Otologic Manifestations Of Temporomandibular Disorders, Fatemeh Ebrahimi, Ali Akbar, Vivian Jin, Vivian F Kaul, Craig B Pearl

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Background/Objectives: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) affects a third of the adult population and has been associated with otologic symptoms. These symptoms are frequently misattributed to primary otologic diseases, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment. This review aims to summarize the reported prevalence, proposed pathophysiologic mechanisms, and management strategies of otologic manifestations in patients with TMD.

Methods: A literature review was conducted using the MeSH terms "temporomandibular joint disease" and "otologic symptoms." Five additional searches were performed using "temporomandibular disease/dysfunction" combined with each of the five most common otologic symptoms. Meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, reviews, and systematic reviews were …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Introduction: Poststroke depression (PSD) affects approximately 33% of stroke survivors and is associated with worse outcomes, poor quality of life (QOL) and mortality. Despite its prevalence and consequences, there is no consensus on the most effective strategy for PSD prevention. Behavioural activation (BA) is an effective intervention for depression across diverse populations and is considered safer, better tolerated and a longer-lasting alternative to antidepressant medications. This study aims to test the effectiveness of a remotely delivered BA intervention to prevent PSD (Tele-BA-S).

Methods and analysis: We will conduct a randomised effectiveness trial of 350 low-income adults (≥ 55 years) within …

Non-Negotiable Responsibilities Of Librarians Despite The Presence Of Generative-Ai Powered Chatbots: An Overview, Emmanuel Chidiadi Onwubiko Jun 2026

Non-Negotiable Responsibilities Of Librarians Despite The Presence Of Generative-Ai Powered Chatbots: An Overview, Emmanuel Chidiadi Onwubiko

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The presence of AI-Chatbots as linguistic models of Generative AI is one that has sent cold in the spines of librarians for the fear of the unknown.  Against this backdrop, it is received with mixed feelings.  To some librarians, it poses threats to their traditional responsibilities hence the fear of losing their jobs.  This paper conceptualizes the place of generative-AI Chatbots in libraries and their limitations, identifying some non-negotiable responsibilities of librarians regardless of the emergence of AI-Chatbots as well as clearing some doubts as expressed by librarians by reconciling the impacts of Chatbot and how librarians can leverage the …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

University library portals have become important digital gateways for accessing academic information and services. This study examines the current status of library portals of the top 100 universities ranked under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in India. A structured evaluation framework was used to analyze the content and services available on these portals. The framework was developed through expert responses from library and information science professionals and validated using statistical methods. The analysis was conducted using a weighted checklist covering five major categories: general information, library collections, e-resources, library services, and social networking features. Data were collected through systematic …

Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Faculty Papers

PURPOSE: Adjuvant radiation therapy planning for mucosal head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is challenging due to postoperative anatomic changes, contributing to variability in clinical target volume (CTV) delineation and risk of geographic miss or unnecessary dose expansion. Patient-specific 3-dimensional (3D) specimen maps may offer a novel approach to improve the localization of high-risk margins and facilitate multidisciplinary communication.

METHODS AND MATERIALS: In this prospective, noninterventional feasibility study, 3D scanning and virtual pathologic mapping of surgical specimens were performed as part of routine pathologic processing. Annotated 3D maps were integrated into the radiation therapy planning workflow and reviewed by the …

School of Nursing and Midwifery

BACKGROUND: Intra-hospital transfers (IHT) of hospitalized children are unavoidable practices often performed with emergency patients and postoperative patients. Standardizing IHT processes to minimize adverse events might improve children's outcomes. We developed an evidence-based clinical practice IHT guideline for hospitalized children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation process and the effectiveness of the implementation of this guideline on patient outcomes, healthcare professionals' knowledge and behavior, and hospital organizational context.

METHODS: A type III hybrid effectiveness-implementation design was adopted, using a pre-post intervention trial (January-December 2024). Data of patient demographics, transport-related outcomes, and healthcare providers' knowledge and compliance …

College of Population Health Faculty Papers

OBJECTIVES: Vaccination is one of the most effective public health interventions. Large language models (LLMs) show great capability for providing health information. This study compared the performance of ChatGPT 3.5 (G3E), ChatGPT 4o in English (G4E), Claude 3.0 (CDE), Gemini 1.5 (GME), and ChatGPT 4o in Italian (G4I) in delivering information on vaccination and preventive medicine.

STUDY DESIGN: Mixed-method analysis evaluating large language models.

METHODS: Twenty-six expert-designed healthcare scenarios were used to evaluate each model through an adapted DISCERN-based instrument. Four experts independently rated outputs across six domains: Information Reliability, Information Quality, Medical Appropriateness, Impact on Vaccine Hesitancy, Potential for …

Best Practices For Interprofessional, Community-Based Interventions In Preventing Type 2 Diabetes Among Adults Aged 50 And Older, Julie Joseph Mrs Jun 2026

Best Practices For Interprofessional, Community-Based Interventions In Preventing Type 2 Diabetes Among Adults Aged 50 And Older, Julie Joseph Mrs

Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration

The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is rapidly increasing among adults aged 50 years and older in the United States, posing a significant public health challenge. In 2021, an estimated 38.4 million Americans had diabetes, with adults aged 50years and above constituting a disproportionately large segment of this population. Evidence suggests that community-based lifestyle and educational interventions are effective in reducing the risk of T2DM among older adults. These interventions particularly promote dietary modification, increased physical activity, and diabetes education. Integrating the expertise of nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, physicians, and other professionals through interprofessional collaboration strengthens diabetes prevention and …

Community Health Fair As Experiential Learning: Interprofessional Faculty And Student Perspectives, Sharon Stevenson, Martha Rojo, Jing Jin, Erickson Feliciano, Margaret Love, Scott Wright

Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration

Abstract

Background: Traditional, precepted clinical practice sites continue to decline. Community health fairs (CHFs), led by experienced interprofessional faculty, present a valuable opportunity. In addition, CHFs provide students with hands-on experience in real-world settings.

Aim: This study examined the perspectives and clinical experiences of interprofessional faculty and students participating in a CHF.

Methods: This study utilized qualitative and quantitative design. Fourteen participants (seven students, seven faculty) engaged in conversational interviews, and completed a faculty and student survey as well as a demographic survey. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the sample and survey responses, and thematic analysis was used to …
