Like Wringing Water From A Stone: Finding Common Ground In Transformative Agreement Negotiations, Maria Savova, Amy Pham, Jamie Hutchins

Library Staff Publications and Research

Transformative agreements (TAs) are now reaching their first decade as one of a range of models developed between publishers and library partners. Deployed at scale, they hold the potential to dramatically move research towards an open future. However, while there have been a number of early adopters and successful agreements, for those who are beginning to develop their first TAs, there are still a lot of open questions and challenges.

The unique circumstances of each party in a TA negotiation, including research profile, geographic location, and size, defines what is possible at an operational level between publishers and institutions. If …

In The Case Of Prince Ling Ching: Visualizing The Boxer Rebellion Through Puck Magazine, Mimi Yu Nov 2024

In The Case Of Prince Ling Ching: Visualizing The Boxer Rebellion Through Puck Magazine, Mimi Yu

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

Through the framework of orientalism, this paper examines the historicism behind satirical illustrations created by artists and editors in Puck Magazine which depict the Boxer Rebellion, spanning from 1899 to 1902. In doing so, I aim to explore the nuances in which mass-produced visual satire seeks to justify Western hegemony. Widely published and distributed in the United States, Puck was a satirical magazine from the late 19th and early 20th century, and one of the first satirical magazines to contain colored lithographic covers. Puck further contributed to discourse over the “Yellow Peril” by employing caricature art and passages of punchlines …

Understanding And Alleviating The Impact Of Convective Weather To Airfield Efficiency, Huang Feng Nov 2024

Understanding And Alleviating The Impact Of Convective Weather To Airfield Efficiency, Huang Feng

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Extensive research in predicting annual passenger throughput at airports has been conducted, aiming at providing decision support for airport construction, aircraft procurement, resource management, flight scheduling, etc. However, few studies have been conducted on how airport operational throughput is affected by convective weather in the vicinity of the airport and how to predict short-term airport operational throughput. Convective weather near the airport could make arrivals miss their positions in the arrival stream and reduce airfield efficiency in terms of utilizing runway capacities. This research leverages the learning-based method (MB-ResNet model) to predict airport hourly throughput. It uses the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta …

Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with lower antiretroviral (ART) drug exposure among persons with HIV (PWH) compared to PWH without DM. The association between DM and virologic control in PWH, however, remains unknown.

Methods: We included participants in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study/Women's Interagency HIV Study Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) who had initiated ART between 1999 and 2020 and had a suppressed HIV viral load (≤200 copies/ml) within 1 year of ART initiation. We compared the frequency of incident HIV viremia (HIV-1 RNA >200 copies/ml) between adult PWH with and without DM. Poisson regression was used to examine the …

Centralized Triage: Working Together To Improve Patient Safety, Quality And Satisfaction - A Focus On Improving Average Speed To Answer, Maria Larner, Tammy Palamitia, Nora Closser, Heather Waske

Nursing Research and EBP Day 2024

The speed in which triage calls are answered affects patient access to care. After addressing workflows and barriers through huddles and team meetings, this quality improvement project adjusted staff schedules, partnered with Access Coordinators, and utilized the Genesys team to streamline calls and monitor call volume, quality and safety.

Results from these initiatives substantially reduced the average speed to answer for both inbound and outbound queues. The team will continue to monitor the data and capture trends in volume to ensure we sustain the gains.

School of Earth, Environmental, & Marine Sciences Faculty Publications

Through the years, research has described the importance of community-based approaches in the management of coastal and marine ecosystems. Coastal and marine issues are multifaceted and require place-specific approaches developed in partnership with vulnerable communities who are impacted by environmental stressors. Place-based conservation, a management approach that focuses on unique, place-specific characteristics, and other similar methods. It considers the need to integrate human dimensions and location-centered approaches, which are often lacking in typical natural resource management. Meaningful engagement with underrepresented communities can holistically account for socioeconomic factors and cultural knowledge that inform best management practices. As the health of marine …

Impact Of The Energy Crisis On Indoor Temperatures And Thermal Comfort In Uk Houses During Winter 2023, Omar Al-Hafith, B. K. Satish, Pieter De Wilde

School of Art, Design and Architecture

Geopolitical, health and economic events have led to an accumulated surge in energy prices in the UK at the beginning of the 2020s. In response, studies and media reports show that households have had to reduce the running of their heating systems to cut their energy bills. However, there is limited research on the impact of this context on indoor thermal conditions and occupants’ ability to meet their thermal comfort needs. This study aimed to address this research gap. It employed the mixed-method research methodology and used nine homes in Plymouth as case studies. Undertaken research work involved monitoring indoor …

Nurse Leader Education Program On Bedside Shift Report, Sharon Rae Dudley

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The implementation and sustainability of evidence-based practices (EBP) in the nursing workflow are essential for the continual improvement of care. Though bedside shift report (BSR) was initially introduced in three hospitals in southeast Texas in 2019 and has been reimplemented three times since, BSR remains an inconsistent practice. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to provide interactive education for nurse leaders on the importance of BSR and the critical nature of their role in overseeing and sustaining this practice. The …
