The Off-Grid Revolution And The "Promise" Of Energy Equality Under The Paris Climate Change Agreement, Ilias Bantekas Nov 2024

The Off-Grid Revolution And The "Promise" Of Energy Equality Under The Paris Climate Change Agreement, Ilias Bantekas

Northwestern Journal of Human Rights

A key thesis of this article is that since renewable energy is quintessentially a public good both in constitutional and macroeconomic terms, its availability without restrictions to all people is a true manifestation of economic self-determination, ultimately entailing what this author calls “energy equality.” Although this equality is dictated by the nature of renewable energy as a public good, it risks being eroded by the rush to implement the Paris Agreement. This is certainly one of the shortcomings of the Paris Agreement. With nation states eager to meet their targets and energy concessionaires given unprecedented financial and other incentives, we …

Staff and Researcher Publications

The pandemic refocused interest on the burden of depression across the lifespan; the increased efforts to prevent and treat depression are now a priority of health care systems, insurers, patient advocates, digital therapeutic engineers, telemedicine platforms, and community health agencies. However, the challenges of treating depression to remission in adult patients who do not respond to first, second, or third levels of oral pharmacotherapy remain. The increased prevalence of these conditions is at odds with the shrinking psychiatric workforce. Since addressing difficult to treat depression is situated in a rapidly evolving treatment landscape, The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson …

Functional Analysis And Delineating Subtypes Of Restricted Repetitive Behavior In Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Riley Fergus Nov 2024

Functional Analysis And Delineating Subtypes Of Restricted Repetitive Behavior In Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder, Riley Fergus

Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences

To date, only one behavior analytic study has systematically examined the use of functional analysis to assess arranging and ordering, which is a form of higher-level repetitive behavior (Rodriguez et al., 2012). The authors found this response was automatically maintained and developed effective interventions that involved some form of prompting and response disruption. Hagopian et al. (2015) evaluated a model for subtyping and predicting effective treatments for automatically reinforced self-injurious behavior (SIB). The current study applied Hagopian’s subtyping analysis and treatment model (i.e., competing stimulus assessments) to higher level repetitive behavior (Hagopian et al. 2015, 2017). A variety of assessments, …

An Improved Conditional Integrator Sliding Mode Controller Based On Swarm Intelligence For A Magnetic Levitation System, Abdelkader Kerraci, Mohamed Fayçal Khelfi, Zoubir Ahmed-Foitih Nov 2024

An Improved Conditional Integrator Sliding Mode Controller Based On Swarm Intelligence For A Magnetic Levitation System, Abdelkader Kerraci, Mohamed Fayçal Khelfi, Zoubir Ahmed-Foitih

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper proposes an enhanced Conditional Integrator Sliding Mode Controller using Particle Swarm Optimization (CISMCPSO) for a magnetic levitation system (MLS). The main advantage of this controller is its robustness to uncertainties and disturbances, which also avoids chattering and ensures zero static steady-state error. The main idea of CISMCPSO is to activate its integral action only when the sliding surface reaches the boundary layer while it is reduced to zero or close to zero elsewhere, which avoids destroying the transient response caused by the conventional integral sliding-mode controller. A particle swarm optimization algorithm schedules the conditional integral term parameter of …

A New Dxccdita Based Meminductor Emulator And Its Application In Chaotic Oscillator, Bhawna Aggarwal, Shireesh Kumar Rai, Harsh Jain

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This work introduces a new dual-X current conveyor differential input transconductance amplifier (DXCCDITA) based meminductor emulator, alongside its application in chaotic oscillator has also been presented. To realize the designed meminductor emulator, one DXCCDITA, two resistors, and two capacitors are employed. Pinched hysteresis loops are achieved across a wide frequency range spanning from 100 Hz to 1.5 MHz, encompassing both decremental and incremental topologies. Additionally, the proposed circuit offers the flexibility to switch between incremental and decremental configurations using a simple switch. Through examination of non-volatility and transient responses, the efficiency of the presented emulator is evidently demonstrated. To further …

Acoustic Velocity Inversion Based On Convolutional Autoencoder Embedded With Fourier Neural Operator, Li Chen, Zhao Haixia, Bai Zhaowei, Hao Yufan

Coal Geology & Exploration

Background Seismic wave inversion serves as an effective method for obtaining the characteristics of structures, lithology, and physical properties of subsurface media using the arrival times, amplitude, and waveforms of seismic waves. Seismic inversion methods based on wave equations iteratively update model parameters using forward modeling. This generally involves extensive numerical simulations and optimization calculations, requiring large quantities of computational resources and time. In recent years, neural operators for deep learning, represented by the Fourier neural operator (FNO), have gained widespread attention. However, the original FNO structure fails to effectively learn the wavefield information with sharp changes in geological structures …
