Proactive Conversational Ai: A Comprehensive Survey Of Advancements And Opportunities, Yang Deng, Lizi Liao, Wenqiang Lei, Grace Hui Yang, Wai Lam, Tat-Seng Chua

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Dialogue systems are designed to offer human users social support or functional services through natural language interactions. Traditional conversation research has put significant emphasis on a system's response-ability, including its capacity to understand dialogue context and generate appropriate responses. However, the key element of proactive behavior-a crucial aspect of intelligent conversations-is often overlooked in these studies. Proactivity empowers conversational agents to lead conversations towards achieving pre-defined targets or fulfilling specific goals on the system side. Proactive dialogue systems are equipped with advanced techniques to handle complex tasks, requiring strategic and motivational interactions, thus representing a significant step towards artificial general …

  1. Understanding migratory connectivity, or the linkage of populations between seasons, is critical for effective conservation and management of migratory wildlife. A growing number of tools are available for understanding where migratory individuals and populations occur throughout the annual cycle. Integration of the diverse measures of migratory movements can help elucidate migratory connectivity patterns with methodology that accounts for differences in sampling design, directionality, effort, precision and bias inherent to each data type.
  2. The R package MigConnectivity was developed to estimate population-specific connectivity and the range-wide strength of those connections. New functions allow users to integrate intrinsic markers, tracking and long-distance …

Good Practice For All Sentence Frames To Support Multingual Students In The Ela Classroom, Genevieve Palestino Feb 2025

Good Practice For All Sentence Frames To Support Multingual Students In The Ela Classroom, Genevieve Palestino

The Utah English Journal

The struggle to meet student needs is an ever- present concern for all teachers. Besides English 9, I teach English Language Development (ELD), and I frequently find myself in conversations with other teachers about how to support our school’s multilingual (ML) population. One thing I try to emphasize in my conversations with teachers is that most “extra steps” for MLs are best-practice strategies that will benefit all students. A strategy that can be especially beneficial for students is leveled sentence frames.

A Switch Protein Adapter For Anti-Lilrb4 Car-T Cells, Ryan Huang, Heyu Chen, Jingjing Xie, Qi Lou, Lingxiao Tan, Ningyan Zhang, Zhiqiang An, Samuel John, Cheng Cheng Zhang Feb 2025

A Switch Protein Adapter For Anti-Lilrb4 Car-T Cells, Ryan Huang, Heyu Chen, Jingjing Xie, Qi Lou, Lingxiao Tan, Ningyan Zhang, Zhiqiang An, Samuel John, Cheng Cheng Zhang

The Brown Foundation: Institute of Molecular Medicine

Chimeric antigen receptor-T cell (CAR-T) immunotherapy has shown remarkable results for the treatment of certain hematologic malignancies. A redirection strategy that utilizes clinically relevant CAR-T cells in combination with adapter proteins may be an effective strategy to target other hematologic and solid cancers. We established a fusion antibody-based strategy with flexibility to target multiple tumor types in combination with a novel anti-leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor-B 4 (LILRB4) CAR-T cell. Specifically, we engineered switch protein (SwP) adapters containing the LILRB4 extracellular domain fused to either an anti-CD19 or anti-CD20 single-chain variable fragment (scFv). These SwPs were sufficient to stimulate anti-LILRB4 CAR-T cells …

Leucine-Rich Alpha-2-Glycoprotein 1 Promotes Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Growth Through Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 3 Signaling, Moeez Rathore, Kimberly Curry, Wei Huang, Michel'le Wright, Daniel Martin, Jiyeon Baek, Derek Taylor, Masaru Miyagi, Wen Tang, Hao Feng, Yamu Li, Zhenghe Wang, Hallie Graor, Joseph Willis, Elizabeth Bryson, Christina S Boutros, Omkar Desai, Bianca N Islam, Lee M Ellis, Stephen E Moss, Jordan M Winter, John Greenwood, Rui Wang

Background & aims: Therapy failure in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC, ∼80% occur in the liver) remains an overarching challenge. Preclinical studies demonstrated that human epidermal growth factor receptor 3 (HER3) promotes colorectal cancer (CRC) cell survival, but therapies blocking the neuregulin-induced canonical HER3 signaling have made little impact in the clinic. Recent studies suggest that the liver microenvironment promotes CRC growth by activating HER3 in a neuregulin-independent fashion, thus elucidation of these mechanisms may reveal new strategies for treating patients with mCRC.

Methods: Patient-derived primary liver endothelial cells (ECs) were used to interrogate EC-CRC crosstalk. We conducted proteomic …

The ability of neurons to sense and respond to damage is crucial for maintaining homeostasis and facilitating nervous system repair. For some cell types, notably dorsal root ganglia and retinal ganglion cells, extensive profiling has uncovered a significant transcriptional response to axon injury, which influences survival and regenerative outcomes. In contrast, the injury responses of most supraspinal cell types, which display limited regeneration after spinal damage, remain mostly unknown. In this study, we used single-nuclei sequencing in adult male and female mice to profile the transcriptional responses of diverse supraspinal cell types to spinal injury. Surprisingly, thoracic spinal injury induced …

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of prominent machine learning algorithms in predicting normal tissue complication probability using clinical data obtained from 2 distinct disease sites and to create a software tool that facilitates the automatic determination of the optimal algorithm to model any given labeled data set.

Methods and materials: We obtained 3 sets of radiation toxicity data (478 patients) from our clinic: gastrointestinal toxicity, radiation pneumonitis, and radiation esophagitis. These data comprised clinicopathological and dosimetric information for patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer and anal squamous cell carcinoma. Each data set was modeled using 11 commonly employed machine …

Status Of Abortion Curriculum In Genetic Counseling: Survey Of Graduate Programs And Recent Graduates In The United States, Gina Sanchez, S Shahrukh Hashmi, Erica Bednar, Sarah Horvath, Bhavik Kumar, Katelynn Sagaser, Claire N Singletary, Aarti Ramdaney Feb 2025

Status Of Abortion Curriculum In Genetic Counseling: Survey Of Graduate Programs And Recent Graduates In The United States, Gina Sanchez, S Shahrukh Hashmi, Erica Bednar, Sarah Horvath, Bhavik Kumar, Katelynn Sagaser, Claire N Singletary, Aarti Ramdaney

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Genetic counselors (GCs) are trained to help individuals navigate the medical and psychological implications of genetic test results, familial conditions, and ultrasound anomalies. Therefore, familiarity with reproductive options, including abortion, is vital. However, previous studies have found gaps in GCs' knowledge regarding abortion care and there are currently no recommendations regarding abortion curriculum. This study aimed to assess the state of abortion curriculum in genetic counseling graduate programs in the United States and to examine and compare the satisfaction levels of program representatives and recent graduates. Program representatives and recent graduates were invited to complete an anonymous survey evaluating the …
