Current Challenges And Preliminary Morphological Reassessment Of The Genus Chaerilus Simon, 1877 In China (Scorpiones: Chaerilidae), Victoria Tang

Euscorpius

The genus Chaerilus Simon, 1877 in China is preliminarily revised on a morphological basis, derived from the available literature and newly examined specimens. The robustness of several commonly applied species-level diagnostic criteria are evaluated. Ten species are provisionally recognized for China, including one new morphospecies, Chaerilus herta sp. n., described from 9 females, 40 males, and 2 juvenile females collected in Mêdog County. The current study only reveals and resolves several most elementary issues in the taxonomy of Chinese Chaerilus. Further molecular investigations are warranted until topotypes of certain species become available.

Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel

Three excavation seasons conducted in the southern lagoon of Dor uncovered the remains of the Dor Wreck 2 (DW2) shipwreck—a 15.5 m-long trading coaster built from poor-quality but well-preserved wood. The ship was constructed using techniques characteristic of the Mediterranean shipbuilding tradition. The hull of the ship was well-preserved, indicating it could carry up to 20 tons of cargo. However, due to the scarcity of finds, it is not possible to determine the ship’s cargo. The identified wood species suggest that the ship was constructed in western Turkey or southwestern Syria. Carbon-14 dating, combined with electrochemical analysis of the corrosion …

Unveiling Role Of Oncogenic Signalling Pathways In Complicating Breast Cancer, Acharya Balkrishna, Sagar Kumar, Rohan Malik, Kuldeep Singh Mehra, Hariom Chaturvedi, Okeshwar Okeshwar, Rashmi Mittal

BioMedicine

Heterogeneous nature of breast cancer has significantly affected the overall survival, disease free survival and progression free survival amongst the diseased individuals. Metastasis of cancerous cells to distant sites including bone, lungs, liver, lymph node and others have further exhilarated the adverse effects. However, ER, PR and HER-2 are responsible for normal physiological development of women but in altered conditions they may act as initiator or progressor and so far 5 subtypes of disease have been identified. Alteration of pro-survival, pro-proliferative and anti-apoptotic pathways including JAK/STAT, MAPK,

PI3K/AkT/mTOR, NF-κB, BCL2 and several others have induced oncogenic events including epithelial-mesenchymal transition, …

Three-Dimensional Mesh Editing Using Masked Large Reconstruction Models Feb 2025

Three-Dimensional Mesh Editing Using Masked Large Reconstruction Models

Defensive Publications Series

We present a novel approach to mesh shape editing, building on recent progress in 3D reconstruction from multi-view images. We formulate shape editing as a conditional reconstruction problem, where the model must reconstruct the input shape with the exception of a specified 3D region, in which the geometry should be generated from the conditional signal. To this end, we train a conditional Large Reconstruction Model (LRM) for masked reconstruction, using multi-view consistent masks rendered from a randomly generated 3D occlusion, and using one clean viewpoint as the conditional signal. During inference, we manually define a 3D region to edit and …

Standing To Enforce The Future: Citizen Suits And Climate Change, Jordan Budd, Margaret Sova Mccabe Feb 2025

Standing To Enforce The Future: Citizen Suits And Climate Change, Jordan Budd, Margaret Sova Mccabe

Law Faculty Scholarship

This Article takes as its starting point the premise that Congress, facing an existential climate catastrophe, might choose to impose direct and significant restrictions on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Were it to do so, federal policy would require powerful enforcement mechanisms to reach the myriad emission sources fueling the nation’s vast contribution to global warming.

Among the most potent and far-reaching enforcement tools available to Congress are citizen suits—actions brought by private litigants to enforce federal regulations and to hold agencies accountable for related inaction. Private enforcement in the context of climate change, however, faces a nearly insurmountable barrier—Article III …

Constraints Interfering With The Goals Of Child Maltreatment Programs In Northwestern Wyoming, Barbara Andersen Feb 2025

Constraints Interfering With The Goals Of Child Maltreatment Programs In Northwestern Wyoming, Barbara Andersen

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Child abuse and neglect occurs in the United States and Wyoming. There are numerous variables that influence caregivers to abuse, and if unresolved, these variables can contribute to future events of child maltreatment. This study focused on the programs assigned to achieve reunification and the constraints observed by the program providers that interfere in resolving the variables that cause child maltreatment. The research questions were: What specific factors or constraints impede the successful achievement of program goals? In what ways do the identified constraints hinder the effectiveness of the programs? What strategies could be implemented to overcome constraints and improve …

The Lungs Of The Finch: Three-Dimensional Pulmonary Anatomy Of The Zebra Finch (Taeniopygia Castanotis), Aracely Martinez, Raul E. Diaz, Clinton A. Grand Pre, Brandon P. Hedrick, Emma R. Schachner

School of Graduate Studies Faculty Publications

The avian respiratory system has been an area of biological interest for centuries, with zebra finches (Taeniopygia castanotis) emerging in recent decades as a primary avian model organism popularized across numerous disciplines. The pulmonary system of birds is unique in that air moves unidirectionally through the gas-exchanging lung, and previous works have suggested anatomical constraints within the bronchial network that may be coupled to the inspiratory valving mechanism in Aves. We used µCT-based segmented models to visualize and describe the morphology of the zebra finch lower respiratory system and to examine intra- and interspecific differences of the bronchial tree with …

For A Decolonial Approach To Game Design Methods Beyond Representation, Rafael Arrivabene Feb 2025

For A Decolonial Approach To Game Design Methods Beyond Representation, Rafael Arrivabene

School of Art, Design and Architecture

This article draws attention to game design methods in decolonialist studies. As the importance of systematization in game design starts to become apparent, there is an opportunity to challenge the normalization of values, tropes, and power fantasies that have shaped the industry over the years. The article discusses the ways in which colonialist values permeate recurrent elements of game design, contrasting it with characteristics found in pre-colonial games and how they can be related to indigenous perspectives, which usually do not fit capitalist premises.

Exploring Positive Distractions In Pediatric Healthcare Design, Brayden Nichols, Lindsey Fay Feb 2025

Exploring Positive Distractions In Pediatric Healthcare Design, Brayden Nichols, Lindsey Fay

Posters-at-the-Capitol

This research investigates the role of positive distractions in healthcare environments, focusing on how architectural elements can improve patient well-being. Specifically, it examines features such as access to nature, color, and art installations in pediatric spaces, aiming to understand their impact on reducing stress, enhancing satisfaction, and promoting healing. Healthcare design has traditionally prioritized clinical efficiency over emotional and psychological considerations. However, research highlights the importance of incorporating elements that redirect patients' focus away from the clinical environment, known as positive distractions. During my study, I found substantial evidence that natural elements significantly calm young people, which guided my emphasis …

Poisson Lindley-Quasi Xgamma Distribution For Count Data: Properties And Applications, Seth Borbye, Suleman Nasiru, Kingsley Kuwubasamni Ajongba, Sampson Wiredu

Al-Bahir

The literature contains innumerable probability distributions for modeling over-dispersion and under-dispersion count datasets from various fields of study. However, some of these proposed distributions are inadequate due to empirical or theoretical characteristics. Therefore, minimizing information loss during modeling has prompted the demand to modify the classical discrete distributions. A new two-parameter count distribution is proposed by combining Poisson and Lindley-quasi XGamma distributions via a continuous mixture technique. Some statistical properties have been derived and studied, including factorial moments, raw moments, probability generating function, moment generating function, characteristic function, mean, variance, dispersion index, skewness, and kurtosis. The shape of the PMF …

Preoperative Non-Pharmacological Anxiolysis For Pediatric Patients, Ashton Rowsey, Mary Beth Greenway Feb 2025

Preoperative Non-Pharmacological Anxiolysis For Pediatric Patients, Ashton Rowsey, Mary Beth Greenway

Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing

The most common medications used for anxiolysis in pediatrics include midazolam, dexmedetomidine, fentanyl, and ketamine. Unfavorable outcomes from pharmacological management of preoperative anxiety consist of respiratory complications, hypotension, drowsiness, and delayed recovery. Based on literature review, nonpharmacological distraction techniques are as beneficial in alleviating preoperative anxiety levels in pediatric patients without the known adverse effects as compared to pharmacologic treatment options. Nonpharmacologic techniques mentioned include maskless induction devices, gamification, preferred cartoons, coloring, use of electronic devices, and animated stories about surgery and anesthesia. Distraction techniques are cost efficient and hold minimal to no adverse effects when utilized in patient care.

Sea star wasting syndrome has affected numerous species of sea star, with populations of Pycnopodia helianthoides (Brandt, 1835) left most at risk. As their populations are struggling to recover, it is important to gain a better understanding of the impacts that the multiple stressors in their habitats can have on their populations. Contaminant stressors in particular are of increasing importance, because aquatic organisms can be exposed to a dynamic range of contaminants from nearby anthropogenic activity that may affect their future recovery efforts. This study is the first to quantify the effects of contaminant stressors on the larvae of P. …

Evaluating The Health Performance Of Mass Housing Projects In Egypt Lighting Design Of Dar Masr Project, New Damietta, Hala Mohamed Raslan, Huda El-Baz M.

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The Egyptian government has recently established many governmental mass housing projects to meet the housing needs nationwide. These projects are characterized by their unified repetitive design that rarely consider geographic, climatic and social variations from one site to another. The study objectives are to examine the health performance of mass housing projects; “Dar Misr” as an example. Dar Misr consists of 150,000 units distributed over 15 different cities, and is fully finished with unified electrical installations and preinstalled luminaires. The study examines the health performance of the project’s lighting design, both natural and electrical light, using the “WELLV2 rating system …

Deep Core Advocacy Coalitions, Christopher M. Weible, Anna M. Crawford, Allegra H. Fullerton, Kayla M. Gabehart, Katherine E. Imhoff, Giulia Mariani

Michigan Tech Publications

As one of the most established theoretical approaches to public policy, the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF) has moored most of its theoretical arguments around a textbook policy conflict consisting of two or more advocacy coalitions in a mature adversarial policy subsystem within an advanced polyarchy. This article steps beyond the textbook by introducing deep core coalitions marked by compounding intersectional identities operating at the macro-system. It offers two illustrations of deep core coalitions, one bound by their collective transgender identity and the other by their collective traditionalist identity. Finally, this article concludes with a discussion of what it means for …

Fungi And Fungi-Like Entities, Claudia Pogoreutz, Miriam Reverter, Nathalia Delgadillo-Ordonez, Anna Roik

School of Biological and Marine Sciences

Coral microbiology research has long focused on the composition and functional roles of prokaryotic organisms, but microeukaryotic communities, including the enigmatic fungi remain a poorly understood “black box” within coral and other holobionts. Here, we summarise what is known and hypothesised about the diversity, functional traits and potential, and chemodiversity of coral- and reef-associated fungi and fungi-like organisms (FLOs). Finally, we briefly outline the challenges associated with the characterization of marine fungi and provide a perspective for future studies to elucidate the biology, chemical ecology, and organismal interactions of marine fungi and FLOs within coral reef holobionts and their potentially …
