Forage Quality: Assessing The Plant-Animal Complex, D J. Minson May 2026

Forage Quality: Assessing The Plant-Animal Complex, D J. Minson

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

At the VI International Grassland Congress held at Pennsylvania State College in 1952, the late Dr. C.P. McMeekan reviewed the many problems associated with the plant-animal complex. Great stress was placed on the need to measure forage intake accurately as a prerequisite to an under-standing of the plant-animal complex. Progress in the development of more accurate :methods of estimating the forage intake of grazing animals is reviewed, including the introduction of different methods of administering chromic oxide, the esophageal fistula for obtaining samples of selectively grazed material, the in-vitro technique for estimating the digestibility of the forage eaten, and the …

Competitive, Adaptive, And Evolutionary Process In Grassland Ecosystems, B D. Patil May 2026

Competitive, Adaptive, And Evolutionary Process In Grassland Ecosystems, B D. Patil

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

In the tropics, grasslands or grazing lands are found where the forest vegetation climax has been subjected to fire, grazing, felling, or other disturbances. Grazing lands in the tropics form various ecosystems under the major climatic types. Delineation of such ecosystems is possible through remnants of the climax vegetation of undisturbed or least-disturbed areas. Several subecosystems exist as seral stages under each ecosystem, the floristic composition of which is a reflection of the edaphic and soilmoisture-fertility conditions. Biological production in terms of energy for grazing animals varies among these ecosystems and subecosystems. Reconstruction of the adaptable competitive flora with woody …

From Linear To Circular Transition: A Multi-Level Perspective On Waste Generation And Circularity Potential In Irish Hotels, Sahar Attari, James Hanrahan Dr

Irish Journal of Tourism, Hospitality, Leisure and Event Research

This study examines how the multi-stream waste composition of Irish hotels aligns with European Union circular economy targets and what this reveals about the sector's position within a linear-to-circular transition. It provides the first multi-stream waste benchmark for the Irish hotel sector and interprets the findings through a socio-technical transition lens. A cross-sectional waste audit was conducted across 30 Irish hotels, collecting full-year data on food waste, recycling, and general waste. Carbon emissions were calculated using life-cycle emission factors, threshold analysis derived empirically grounded typologies, and circularity gaps were quantified against the EU 2030 recycling target (65%). Findings were interpreted …

Prior Traumatic Brain Injury As A Predictor Of Cognitive Deficits After Moderate-To-Severe Injury, Disha A. Thakkar, Charles J. Golden

Archives of Assessment Psychology

Prior traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are common among individuals who later sustain a moderate-to-severe TBI (msTBI), and cumulative injury models suggest repeated TBIs may worsen long-term cognitive outcomes. This study tested whether prior TBI history independently contributes to cognitive performance one year after an index msTBI beyond demographic and injury-severity factors. Data were drawn from the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems National Database (N = 6,880 enrolled since 2017). 2,773 participants completed the Brief Test of Adult Cognition by Telephone at one-year follow-up. Hierarchical regression models evaluated whether prior TBI history accounted for incremental variance in overall cognitive status and …

"In Keeping With The Constitution’S Original Design": History And Tradition In Federal Indian Law, Meghanlata Gupta May 2026

"In Keeping With The Constitution’S Original Design": History And Tradition In Federal Indian Law, Meghanlata Gupta

Public Land & Resources Law Review

This Article examines the Supreme Court’s use of history and tradition in federal Indian law. In recent years, the Court has increasingly relied on Founding-era practices and historical traditions to determine constitutional meaning in areas such as firearm regulation, substantive due process, and religious liberty. At the same time, while the Founding-era record contains substantial evidence that Native nations were understood and treated as independent, sovereign political communities, this evidence has not yet been fully incorporated into the Supreme Court’s Indian law jurisprudence. Examining decisions from Oliphant to Castro-Huerta, this Article describes the Court’s approaches to historical analysis in Indian …

Feeding Mechanics And Digestive Physiology Of Map Turtles, Michael Christopher Fulbright May 2026

Feeding Mechanics And Digestive Physiology Of Map Turtles, Michael Christopher Fulbright

Doctoral Dissertations

The objective of this research was to relate the form of the map turtle feeding apparatus to its function and digestive physiology. Female map turtles (Genus Graptemys) exhibit pronounced differences in their head shapes and prey bases in the wild. I measured voluntary bite force in megacephalic Pearl River map turtles (G. pearlensis) and microcephalic Sabine map turtles (G. sabinensis) along with a suite of morphological characteristics. I found that many morphological characteristics are good predictors of bite performance in both megacephalic and microcephalic map turtles, and that the commonly used metric of head width noted in other studies of …

Depth Of Processing Re-Examined: Semantic Superiority Persists Despite Increased Lexical Task Demands, Porter Roth, Devon Winder, Cohen Thatcher, Matthew Lynn

Curiosity

The present study investigates whether semantic or lexical judgement tasks yield deeper encoding and higher recall accuracy in working and short-term memory. Using the Levels of Processing theory framework, we compared a semantic categorization question, “Is this an animal?” with a more cognitively effortful lexical question, “Is this a word backwards?” to test whether increased cognitive effort improves recall over mental categorization. A self-selecting sample of 31 Utah State University students completed a within-subjects experiment with an encoding phase followed by a recall phase. Word stimuli were controlled for length, frequency, phonological simplicity, and concreteness. Results showed significantly higher recall …

To Chew Or Not To Chew: Effect Of Aposematism On Caterpillar Predation, Emily Kuehnl, Sadie Bivens, Rebekah Rowe, Olivia Halvorsen May 2026

To Chew Or Not To Chew: Effect Of Aposematism On Caterpillar Predation, Emily Kuehnl, Sadie Bivens, Rebekah Rowe, Olivia Halvorsen

Curiosity

Understanding predator-prey interactions offers insight into ecological dynamics and the selective pressures shaping traits that drive adaptive strategies. Aposematism is a well-established defense mechanism that combines conspicuous coloration with unpalatable chemical deterrents. This strategy is particularly effective against visually oriented avian predators, yet less is known about arthropods and mammals, which rely on other sensory cues. This study seeks to broaden the understanding of the effectiveness of aposematism by examining whether warning coloration in caterpillars will deter predation by birds, mammals, and arthropods. To achieve this, plasticine caterpillars representing cryptic (brown) and aposematic (yellow) phenotypes were deployed to trees in …

Motherhood Within The Patriarchal Family: Reconstructing Feminism Through "Frankenstein", Yasamin Osqueezadeh May 2026

Motherhood Within The Patriarchal Family: Reconstructing Feminism Through "Frankenstein", Yasamin Osqueezadeh

Curiosity

In 1792, pioneering English feminist Mary Wollstonecraft published “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman,” arguing that women’s rights could only advance if women moved into the male-dominated public sphere, leaving behind household-centered education, traditional marriage structures, and the nuclear family dynamic. In 1818, Wollstonecraft’s daughter Mary Shelley published “Frankenstein,” in which she explored and critiqued women’s permanent and unacknowledged status as caretakers within their households. Whereas Wollstonecraft aimed to dismantle marriage completely, Shelley simultaneously argued to preserve the notion of family and marriage while also reconstructing the gender roles within those dynamics. Through the lack of female representation from …

Baghdad Science Journal

Web phishing attacks have been continually evolving over the past few years, which has led customers to lose their trust in online services and e-commerce. To identify phishing data, a variety of methods and systems based on a blacklist of phishing websites are used. However, the rapid development of technology has given rise to increasingly complex techniques for creating user-attracting websites. Therefore, current blacklist-based techniques are unable to identify the recently launched phishing data, such as zero-day phishing websites. Machine learning techniques have been used in several recent studies to detect phishing data and function as an early warning system …

New Generalizations Of Pairwise Lindelöf Spaces, Hana M. Binshahnah, A. K. Mousa

Baghdad Science Journal

This study is introducing two new different pairwise related to Lindelöf bitopological spaces. Lindelöf spaces are among of the most important topological spaces with important applications in various branches of mathematics. Therefore, many studies on Lindelöf topological spaces and pairwise Lindelöf bitopological spaces were presented in previous papers. However, those two new pairwise Lindelöf bitopological spaces are more general than what has been studied before. Therefore, the study defines a new pairwise interior operator and a new pairwise closure operator, furthermore, it reviews their characteristics where the researchers provide new strongly pairwise axioms (the strongly pairwise regular and the strongly …

The principal factor in the proofs of many so-called intersection results and associated best approximation theorems—such as the famed Brouwer fixed-point theorem) is Knaster-Kuratowski-Mazurkiewicz theorem (KKM), which was extended from Rl to Hausdorff vector spaces by Ky Fan. This kind of theory necessitates introducing some form of abstract convex structure on a topological space. In both pure and applied mathematics, the theory of approximation plays a central role. The connection between best approximation and fixed-point theory provides a powerful tool for analyzing the nonlinear maps, the convergence of iterative processes, and the solving of variational …
