Rembrandt’S Missing Piece: Ai Art And The Fallacies Of Copyright Law, Eleni Polymenopoulou Apr 2024

Rembrandt’S Missing Piece: Ai Art And The Fallacies Of Copyright Law, Eleni Polymenopoulou

Washington Journal of Law, Technology & Arts

This article discusses contemporary problems related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), law and the visual arts. It suggests that the fallacies of copyright law are already visible in legal conundrums raised by AI in the creative sector. These include, for instance, the lack of uniformity in relation to creations’ copyrightability, the massive scale of copyright infringement affecting visual artists and the creative industry, and the difficulties in implementing media regulation and cyber-regulation. The deeply cherished ‘human authorship’ criterion that was sustained recently by a US Federal Appeals Court in Thaler, in particular, is a short-term solution to the legal challenges …

Examining The Predictors Of Job Satisfaction Among Employees, John The Baptist Anodjo, Kelly Foster

Appalachian Student Research Forum

Job satisfaction is a significant determinant of the quality of life of a person given its significant impacts on social relationships and, the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of the person. Current research indicates that job dissatisfaction is prevalent among workers, and it has a severe impact on their health, work-life balance, and overall well-being (Montuori et al., 2022). Conversely, job satisfaction leads to a positive attitude, enhances employee performance, and improves their physical and mental state (Saifullah et al., 2015). The objective of this study is to analyze the significant predictors of job satisfaction among employees. The study provides …

Investigating Perceptions Of Health In The U.S: The Interplay Of Religion And Sociodemographic Characteristics, Tolulope Adeusi, Kelly Foster

Appalachian Student Research Forum

Despite advances in healthcare, health disparities remain globally. This study investigates the complex relationship between religion, income, age, race, and overall health. In particular, I investigated how religious affiliation and practices affect perceptions of overall health while controlling for socio-demographic and economic factors such as gender, race, and income. This study contributes to a better understanding of the multifaceted determinants of health. Existing literature suggests a nuanced interplay between religion and/or spirituality, socio-demographic characteristics, and various health outcomes (Koenig et al., 2013). While some studies highlight the positive contributions of religion and spirituality to mental and/or physical health (Roger & …

Determinants Of Mental Health Outcome Among East Tennessee State University (Etsu) College Students, Charles Nutsugah, Kelly Foster

Appalachian Student Research Forum

Introduction: Mental health remains a critical subject affecting students' academic performance among college students (Wyatt et al., 2017). The incidence and severity of mental health issues are increasing among college students, and such issues pose a threat to health and academic performance. Previous research focused on college students' specific status, for instance, freshman year, and how mental health influences their academic performance (Chemers et al., 2001). There is scanty research that explains how certain variables provide understanding regarding outcomes that impact mental health among college students. These outcomes remain underexplored regarding influencing students' educational performances and experience (Pachucki et al., …

“The Spirit And Power": Max Weber And The Study Of Prophecy And Authority In The First Three Centuries Of The Church, Coleman S. Kimbrough Apr 2024

“The Spirit And Power": Max Weber And The Study Of Prophecy And Authority In The First Three Centuries Of The Church, Coleman S. Kimbrough

School of Theology and Seminary Graduate Papers/Theses

Originally written as a research essay for Dr. Charles Bobertz's Patristics course in the Spring term of 2023, this paper examines the role that prophecy played in the early Church, especially in the Montanist movement of the late second and early third centuries. However, the paper takes prophecy and its authoritative role in the early Church as a springboard to reflect on the study of the early Church from an academic perspective, probing the ways in which twentieth-century scholarship utilized the sociological theory of Max Weber to make sense of the gradual "institutionalization" of the Church from its more charismatic …

Spatial Behavior Of Hospital Visits By Hand, Foot, And Mouth Disease Patients In Nanchang, China, Zeliu Zheng

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Hand foot mouth disease (HFMD) is one of the widespread transmissible diseases that target preschool children, especially in urban regions in East Asia. Understanding the travel patterns of the HFMD patients helps us understand how the spatial behaviors of patients vary across space and what are the underlying forces. It is essential for understanding the healthcare market and planning for resource allocation. Foremost, health behavior and outcome change significantly across geographic regions of various urbanicities (i.e., degrees of urbanization) due to the uneven distribution of healthcare resource. In addition, health studies in the U.S. often use hospital service areas (HSAs) …

Understanding How Volunteer Companionship Impacts Those During The End Of Life: A Realist Evaluation, John Downey, Susan Cooper, Lynn Bassett, Alejandra Dubeibe Fong, Margaret Doherty, Jon Cornwall

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Volunteers are a popular unpaid support role in end of life care yet how accompaniment influences the dying is underdeveloped. This study examined how companionship works, for whom, in what circumstances and why. Initial realist ideas were developed through participant observation (14 months), document analysis, and realist interviews with companionship trainers (n = 6). Theory testing involved volunteer interviews (n = 7), accounts from the dying, proxy accounts for the dying, and written reflections from companionship training. Companionship helps people live well until they die, prepare for death, and experience a good death. Four areas of volunteering explain these outcomes …

The Role Of Dating Apps In The Formation Of Long-Term Relationships In College, Jalani Bodidasa

Honors Thesis

As the prevalence of dating app usage continues to rise, it is imperative to explore the implications of their use, including the influence on long-term relationship formation. In this thesis, I explored whether the widespread use of dating apps amongst college students promotes long-term relationship formation. I also delved into college students’ motivations for using dating apps and whether they would want their dating app use to result in a relationship. One hundred students at the University of South Dakota were surveyed. Results indicated that 31% of respondents are current dating app users. Out of the participants who are single …

Geospatial Analysis Of Historical Tropical Cyclone Intensity And Rainfall In Georgia, United States, Reilly T. Corkran Apr 2024

Geospatial Analysis Of Historical Tropical Cyclone Intensity And Rainfall In Georgia, United States, Reilly T. Corkran

LSU Master's Theses

Tropical cyclones, characterized by their high wind speeds and heavy rainfall, cause widespread devastation, affecting millions of people and leading to economic losses worldwide. Tropical cyclone-specific research in Georgia is scarce, likely due to the coast’s minimal geographical extent and the relative infrequency of direct landfalls. Research on Georgia tropical cyclones does not account for storms that make landfall in Florida and continue north, northeast, or northwest. In 2018, Hurricane Michael generated $4.7 billion in property, agriculture, and forestry damages across southwest Georgia as a Category 3 hurricane. With an increasing population, property development, and agriculture sector sensitive to tropical …
