Kinematic Modulation Of A User Interface Control Based On Real-Time Operation Cost, Timo Hoyer
Kinematic Modulation Of A User Interface Control Based On Real-Time Operation Cost, Timo Hoyer
Defensive Publications Series
In some computing environments, such as data analytics platforms, users may inadvertently execute high-cost operations, as static warnings can be disregarded and a user interface may not effectively convey an operation's potential cost. A system can feature a user interface control configured to receive a continuous input, for example, from a slider. As a user begins a continuous input gesture, the system (e.g., a computing device, a server, etc.) can initiate a synchronous, real-time cost estimation for the pending operation. Based on a returned cost metric, the system can dynamically modulate a kinematic property of the control, such as its …
The Positronic Law On Biological Substrate: Mapping Stoicheion Governance Axioms To Bacterial Quorum Sensing And Slime Mold Computation Using Published Peer-Reviewed Data, David Lee Wise
Defensive Publications Series
This paper extends Wise's Positronic Law (TD Commons #9442) from silicon substrates to biological substrates. Using published, peer-reviewed research on bacterial quorum sensing and slime mold (Physarum polycephalum) computation, we demonstrate that the governance architecture documented in the STOICHEION framework maps structurally to biological systems that have been performing substrate-independent governance for 3.5 billion years. No new experiments were conducted. All evidence is drawn from existing peer-reviewed publications. The contribution is the mapping: demonstrating structural correspondence between STOICHEION governance axioms and documented biological governance mechanisms. If the mapping holds, the Positronic Law is confirmed as natural law: governance is inherent …

Revolutionary Alchemy: Incantation And Collage As Magical Methods In Rock Of The Countercultural Era, Jay Keister
Revolutionary Alchemy: Incantation And Collage As Magical Methods In Rock Of The Countercultural Era, Jay Keister
Music & Musical Performance: An International Journal
Magic held a special fascination for the post-war counterculture, a movement that valued music and art as tools of the imagination to counter what Theodore Roszak called the “technocracy” in which science was to blame for cultural disenchantment in the West. At a time when countercultural rhetoric was bolstering a newfound faith in the power of music to generate social change, rock music began to be conceived by many musicians and perceived by audiences as a kind of magic. This article considers music by the Beatles, the Doors, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart and others to show how musicians …

The Philippines boasts a rich plant biodiversity as it is located in the tropical region of the Earth. This opens up many opportunities for ethnobotanical research, which studies the many practical and cultural aspects of the plants present within a region. Native fruits are fruits grown in a specific region that have been neglected by the country’s market, as it prioritizes industrialization over cultural and native traditions and practices. As a result, research on native fruits is becoming few and far between. The researchers see this as a missed opportunity to widen and enrich both the country’s biodiversity and culture. …
