Incorporating Transparency Into An Online Respiratory Care Curriculum, Kristen Mchenry, Adrian Hoyal

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: The Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) framework has been shown to impact student academic success, improve retention rates, and increase reported course satisfaction. This instructional strategy has demonstrated effectiveness in traditional, online, and underrepresented student groups. This project aimed to revise one elective 7-week course in an online undergraduate degree advancement (DA) program in Respiratory Care to incorporate the TILT infrastructure and assess retention and satisfaction pre and post-implementation. Methods: The methodology can be characterized as evaluative, non-experimental research. An objectives-oriented approach was used to retrospectively evaluate the pedagogical change (TILT) and its degree of instructional impact on …

Clinical Instructor And Student Reports Of Affective Behavior Issues During A Clinical Experience, Bruce N. Elliott, Jon J. Rizzo

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: Clinical Instructors (CIs) have optimal opportunity to support non-cognitive attributes while observing and assessing student interactions with staff and patients because of the time spent with their students. There is a dearth of literature related to how items in the professional practice section of the Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI) are truly addressed during a clinical affiliation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to record the occasions when lapses occur with respect to a student’s accountability, communication, or professional behavior, as well as assessing student and CI interpretations of how these instances were addressed, and subsequently corrected within …

Performance Optimization By Dual Bt Signal Directivity Enhancement, Hp Inc Oct 2024

Performance Optimization By Dual Bt Signal Directivity Enhancement, Hp Inc

Multiple antenna WiFi can achieve beamforming because the WiFi standard supports MU-MIMO technology, allowing WiFi devices to simultaneously send different data streams to multiple users. By adjusting the phase and amplitude of multiple antennas based on the CSI mechanism and matrix calculation, WiFi devices can form a main beam, concentrating the signal in a specific direction, thereby improving communication efficiency and stability.

The Bluetooth standard currently does not support the mechanisms necessary for beamforming, such as MU-MIMO. Even the Bluetooth device has multiple antennas, Bluetooth device still cannot utilize them for beamforming.

  • Bluetooth communication is designed more for low power …

The Geopolitical Configuration Of Okinawa In Post-War Japan: Focusing On Tatsuhiro Ōshiro’S The Cocktail Party, Yeonhee Woo Oct 2024

The Geopolitical Configuration Of Okinawa In Post-War Japan: Focusing On Tatsuhiro Ōshiro’S The Cocktail Party, Yeonhee Woo

Kritika Kultura

Okinawa, located at the southernmost tip of Japan, has greater proximity to Taiwan than its home country, Japan, as well as a unique historical character. After being forcibly incorporated into Japan in 1879, the island was devastated by the Battle of Okinawa which was waged against Japan by the United States in 1945. After Japan was defeated in the Pacific War, Okinawa was separated from the mainland and held under the occupation of the US military. In particular, the 1960s was a time when the “return to the mainland” movement, which advocated a return to Japan after escaping from the …

A Phenomenological Study Of Islandness As A Global Sense Of Place: Focusing On The Animated Film Moana, Taehee Kim Oct 2024

A Phenomenological Study Of Islandness As A Global Sense Of Place: Focusing On The Animated Film Moana, Taehee Kim

Kritika Kultura

This article explores the question of whether islandness exists, and if so, how it can be defined. Using phenomenological methods, it examines a cultural text relevant to this question: the animated film Moana, which tells a story set on a small island. Following phenomenological procedures, any unexamined preconceptions about islandness are methodologically excluded through the suspension of judgment (epoché); islandness is defined as the “sense of place of the island” through a return to intersubjective intentionality (phenomenological reduction); the “essence” of this sense of place of the island is identified through imaginative variation (eidetic reduction). This discourse will shed light …

Youtube Digital Storytelling Of Korean Uninhabited Islands, Jooyoung Kim Oct 2024

Youtube Digital Storytelling Of Korean Uninhabited Islands, Jooyoung Kim

Kritika Kultura

South Korea, with its extensive coastline and numerous islands, such as Jejudo, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo, is home to several uninhabited islands. These uninhabited islands embody dual roles as nostalgic symbols and territorial entities while also enduring marginalization and distortion stemming from their inhospitable conditions. Nonetheless, the emergence of recent trends in YouTube digital storytelling within South Korea has propelled uninhabited islands into the spotlight, as a result of which these islands have received considerable attention. By examining the creation and reception of YouTube narratives, we can gain valuable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of digital culture and its broader implications …

The Importance Of Bearing Witness In Edwin Cameron’S Witness To Aids (2005), Oscar Ortega Montero Oct 2024

The Importance Of Bearing Witness In Edwin Cameron’S Witness To Aids (2005), Oscar Ortega Montero

Kritika Kultura

Edwin Cameron’s memoir Witness to AIDS (2005) was the first HIV/AIDS memoir published in South Africa in the midst of the worst years of the epidemic. The narrative discloses essential facts about his experience living with the virus. In this paper, I argue that Edwin Cameron’s intellectually savvy and powerful testimony opened up a widespread national debate on citizen participation in policy-decision making and public accountability in South Africa. My analysis revolves on the interplay between whiteness, privilege, and access to life-saving drugs in the on-going construction of democratic and transparent post-Apartheid South Africa. Edwin Cameron’s position of privilege as …

Photographic Power: Scenes From The United States And The Philippines, Vicente L. Rafael Oct 2024

Photographic Power: Scenes From The United States And The Philippines, Vicente L. Rafael

Kritika Kultura

This essay takes its inspiration from a series of addresses given by the former slave and radical abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Douglass hailed the promise of photography to bring forth democratic modes of representation. He saw in photography the power to bring distances up close and level social hierarchies by revealing the common humanity of those below with those above. Douglass, however, hedged his optimistic view. He saw that the “vast power” of photography also came with great danger. It can reveal truth but it can also foster error depending on “the master we obey.” It is this double-edged power of …

Green Buddhism And W. S. Merwin’S Eco-Poetry, Jiyong Geng, Jie Zhang Oct 2024

Green Buddhism And W. S. Merwin’S Eco-Poetry, Jiyong Geng, Jie Zhang

Kritika Kultura

This article explores the profound influence of Buddhist environmental thought on the poetry of W.S. Merwin. It discusses how Merwin integrates Buddhist philosophies such as interdependent arising (pratītya-samutpāda), emptiness (śūnyatā), non-self (anātman), compassion (karunā), and the concept of Buddha nature into his poetic work, highlighting themes such as ecological interconnectedness, the rejection of anthropocentrism, and the intrinsic value of nature. The article examines how Merwin’s use of these themes not only enriches his poetic expression but also contributes to the broader discourse on green Buddhism, bridging the gap between human experience and ecological consciousness.

Elementary Administrators’ Perceptions Regarding Student Discipline, Deirdre Shantay Keys-Brownlee Oct 2024

Elementary Administrators’ Perceptions Regarding Student Discipline, Deirdre Shantay Keys-Brownlee

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There are high rates of disciplinary issues present in urban elementary schools in the United States, and school administrators need more effective strategies for improvement. Researchers have found that exclusionary discipline practices like suspensions and expulsions are often overused, have questionable efficacy, and disproportionately affect minority students. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore elementary school administrators’ perceptions of successes and challenges related to reducing the number of student disciplinary issues. Elements from instructional leadership theory formed the conceptual framework. Data were collected via individual semi-structured interviews with 10 certified elementary administrators in the southern United States …
