrums. Technology acceptance is evident through innovative solutions in the events industry, such as virtual and hybrid event delivery modes. However, technology shifts could adversely affect the outcomes of event sponsorships. The problem was the lack of understanding of technology adoption effects on events sponsorships, limiting events professionals in developing effective techniques. This quantitative nonexperimental correlational study involved adopting the technology acceptance model (TAM) to examine the correlation between the predictor variables perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEU), and behavior intention (BI) and the outcome …

Possibility Of Applying Methods Of Analysis And Synthesis Of Linear Electrical Circuits To Some Nonlinear Circuits, Qudrat Gayratovich Abidov, Anvar Ismatullaevich Rahmatullaev, Mexrnoz Odiljonovna Gafurova

Technical science and innovation

This article discusses the possibility of applying the analysis and calculation methods used in linear electric circuits to certain nonlinear circuits. It is shown that if we abandon the quantitative criteria for the analysis and synthesis of nonlinear circuits using linear principles, some problems in nonlinear electrical engineering can be correctly solved based on linear theory. As an example, the simplest ferroresonant voltage stabilizer is considered, using the method of superposition and the equivalence of ferroresonant circuits in series and parallel connections. The electrical diagram is shown, and a formula for the stabilization coefficient is derived, representing a complex nonlinear …

Propagation Of Stress Shock Waves In Elastoplastic Continuous Media With Spherical Symmetry, Abdimital Nabiyevich Nabiyev, Abdumalik Abdumurodovich Nabiyev

Technical science and innovation

The article examines the motion caused by the explosion of a spherical charge in elastoplastic continuous media. When a charge explodes, it is assumed that the charge instantly turns into a high-pressure gas without changing its volume, and this gas spreads into the environment, forming a shock wave with spherical symmetry. Taking into account the presence of tangential stresses in inclined areas, equations of one-dimensional dynamic motion of soil are derived, according to which the patterns of propagation of shock waves in soil massifs during an explosion with spherical symmetry are studied. To find the limiting state of the soil, …

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer mortality, despite declining smoking rates. Previous lung cancer GWAS have identified numerous loci, but separating the genetic risks of lung cancer and smoking behavioral susceptibility remains challenging. Here, we perform multi-ancestry GWAS meta-analyses of lung cancer using the Million Veteran Program cohort (approximately 95% male cases) and a previous study of European-ancestry individuals, jointly comprising 42,102 cases and 181,270 controls, followed by replication in an independent cohort of 19,404 cases and 17,378 controls. We then carry out conditional meta-analyses on cigarettes per day and identify two novel, replicated loci, including the 19p13.11 …

Distinct Visual Processing Networks For Foveal And Peripheral Visual Fields, Jie Zhang, Huihui Zhou, Shuo Wang

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Foveal and peripheral vision are two distinct modes of visual processing essential for navigating the world. However, it remains unclear if they engage different neural mechanisms and circuits within the visual attentional system. Here, we trained macaques to perform a free-gaze visual search task using natural face and object stimuli and recorded a large number of 14588 visually responsive units from a broadly distributed network of brain regions involved in visual attentional processing. Foveal and peripheral units had substantially different proportions across brain regions and exhibited systematic differences in encoding visual information and visual attention. The spike-local field potential (LFP) …
