Research On Multi-Ship Collision Avoidance Decision-Making Based On Improved Velocity Obstacle Method Using Dynamic Elliptical Ship Domains, Tang Xinwei, Li Weifeng

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

The velocity obstacle method offers collision avoidance solutions for critical multi-ship encounter scenarios. This thesis introduces a Reciprocal Velocity Obstacle (RVO) approach based on dynamic elliptical ship domains for multi-ship collision avoidance. Initially, the concept of dynamic elliptical ship domains is presented, building upon the original static elliptical ship domain Velocity Obstacle (VO) method. Subsequently, multi-ship encounter scenarios are simulated in both virtual environments and real nautical charts, comparing the two methods. The analysis results demonstrate the improved method's excellent performance in both cases, underscoring its advantages. This research provides more effective collision avoidance strategies for multi-ship encounters.

Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan

The TetraEther indeX of 86 carbon atoms (TEX86) proxy, which is based on isoprenoid glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (isoGDGTs) produced by Thaumarchaeota in marine environments, is widely used to reconstruct past sea surface temperatures (SSTs). However, evidence suggests that this proxy often instead reflects subsurface conditions, particularly in dynamic marginal seas. Therefore, we conducted a cross-seasonal study of glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether (GDGT) distributions in the southern East China Sea (ECS), which is characterized by strong monsoonal and current-driven hydrographic variability. We analyzed surface sediments and the high-resolution vertical profiles of suspended particulate matter (SPM) collected from 2016 …

Neutrosophic Circular-Arc Graphs And Proper Circular-Arc Graphs, Takaaki Fujita, Florentin Smarandache

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Graph theory is a fundamental branch of mathematics that studies networks made up of nodes (vertices) and connections (edges). A key concept in graph theory is the intersection graph, where vertices represent sets, and edges are drawn between vertices if their corresponding sets intersect. A circular-arc graph specifically models the intersections of arcs on a circle, with vertices corresponding to the arcs and edges existing between intersecting arcs. This paper delves into the study of circular-arc graphs within the frameworks of fuzzy, intuitionistic fuzzy, neutrosophic, and Turiyam Neutrosophic graphs, all of which incorporate uncertainty into graph structures. Additionally, we examine …

Shinto is intertwined with Japanese tradition in a way that many Westerners, …

Bridging The Information Gap Between Criminal Law And Psychological Science, John B. Meixner Jr. Jan 2025

Bridging The Information Gap Between Criminal Law And Psychological Science, John B. Meixner Jr.

Scholarly Works

Some of the most pressing issues in American criminal law—the dominance of plea bargaining, vast executive discretion, and systemic racial disparities—turn on fundamentally empirical questions. Yet, while legal academics largely analyze these issues through doctrinal or theoretical lenses, psychologists and criminologists frequently study the exact same phenomena using empirical methods. Surprisingly, these fields operate almost entirely independently. The legal academy consistently overlooks substantial psychological research that could inform normative arguments, while psychologists often design studies without crucial context from criminal legal scholarship. This chapter outlines the contours of this critical information gap and proposes solutions to bridge it.

Multimodal Imaging Of Protein-Based Biomaterials For Delivering Chemo-Agent Cargo For Glioblastoma Treatment In A Murine Model, Orin Mishkit

Dissertations and Theses

Protein-based self-assembling biomaterials, known as Thermo-Responsive Assembled Proteins (TRAP), present meaningful potential as drug delivery carriers. These materials enable the controlled, slow release of poorly soluble chemotherapeutic agents, such as doxorubicin (Dox), while potentially reducing systemic off-target effects. In collaboration with multiple NYU labs, this study evaluated the efficacy of two TRAP variants—TRAP and F-TRAP—as drug delivery carriers in a xenograft mouse model of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

The primary objective was to compare the effectiveness of TRAP-loaded Dox (TRAP-DOX) to free Dox in achieving tumor extravasation and accumulation, facilitating sustained drug release. We hypothesized that the leaky vasculature of GBM …

Adaptation Of The Biodent For Spherical Microindentation To Determine Elastic Modulus In Small Rodent Bones, Mixame E. Jerome

Dissertations and Theses

Mechanical and material properties of bone are essential for understanding both normal skeletal function and the progression of bone-related diseases. Microindentation has become a widely used method for evaluating tissue mechanical properties of bone, as it samples the contributions of microarchitecture and composition. Microindentation using a standard pointed tip inherently introduces both elastic and plastic deformation into the material. In contrast, indentation with a spherical tip can be operated entirely in the elastic range, providing for a non-damaging test that has significant advantages over sharp indentation techniques. Moreover, a key advantage of using spherical indentation lies in its operation under …
