Reading Feyerabend Between Philosophy Of Science, Hermeneutics – And God, Babette Babich
Reading Feyerabend Between Philosophy Of Science, Hermeneutics – And God, Babette Babich
Articles and Chapters in Academic Book Collections
This essay seeks to make the case for reading hermeneutic philosophy of science with Feyerabend. In addition, there is the question of science, as Nietzsche raises this question along with Feyerabend’s programmatic recommendations for traditional philosophy of science. Including a discussion of method in history as in theology and philology, including Nietzsche’s hermeneutics, this essay reviews Feyerabend’s exchanges with Lakatos along with the resistance of mainstream philosophy of science to hermeneutics as such. A discussion of Feyerabend’s ‘gods’ engages what he invokes as ontological abundance as well as his criticism of the limitations of Popper’s critique of Parmenides requiring both …
Building Effective Partnerships Between International Aid Organizations And Civil Society: An Integrated Approach To Tackling Stunting In Indonesia , Nayla Punjabi
Switzerland: International Studies and Multilateral Diplomacy
This study examines the dynamics of collaboration between international aid organizations and civil society, using stunting in rural Indonesian communities as a case study. Stunting, caused by chronic malnutrition during early childhood, leads to irreversible physical and cognitive impairment. Addressing the cultural nuances of this issue requires integrated efforts, highlighting the need to evaluate how international organizations can contribute effectively. This investigation draws on four primary interviews and relevant literature to analyze the factors that enable and hinder successful partnerships. The findings identify significant barriers to collaboration, including top-heavy organizational …

Immigrant Integration In Akureyri, Iceland: Identifying Ways To Cultivate A ‘Sense Of Belonging,’ From The Perspective Of Foreigners, Eliana Goldstein
Iceland: Climate Change and The Arctic
Iceland has experienced significant demographic changes since the 1990s. As climate change intensifies, raising the global temperature, migration to cooler climates such as Iceland will increase. To minimize ‘othering’ and rhetoric conducive to anti-immigrant environments, Iceland must work on integration issues, especially while opportunities and perceptions of other groups are still manageable. Through a series of interviews and discussions with foreigners in Akureyri and a focus group with employees from the University Centre of the Westfjords, integration was defined as a ‘sense of belonging’ and the ability to communicate with the native majority. To aid integration, this study identified a …

Autonomía Femenina En La Gestación Y Parto: Explorando Un Sistema De Salud Medicalizado En Chile, Rachel A. Yoken
Autonomía Femenina En La Gestación Y Parto: Explorando Un Sistema De Salud Medicalizado En Chile, Rachel A. Yoken
Chile: Public Health, Traditional Medicine, and Community Empowerment
This research explored the impact of Chile's medicalized healthcare model on reproductive rights and autonomy during childbirth, particularly in the context of Arica, Chile. Since the transition from dictatorship in 1990, Chile’s healthcare system has evolved into a mixed public-private model, with public services (FONASA) covering 78% of the population and private providers (ISAPRES) disproportionately benefiting higher-income groups, especially men (Nuñez et al., 2020).The normalization of interventions such as cesarean sections, induced labor, and oxytocin administration highlights a trend prioritizing efficiency and profit over respecting natural birthing processes, posing risks to women's dignity and a respectful birth. Using a qualitative …
La Integración De La Medicina Tradicional Indígena En El Sistema De Salud Pública En La Ciudad De Santiago De Chile: Perspectivas Actuales De Los Involucrados., Mia A. Ciotti
Chile: Public Health, Traditional Medicine, and Community Empowerment

Care Here-And-There: How Transnational Family Networks Are Created And Endure Between Tunisia And Italy, Clare Corson
Tunisia and Italy: Politics and Religious Integration in the Mediterranean
Migration continues to be a highly relevant topic in Tunisia, the Maghreb, and Mediterranean regions in general. Tunisia and Italy are two countries with a specific, historical relationship of circular migration. With more and more Tunisian families living across borders, transnationalism and family networks are subjects that require more research. At their intersection is my research on how economic and social remittances come together to form the basis of transnational care networks. How do families and individuals navigate living both here and there? Using survey data and ethnographic interviews with individuals in both Tunisia and Italy, I explored questions of …

A Social History Of Hanoi’S Old Quarters: Community Participation In Preserving Hanoi’S Architectural Heritage, Moana Gregory
A Social History Of Hanoi’S Old Quarters: Community Participation In Preserving Hanoi’S Architectural Heritage, Moana Gregory
Vietnam: Culture, Social Change, and Development
Hanoi’s old quarters are a crucial site when considering the question of urban development alongside cultural heritage preservation. With a history reaching back to the 11th century, its architecture carries stories of village-city craft relations; French colonialism, as well as Chinese and Soviet influences; and most importantly of the desires, hopes and challenges its residents faced throughout the different periods. Today, deteriorating buildings, high population density, lacking infrastructure, and the replacement of houses with modern hotels, restaurants, and tourist offices, pose a threat to maintaining the historical landscape and a challenge to the livelihood of its inhabitants. While several studies …
Faith In The Floodplain Environmental And Religious Change In The Bön Village Of Lubra, Mustang, Lily R. Smith
Faith In The Floodplain Environmental And Religious Change In The Bön Village Of Lubra, Mustang, Lily R. Smith
Nepal: Tibetan and Himalayan Peoples
In the Nepali Himalayas, the village of Lubra, Mustang is contending with how to adapt to intensifying flash floods. Lubra is a religiously and culturally unique village, as it is the only village in Mustang entirely practicing the Tibetan indigenous religion of Bön and contains multiple well-preserved old Bön monasteries. The people of Lubra have a strong historical and spiritual connection to their village and this connection is increasingly being strained by the effects of climate change, development of infrastructure, and outmigration. Residents are looking for ways to adapt to change, and wondering how they will keep their culture and …

Anthropology Faculty Publications and Presentations
Objectives
Cortical bone geometry is commonly used to investigate biomechanical properties of primate mandibles. However, the ontogeny of these properties is less understood. Here we investigate changes in cortical bone cross-sectional properties throughout capuchin ontogeny and compare captive versus wild, semi-provisioned groups. Tufted capuchins (Sapajus spp.) are known to consume relatively hard/tough foods, while untufted capuchins (Cebus spp.) exploit less mechanically challenging foods. Previous research indicates dietary differences are present early in development and adult Sapajus mandibles can resist higher bending/shear/torsional loads.
Materials and methods
This study utilized microCT scans of 22 Cebus and 45 Sapajus from early …

Teaching Brand Strategy In Design: A Seventeen-Step Methodology, Nicolas Guimarães Vieira
MFA Theses Exhibitions Final Papers
View the Digital Exhibition of Seventeen Steps to Strategy
The concepts of design and branding have evolved significantly over time, becoming increasingly complex and interdisciplinary. Despite the general presence of the design field in contemporary society, specific definitions and practices in design often seem ambiguous to people not in the field. This thesis focuses on exploring the multifaceted nature of design within education, particularly as it relates to strategy and branding, and proposes a shift in perspective, namely regarding how young designers are taught to deal with conceptualization, research, and project development related to brands while in university. Through research …

Indigenous Copyright Concepts And Indigenous Data Sovereignty: How Libraries And Archives Can Support It, Rebecca Chapman, Rebecca Plevel
Law Librarian Journal Articles
U.S. copyright law does not account for Indigenous knowledge. These items, such as stories, dances, songs, and oral teachings are data and works authored by a sovereign com- munity, not just individuals. Indigenous data sovereignty provides that data and cultural knowledge are subject to Tribal protections. Tribes have the right as a sovereign nation to govern the collection, ownership, and application of its own data and cultural knowledge. Assimilating Indigenous knowledge into non-Indigenous works is a copyright issue from an Indigenous perspective. Librarians can identify these Indigenous copyright issues to support local Indigenous Peoples and promote efforts toward achieving Indigenous …
The Influence Of Organizational Culture On Mission Drift In A Christian University, Mark Reddy
The Influence Of Organizational Culture On Mission Drift In A Christian University, Mark Reddy
PhD in Organizational Leadership
This study addressed a critical gap in the literature by investigating the relationship between organizational culture and mission drift within Christian higher education. While mission drift has been widely discussed in popular press, limited academic research has explored the factors influencing it, particularly organizational culture. Utilizing the Denison Organizational Culture Survey (DOCS) and the Mission Drift Survey, this study evaluated how culture influences mission clarity and safeguards against mission drift in a Christian university. Findings reveal that consistency and mission from the DOCS are strong predictors of mission clarity, with both showing statistical significance (p < .001). In addition, the DOCS elements predicted safeguards against mission drift through consistency and mission at the significance level of p < .05. The study’s results highlight the importance of consistency and mission in combating mission drift, offering Christian higher education institutions practical insights for reinforcing their foundational goals. Additionally, the research contributed to validating the Mission Drift Survey in an academic context, broadening its potential application beyond business and into higher education sectors. This topic is growing, and further research is needed to expand on these findings and explore additional organizational cultural factors.
