Effects Of Water Chemistry On Interaction Between Organic Contaminants And Microplastics And Their Passage In Microfiltration Membrane, Chutiporn Inchana
Effects Of Water Chemistry On Interaction Between Organic Contaminants And Microplastics And Their Passage In Microfiltration Membrane, Chutiporn Inchana
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The agricultural activity is a critical source of organic contaminants and microplastics (MPs). Typically, the agricultural soil is contaminated by an abundance of MPs, leaching chemicals during weathering process, and pesticides, which subsequently end up in surface water through agricultural runoff. Polymers that are most frequently used in crop production and detected in surface water are PE and PET MPs. Bisphenol (A) and atrazine are frequently detected in surface water. Nevertheless, the fate and distribution of organic pollutants in water treatment as a consequent on MP-aided transport is constrained by little knowledge on photoaged PE and PET MPs. In this …

Determination Of Nutrients Digestibility In Commercial Dry Dog Food Containing Various Protein Sources, Phuong Anh Ta
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study evaluated the nutritional adequacy and digestibility of commercial dry dog foods formulated with different protein sources (animal versus plant) and market tiers (premium versus economy). Eight commercial dog foods were analyzed for nutrient composition and amino acid profiles using proximate analysis and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Of these, four representative products were selected to assess digestibility through in vivo total fecal collection in Beagle dogs and in vitro digestion assays. All products exceeded 18% crude protein (the minimum crude protein requirement by AAFCO). However, deficiencies were examined in essential amino acids, particularly leucine, isoleucine, methionine, lysine, tryptophan, valine …

The classification of bird species is of significant importance in the field of ornithology, as it plays an important role in assessing and monitoring environmental dynamics, including habitat modifications, migratory behaviors, levels of pollution, and disease occurrences. Traditional methods of bird classification, such as visual identification, were time-intensive and required a high level of expertise. However, audio-based bird species classification is a promising approach that can be used to automate bird species identification. This study aims to establish an audio-based bird species classification system for 264 Eastern African bird species employing modified deep transfer learning. In particular, the pre-trained EfficientNet …

In practical life, we encounter many systems that cannot be studied directly, either due to their high cost or because some of these systems cannot be studied directly. Therefore, we resort to the simulation method, which depends on applying the study to systems similar to real ones and then projecting these results if they are suitable for the real system. The simulation process requires a good understanding of probability distributions and the methods used to transform random numbers that follow a regular distribution in the field [0,1] into random variables that follow them, so that we can achieve the greatest …

As we argue in a previous article, the labyrinthine worlds of Jorge Luis Borges are more than captivating narratives; they are portals to a deeper understanding of existence. By weaving elements of science-fiction fantasy with philosophical and ethical inquiries, Borges's short stories bridge the seemingly disparate realms of physics and the humanities, offering fertile ground for contemporary physics research. The present-day universe consists of galaxies, galaxy clusters, one-dimensional filaments and two-dimensional sheets or pancakes, all of which combine to form the cosmic web. The so called ”Zeldovich pancakes”, are very difficult to observe, because their overdensity is only slightly greater …

Remark On Falaco Soliton As A Tunneling Mechanism In A Navier-Stokes Universe, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
This paper is a follow up to our previous article [1] suggesting that it is possible to find tunneling time solutions for Schrodinger equation considering quasicrystalline as interstellar matter, by virtue of quasicrystalline potential. The paper also discusses the mapping of these equations to Riccati equations, a class of nonlinear differential equations. This mapping can provide insights into the behavior of the Navier-Stokes equations and may lead to new methods for solving them. The Navier-Stokes equations, a set of nonlinear partial differential equations, are fundamental in fluid mechanics. They describe the motion of viscous fluids. In three dimensions, these equations …
Logical Pluralism And Neutrosophy: Reflections On The Nature Of Truth, Florentin Smarandache
Logical Pluralism And Neutrosophy: Reflections On The Nature Of Truth, Florentin Smarandache
Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications
The article explores the shift from classical binary logic (true and false) to a more complex landscape of logical frameworks. It introduces logical pluralism, which suggests that no single, universally accepted system of logic exists. The paper connects this idea to neutrosophy, a framework that extends fuzzy logic by incorporating a third value: indeterminacy. This triadic approach, where every proposition has a degree of truth (T), falsity (F), and indeterminacy (I), is particularly useful for managing incomplete or contradictory information. The author argues that different logical systems, like different tools, are suited for different problems, and that the …

Forty years ago, in its most roundly-criticized criminal procedure decision in modern history, the Supreme Court, in Barefoot v. Estelle (463 U.S. 880 (1983)), a decision premised on testimony by the responses to a hypothetical of a witness who had never directly evaluated the defendant, ruled that such testimony as to future dangerousness – testimony that had concluded there was a “100% chance” the defendant would commit more crimes if released into society -- was permissible. Over a stinging dissent by Justice Blackmun, the Supreme Court had ruled in Barefoot that it was not constitutional error for psychiatrists to testify …
The Puzzle Of Floating Forum Selection Clauses, John F. Coyle, Robin J. Effron
The Puzzle Of Floating Forum Selection Clauses, John F. Coyle, Robin J. Effron
Faculty Publications
This essay examines floating forum selection clauses—provisions linking the litigation forum to a post-contractual fact such as a party’s future principal place of business, an assignee’s location, or a unilateral designation. Categorizing floating clauses into three types, the authors analyze divergent judicial approaches to enforceability and the underlying tension between waiver and submission as theories of consent. They argue that floating clauses expose conceptual inconsistencies in personal jurisdiction doctrine, especially regarding foreseeability and due process, and highlight how courts struggle to reconcile contract principles with constitutional limits.
Breathing Nietzsche’S Atmospheres, Gary Shapiro
Breathing Nietzsche’S Atmospheres, Gary Shapiro
Philosophy Faculty Publications
This essay contextualizes the themes of breath and atmosphere in Nietzsche’s thinking, reading them in relation to certain contemporary crises and theories. Climate change and airborne pandemic challenge the tendency to position breath and atmosphere as life’s unthought background. Luce Irigaray’s phenomenological-feminist claim that Western philosophy has forgotten breath and James Nestor’s comprehensive investigation of medical, scientific, and disciplinary respiratory research programs provide contrasting frameworks for clarifying Nietzsche’s emphasis on breath as crucial to embodied human life. Atmospheric surround – taken in a spectrum of interrelated senses, meteorological to affective – is breath’s correlative. Nietzsche’s insistence on life’s irreducible atmospheric …

Face Morphing Attacks Detection Approaches: A Review, Essa Mokna Namis, Khalid Shakir Jasim, Sufyan Al-Janabi
Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data
Face recognition systems (FRSs) that are applied by real-time applications such as border control are vulnerable to attacks such as face morphing, which blends two or more facial images into a single morphed image. The vulnerability of FRSs to many types of attacks, including both direct and indirect attacks, as well as face-morphing attacks, has garnered significant attention from the biometric field. A morphing attack aims to undermine the security of an FRS at an automated border control (ABC) gate by using an electronic machine-readable travel document (eMRTD) or e-passport that is acquired using a morphed face image. Most countries …

In this paper, we delve into the core of our proposed dynamic load balancing mechanism, the Hybrid Spotted Hyena based Load Balancing algorithm (HSHLB). We begin by presenting a comprehensive overview of the Spotted Hyena Optimization Algorithm (SHOA) and the fundamental behaviors it encompasses, namely migration and attacking. We then introduce the Load Balancing Algorithm (LB) and outline its principles, emphasizing its distinct characteristics. Recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of both SHOA and LB, we embark on a journey to hybridize these two optimization techniques, resulting in the potent HSHLB. We elucidate the intricate process of combining these algorithms, elucidating …

Since the inception of operations research, linear programming has received the attention of researchers in this field due to the many areas of its use. The focus was on the methods used to find the optimal solution for linear models. The direct simplex method, with its three basic stages, begins by writing the linear model in standard form and then finding a basic solution that is improved according to the simplex steps until We get the optimal solution, but we encounter many linear models that do not give us a basic solution after we put it in a standard form, …

Interaction among light and water molecules have baffled scientists for many decades, and even centuries. In this regards, photons in the visible spectrum, where bulk water normally doesn't absorb light, can surprisingly cleave off large water clusters from the water-vapor interface, according to a recent study by Tu and Chen (2023). This discovery, termed the "photomolecular effect," opens exciting possibilities for not only revolutionizing renewable energy but also paving the way for a more integrated-ensemble approach to health management (cf. Smarandache & Christianto, 2010; Tu & Chen, 2023; Tu et al., 2024). In a sense, other than with green or …

Santa Clara Law Review
The United States Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization marked a constitutional reckoning, with pervasive and inescapable consequences for many Americans. This article discusses this constitutional reckoning in two senses. First, it was a reckoning with the Court’s own precedent, as it overturned nearly fifty years of precedent on abortion rights. Second, it was a reckoning with the Court’s role in American society, as it raised fundamental questions about the Court’s legitimacy and its ability to protect the rights of minorities.
This article begins by outlining a history of abortion rights in the United States, from …

If any group is to endure over time, individual frustrations, while inevitable, must be usually experienced as acceptable, or at least tolerable. Failing that, little would prevent the losers in these conflicts from leaving or revolting, which would be cumulatively debilitating to the group. As opposed to holding law’s job to impose order and police infringers, the second approach suggests that finding the balance between group and individual desires is the ‘major difficulty of all law—the problem of really getting a fresh start in relations between litigants after disposition of a trouble-case. This is the problem not only of keeping …
