القدس: مشروع بناء ضخم في فترة المفوضين الرومان / Monumental Building Project In Jerusalem In The Time Of The Roman Governors, Nahshon Szanton, Moran Hagbi, Joe Uziel, Donald T. Ariel
Cornerstone: Journal of Archaeological Sites (حجر الزاوية)
For over a century and a half, segments of Jerusalem’s Early Roman-period street network have been uncovered in excavations in the city, particularly the street that wended its way from the southernmost gate of the city, near Siloam Pool, to the Temple Mount. The importance of this street is evident from its dimensions, as well as from the quality of its construction, which undoubtedly required expansive workforce and skilled laborers and craftsmen. Based on archaeological and historical data, the establishment of the street has variously been attributed to the Herodian period, the reign of Herod the Great, or the days …

Philosophy In The Narrative Mode: Alexander The Great As An Ethical Character From Roman To Medieval Islamicate Literature, Anna Ayşe Akasoy
Philosophy In The Narrative Mode: Alexander The Great As An Ethical Character From Roman To Medieval Islamicate Literature, Anna Ayşe Akasoy
Publications and Research
Histories of Arabic and Islamic philosophy tend to focus on texts which are systematic in nature and conventionally classified as philosophy or related scholarly disciplines. Philosophical principles, however, are also defining features of texts associated with other genres. Within the larger field of philosophy, this might be especially true of ethics and within the larger body of literature this might be especially the case for stories. Indeed, it is sometimes argued that the very purpose of storytelling is to reinforce and disseminate moral conventions. Likewise, the moral philosopher can be conceptualized as a homo narrans.
The aim of this …

The Psychometric Properties Of Beliefs About Psychological Services (Baps) Scale Among Omani University Students, Marwa Alrajhi
Journal of Educational and Psychological Studies
Abstract:The current study examines the psychometric properties of Beliefs About Psychological Services (BAPS) Scale (Ægisdottir & Gerstein, 2009) among Omani university students using factor analysis and criterion validity. The study sample consisted of 593 undergraduate university students (60% females). The Arabic version of BAPS was developed by the researcher and its factorial structure was examined using EFA in the first step. CFA was used in the second step to assess the factorial structure of the new EFA structure and the original American structure. The original structure was selected in this paper for its better psychometric properties. In addition, criterion validity …

The Pragmatic Mistake: A View In The Concept And Reasons Of Formation, Kareem Abeed
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
This research studies the pragmatic mistakes by examining the structurally straight grammatical composition which were considered by the grammarians as an un useful lingual. The research followed an analytical descriptive approach in dealing with these grammatical compositions, in addition to a comparison held between the Arabic morphological theories to the contemporary Linguistic discourse. The research aims at crystallizing the concept of pragmatic mistake in order to reveal its roots in the inherited morphological theory and how such a mistake has been formed. The research is constituted of an introduction, then a pavement to the modern Arabic studies that describes the …

Touching Sound: Passion And Global Politics, Maria Frederika Malmström, Mark Levine
Touching Sound: Passion And Global Politics, Maria Frederika Malmström, Mark Levine
Abdou Filali-Ansary Occasional Paper Series
How does sound shape and/or constrain the actions of individuals and groups? In what ways does 'touching sound' constitute important stimuli within everyday experiences and how/why does sound induce strong affective states? How does listening to noise as well as to silences, screeches and songs, clicks and pops, affect us? By focusing on the under-studied realm of sound we increase our understanding of the politics of the sonic. This text opens an interdisciplinary conduit that should enable cross-fertilizations between the disciplines of anthropology, ethnomusicology, history, cultural studies, religious studies and political sociology, bringing together studies of aesthetic production, the …
Framing The Axis Of Evil: American Fear Of An Iranian Nuclear Attack, Sabrina Ghashehbaba
Framing The Axis Of Evil: American Fear Of An Iranian Nuclear Attack, Sabrina Ghashehbaba
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
Since 9/11, the American perception of Muslims, Islam, and Middle Eastern people and countries has shifted seemingly negatively. This paper will investigate American’s opinions on Iran and fears of a nuclear strike by Iran while examining American fear of Muslims, party identification, 2020 election voting, news media representations of Iran, social media usage, fears of immigration, fears of falling victim to a terrorist attack, and fears of whites not being the majority. I predict the more Republican one is, the more they will fear an Iranian nuclear attack because of the conservative rhetoric used. I also expect those who voted …

Narrations by notable Islamic personalities are a significant part of the Islamic religious edifice. However, these narrations are of variable quality and authenticity. To evaluate these narrations, standards and tools were developed and used. This study will look into whether or not it is possible to add a new tool that might aid in evaluating the narrations of an individual muḥaddith, using the example of Umm Salama. The study investigates Umm Salama from multiple perspectives to draw a rich picture of her. A detailed review of Umm Salama's life is presented, her genealogy reviewed, her character explored, her contributions to …

The State Mosques Of The Arabian Gulf: Bridging Tradition And Modernity In The 20th, Yasmine M. A. Mohamed
Archived Theses and Dissertations
The architecture of the state mosques of the Arabian Gulf in the 20th century is an overlooked subject. Their various styles of Islamic architecture, lavish details, luxurious decoration and enormous scale are all intended to convey a message of elegance and power. While some research has been carried out on the Gulf States as part of modern urban development in general, little has been done on State Mosque architecture in particular, and few have been studied or even published in detail. Nevertheless, this region underwent more major changes in its contemporary mosque architecture from its traditional architecture than any of …

Archived Theses and Dissertations
This thesis analyzes Abu Jaâ far Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabariâ s chronicle (d. 923) History of Prophets and Kings using a gender perspective. It focuses on al-Tabariâ s representation of women during the Madina period, arguing that through such a representation al-Tabari projects his Abbasid gender norms on the women of this period. The thesis focuses on four main subjects in relation to al-Tabariâ s text: the image of rebellious non-Muslim women, â Aâ ishaâ s involvement in the Battle of the Camel, and women as rational and emotional players in the Madina period.
