The Impact Of Inattentive Respondents And The Efficacy Of Quality Control Checks In Online Surveys, Tammy Mccullough, Sam Fullerton Apr 2026

The Impact Of Inattentive Respondents And The Efficacy Of Quality Control Checks In Online Surveys, Tammy Mccullough, Sam Fullerton

Global Advances in Business Communication

An online survey provided insight regarding problems associated with inattentive respondents when collecting primary data using an Internet interface. Rather than open-access, respondents were part of a commercially maintained consumer panel. Inattentive respondents were identified using three quality control checks: an instructional manipulation, a common knowledge question, and a time check. Of the 1,452 respondents who completed the 83-question survey, 511 respondents (35.19%) failed at least one quality control check; 59 (4.06%) failed all three. Deviations between inattentive and attentive respondents were identified. For the instructional manipulation and the common knowledge checks, the impact of the inattentive respondents depended upon …

Not Just Static: Evolutionary Throughlines In The Female Voice, Maria Hand '26 Apr 2026

Not Just Static: Evolutionary Throughlines In The Female Voice, Maria Hand '26

Honor Scholar Theses

Vocal communication is essential for many forms of human interaction and discourse. As such, the human voice has been the subject of extensive scientific research in a variety of contexts, including that of potentially evolved characteristics. Researchers have long studied the various changes that occur in direct relation to hormonal shifts across the ovulatory cycle, but one particularly interesting facet of this research is the voice. There are numerous acoustic parameters that are highly socially salient, and thus an ideal means with which to study potential ovulatory cycle related changes. Studies of this subject additionally provide further insight into the …

The Conundrum Of Industrial Policy: Incompatibility With The Rules Of International Trade Law, Yong-Shik Lee Apr 2026

The Conundrum Of Industrial Policy: Incompatibility With The Rules Of International Trade Law, Yong-Shik Lee

Northwestern Journal of International Law & Business

Since the end of World War II, successful developing countries such as South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and, more recently China, have leveraged industrial policies—notably trade measures and subsidies—to achieve economic development. However, these industrial policy tools often conflict with the rules of international trade established under the World Trade Organization (WTO law), which aims to minimize government interference and reduce trade distortions. Paradoxically, such regulatory constraints hinder the development aspirations of many countries. Meanwhile, major global economies, including the United States, China, and the European Union, have revived industrial policies to support their key industries, such as semiconductors and electric …

For Us, By Us: A Sensory Ethnographic Study Of Creating Queer Safe Spaces, Chelsea Dawn Liddell

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

This sensory ethnographic study conducted in the summer of 2025 looks at the impact of for us, by us queer spaces on queer young adults working as counselors at a queer youth camp located in a rural Midwestern United States area. Interviews and a researcher journal were used to co-create data with the queer young adult participants and provide sensory information beyond spoken language. Queer theory as presented by Judith Butler (1990, 1993, 2004, 2015) and Sara Ahmed (2006, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2021) is considered throughout, as well as ideas of space and place as conceived by Doreen Massey (1993, …

Targeting Mitochondrial Fitness To Restore Immune Balance In Aging: The Role Of Urolithin A, Rafael Moura Maurmann Apr 2026

Targeting Mitochondrial Fitness To Restore Immune Balance In Aging: The Role Of Urolithin A, Rafael Moura Maurmann

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Aging drives systemic functional decline and represents the primary risk factor for comorbidities and mortality. Immune dysregulation is central to chronic age-related inflammation, with macrophages acting as key mediators of unresolved tissue damage. This functional compromise coincides with metabolic maladaptations including elevated mitochondrial stress and impaired mitophagy, which exacerbate oxidative stress and inflammatory overstimulation. However, the exact mechanistic links driving these phenotypes remain incompletely understood. Urolithin A (UA) has emerged as a promising strategy to enhance mitochondrial health via mitophagy stimulation, yet its immunoregulatory effects in the context of aging remain unexplored. Objectives: This study aimed to characterize mitochondrial dysfunction …

Organismic Encoding Of Geographic Information In Dna, Hema Siva Gayathri Dalavayi Apr 2026

Organismic Encoding Of Geographic Information In Dna, Hema Siva Gayathri Dalavayi

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Recent evidence suggests that DNA also encodes information that reflects long-term environmental conditions. This work examines whether an organism’s genome encodes specific environmental information, and if so, what is its nature and origin. Genes from three insect groups, Simuliidae (blackflies), Lepidoptera (butterflies), and Formicidae (ants), were analyzed to address the geographic provenance (latitude, longitude) problem. DNA was converted into numerical signatures using noncrosshybridizing DNA bases and used to train machine learning (ML) models. Predictions achieved errors below the baseline, even for models trained on combined data without region-specific labels, indicating that DNA encodes this information and suggesting that the underlying …

Playing Hard To Get: Limerence And The Psychology Of The Amator In Latin Love Elegy, Carson Carpenter '26 Apr 2026

Playing Hard To Get: Limerence And The Psychology Of The Amator In Latin Love Elegy, Carson Carpenter '26

Honor Scholar Theses

This thesis seeks to further bridge the gap in the literature between the fields of psychology and Latin literature. Specifically, it examines Latin love elegy through modern psychological frameworks of limerence. Limerence is a descriptive psychological condition in which an individual experiences an involuntary, often uncontrollable obsessive attachment to another person known as the limerent object. Drawing from the works of Ovid, Propertius, Tibullus, and Catullus, the thesis argues that the elegiac amator consistently parallels the cognitive andemotional patterns associated with limerence, including idealization, uncontrollable ruminative thinking, emotional volatility, and fixation on reciprocated attention. Using Verhulst’s five stage model and …

Regulating Dogs Or Protecting Industry? A Critical Analysis On The Animal Welfare Act And The Federal Oversight Of Commercial Dog Breeding In The United States, Ava Knight '26 Apr 2026

Regulating Dogs Or Protecting Industry? A Critical Analysis On The Animal Welfare Act And The Federal Oversight Of Commercial Dog Breeding In The United States, Ava Knight '26

Honor Scholar Theses

To evaluate whether existing federal laws adequately protect the welfare of dogs, this research relies on publicly available inspection records and enforcement data from the United States Department of Agriculture and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA, APHIS), federal oversight reports from the United States Department of Agriculture and Office of Inspector General (USDA, OIG), and data collected by animal welfare organizations including Humane World for Animals and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). These sources expose how current regulations function in practice and reveal gaps in oversight that allow harmful breeding conditions to …

Puppy Love: Intimacy In Omegaverse Fanfiction, Emma Shober '26 Apr 2026

Puppy Love: Intimacy In Omegaverse Fanfiction, Emma Shober '26

Honor Scholar Theses

This thesis tackles intimacy in omegaverse fanfiction. In an effort to describe the omegaverse, I published a survey, held interviews, and read five select works of omegaverse fanfiction. The themes that emerged from those qualitative survey responses and interviews were wolf packs, freedom to procreate, animal instincts, societal rigidity, and exploration of gender and power dynamics. Survey respondents were quick to note that the omegaverse is more than just erotica or smut; it is worldbuilding at its core that draws many of them to this genre. The five works of fanfiction I read support this idea, many using sex as …

Roll Me A History Check: Role-Playing Games In Education, Andrew Thede '26 Apr 2026

Roll Me A History Check: Role-Playing Games In Education, Andrew Thede '26

Honor Scholar Theses

Roll Me a History Check explores the use of Role-Playing Games (RPGs)—a style of narrative game where players create and pilot distinct characters and play through a storyline run by a Game Master (GM)—in education. The primary goals of the project align with its three principal parts. First, a brief review of the existing literature on the benefits of both purely educational and purely entertaining RPGs, with Reacting to the Past and Pathfinder first edition serving as respective examples, will demonstrate the merits of a hybrid system. Next, the rules for the new system, Ludus, will be presented to bridge …

Knightly Arts For Modern Audiences: Faithfully Portraying Historical European Martial Arts In Contemporary Media, Justus (Isaiah) Morgan '26 Apr 2026

Knightly Arts For Modern Audiences: Faithfully Portraying Historical European Martial Arts In Contemporary Media, Justus (Isaiah) Morgan '26

Honor Scholar Theses

The ahistorical spectacular stylization of medieval and Renaissance European martial arts, which is common in modern artistic media, is flawed. In at least some cases a historically informed approach is preferable. This thesis describes how one might take such a historically informed approach to writing a fight scene. It examines the martial arts practiced by elite members of society through the medieval poems Beowulf and The Song of Roland, and through martial arts manuals including Fiore de’i Liberi’s Flos Delatorum, the glosses of Johannes Liechtenauer’s Zettel, and the rapier manuals of Camillo Agrippa and Girard Thibault d’Anvers. It considers audience …

Harriet Hosmer: Femininity And Stone, Savannah V. Parrish Apr 2026

Harriet Hosmer: Femininity And Stone, Savannah V. Parrish

Undergraduate Theses

Harriet Hosmer was an American woman sculptor who studied in Rome, Italy, from 1853 to 1900. Hosmer led her own cohort of women artists and inspired other artists in Rome. Hosmer’s sculptures and the controversies surrounding them exemplify her experiences as a career woman of her time. Hosmer made sculptures of women who defied the will of men, both mythical and historical. Hosmer’s sculptures show how she felt restricted in the world, particularly in the field of sculpture as a woman and how like the figures of her sculptures she found freedom in stone, where she could tell the stories …

Quality Improvement Project: Educating Nursing Faculty On Animal-Assisted Therapy: Enhancing Knowledge And Confidence To Improve Program Outcomes, Sarah J. Whitwell

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate whether an educational intervention on animal-assisted therapy (AAT) improved nursing faculty perceived knowledge and confidence in using AAT to improve program outcomes. The problem addressed was the limited knowledge and confidence among nursing faculty regarding the use of non-traditional, evidence-based strategies to support student mental health. This project was guided by the Stetler Model of Evidence-Based Practice and Lewin’s Change Theory and used a quasi-experimental, one-group pre–post design. The project was conducted with nursing faculty teaching in a baccalaureate program at a four-year public university in Oklahoma. A 10-item Likert-scale …

Time And Actual Infinity In Aristotle's Physics, Atanas Georgiev Iliev Apr 2026

Time And Actual Infinity In Aristotle's Physics, Atanas Georgiev Iliev

Classics Undergraduate Senior Theses

This thesis examines the relationship between the existence of infinity and the nature of time as presented in Aristotle’s Physics, arguing that his two theories come into tension at two points. The Introduction sets out the purpose and methodology of the study and offers an overview of the historical reception and influence of Aristotle’s teaching on the infinite. Chapter I outlines this teaching, examining Aristotle’s reasons for categorising instances of the infinite through several dichotomies, most notably the distinction between actual and potential existence, before presenting his arguments for rejecting the existence of an actual infinity. Chapter II turns to …
