Residential Subdivisions: Underlying Themes And Associated Forms, Christopher D. King, Geoffrey Wall Apr 2025

Residential Subdivisions: Underlying Themes And Associated Forms, Christopher D. King, Geoffrey Wall

The Geographical Bulletin

Land is one of the most important resources available to man. Man's activities take place upon the land and his buildings are, of necessity, firmly rooted in the ground. The way in which these buildings are arranged has changed through time in response to the changing aspirations of society. Perhaps the most basic use of the land is residential. We spend most of our time at home and the environment in which we dwell influences our performance in all phases of life. In urban situations the means of utilizing the land resource is the process of land subdivision. The term …

Development Through The Domestication Of Animals: The Case Of The Musk Ox And The Eland, James L. Kelly Apr 2025

Development Through The Domestication Of Animals: The Case Of The Musk Ox And The Eland, James L. Kelly

The Geographical Bulletin

In recent years a determined effort has been made to domesticate new animals with most attention focusing on the eland, which is native to the arid and semi-arid areas of southern and eastern Africa, and the musk ox of arctic North America.1 The underlying purpose of these efforts is to develop lands that are currently either poorly used or not used at all. The natural habitats of the musk ox and the eland are areas plagued by cold temperatures or aridity. These regions have resisted man's attempts at agriculture. Even grazing of domestic livestock has been difficult because of harsh …

To The Shores Of Tripoli: America’S First Crusade To Cement Her Sovereignty, I. B. Landry Apr 2025

To The Shores Of Tripoli: America’S First Crusade To Cement Her Sovereignty, I. B. Landry

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

The First Barbary War, also known as the Tripolitan War, is the conflict that set the tone for American sovereignty. The results of this research show that the Tripolitan War was about more than simply America’s right to exercise trade freely in the Mediterranean and North Africa. This was, in a sense, the litmus test for the new nation that would prove to be challenging to its Christian values. It can be concluded that Thomas Jefferson sanctioned the Augustinian campaign to not only benefit America, but all parties wishing to operate in the Mediterranean freely.

Windmills As Symbols Of Economic Development And Progress In West Texas From 1860 To 2011, Stacy Taylor

Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History

The outline of a windmill against the sky is a popular image of Texas found on many forms of media including illustrations, photographs, and other print media. How did the image of a windmill become symbolic to Texas? The purpose of this paper is to determine how and why windmills became an important symbol representing the Texas Plains. Methodology used included analysis of scientific information to explore the geography of Texas, which demonstrated why windmills were needed in West Texas. Critical analysis of journals and books were performed to determine the history of the introduction and evolving use of windmills …

Guideline Development And Implementation For Non-Intubated Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery, Lauren Moad Apr 2025

Guideline Development And Implementation For Non-Intubated Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery, Lauren Moad

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Since the 1990s, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has become the standard for many thoracic operations, providing a minimally invasive approach. Traditional VATS management with general anesthesia (GA), muscle relaxation, and one-lung ventilation (OLV) poses risks of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) that can lead to a prolonged length of hospital stay (LOS). Recently, non-intubated VATS (NI-VATS) has become popular due to fewer anesthesia-related complications and faster recovery, especially for patients with compromised respiratory function who may not tolerate GA or intubation. NI-VATS combines regional anesthesia with spontaneous non-invasive ventilation mechanisms, avoiding GA, intubation, and OLV complications. Studies show NI-VATS leads to …

Building Climate Resilience Through Food Recovery, San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative, Alexander Pourfard, Aranza Ruvalcaba

San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative

In an effort to combat GHG emissions from food waste, California passed Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) into law in 2016. The bill contains key provisions aimed at increasing edible food recovery. By rescuing food that would otherwise go to the landfill, California entities have been able to help save precious food and advance sustainable solutions to address climate change in their local communities. Since the food recovery requirements took effect in January of 2022, over 217,000 tons of unsold food have been recovered annually, providing more than 700 million meals to food-insecure Californians.
