Vector control strategies increasingly focus on nonconventional chemicals with high insecticidal efficacy, persistence, and low toxicity to nontarget organisms. The present multiphase study, conducted in laboratory, semifield, and field conditions in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, evaluated the efficacy of pyriproxyfen (0.5%) (juvenile hormone analog) in controlling mosquito emergence. Laboratory bioassays demonstrated significant susceptibility of Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles, 1901 (Diptera: Culicidae) larvae, with the first and second instars exhibiting 100% mortality at 1 ppm and third and fourth instars showing emergence inhibition (IE) of 86.11% and 65.28%, respectively. Probit analysis determined lower LC₅₀, LC₉₀, and LC₉₉.₉ values for the first instar larvae …

Distribution Pattern And Abundance Dynamics Of Asian Openbill (Anastomus Oscitans) In Rice Field Throughout Peninsular Malaysia, Badrulhadza Amzah, Rosli Ramli, Noorhidayah Mamat
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The Asian Openbill (Anastomus oscitans) plays a crucial role in rice field ecosystems by preying on invasive apple snails (Pomacea spp.), potentially reducing the reliance on chemical molluscicides. This study investigated the distribution and abundance dynamics of the stork across major rice granaries in Peninsular Malaysia. Surveys were conducted at 111 sampling points within 30 localities across 11 states during five consecutive rice seasons (2022–2024), with bird counts obtained through binoculars and digital photography. Results indicate that storks are highly concentrated on the northern and central west coasts, where rice fields provide abundant foraging opportunities. In the northern regions (Perlis, …

A Singular Case Of Early-Stage Long-Distance Dispersal Of The Smooth Newt, Lissotriton Vulgaris (Linnaeus, 1758) (Amphibia, Caudata), Simone Costa, Francesco Paolo Faraone, Mario Lo Valvo
Turkish Journal of Zoology
To date, the global introduction of alien amphibians and reptiles has likely been facilitated by the expanding plant nursery trade. Here, we report in detail a singular case of unintentional introduction of Lissotriton vulgaris in Sicily. A newt in the final stages of its larval development was found in a private garden pond in north-western Sicily, where aquatic plants from a nursery in Veneto (northeastern Italy) had been introduced two months earlier. The analysis of the mithochondrial markers ND2 and ND4 revealed a shared haplotype between the Sicilian newt and a sample from Treviso, the province of the putative source. …

The vagus nerve, serving as a pivotal link between the brain and vital organs, regulates crucial physiological functions. It plays a central role in maintaining homeostasis within the body and must dynamically adapt to changing conditions such as anesthesia or sleep. While vagal tone, typically estimated indirectly from heart rate variability, has been extensively studied, direct measurement of vagal activity during sleep and anesthesia remains unreported to date. Recent technological advancements have facilitated the recording of vagus nerve activity in freely moving rodents using small, highly flexible carbon nanotube yarns. Consequently, it is now feasible to directly investigate vagal activity …

Background: Plozasiran, an investigational siRNA targeting hepatic apoC-III, reduces triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs). The impact of plozasiran on lipoprotein particle numbers and sizes is unknown. However, reductions in the number of TRL particles (TRL-P) and a shift to possibly less atherogenic large low-density lipoprotein particles (LDL-P) are expected.
Objectives: This study aimed to determine the impact of plozasiran on lipoprotein particle concentration and subclass distribution using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in 2 phase 2 studies.
Methods: Patients (N = 403) from SHASTA-2 (severe hypertriglyceridemia) and MUIR (mixed hyperlipidemia) were administered 2 total subcutaneous doses of plozasiran (10, 25, or 50 mg) …

Cryptosporidium is a major cause of severe diarrhea. Although Cryptosporidium isolates exhibit significant differences in infectivity and virulence, the genetic determinants for these traits are not clear. In this study, we use classical genetics to cross two Cryptosporidium parvum isolates of different virulence and use bulk segregant analysis of whole-genome sequences from the progeny to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with Cryptosporidium infectivity and virulence. Of the 23 genes in three QTL, two have loss-of-function mutations in the low-virulence isolates, including the SKSR1 gene encoding a variant secretory protein. Deletion of the SKSR1 gene or expression of the frame-shifted …

Nicotine influences dopamine (DA) release in the nucleus accumbens, a brain region associated with reward processing and addiction. This study examined nicotine’s effects on DA signaling using fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) in anesthetized rats. Electrodes were implanted to stimulate DA release in the medial forebrain bundle and record signals in the ventral striatum. After administering saline or nicotine, DA levels were monitored in real-time, and electrode placement was later verified through histological analysis. Saline-treated rats showed minor DA fluctuations, with a peak signal detected at 50 minutes, while technical difficulties prevented complete nicotine data collection. However, previous experiments indicated significantly …

Biblical Themes In Spanish Instruction, Adrienne J. Royo
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
This paper seeks to answer the question, when teaching Spanish, does one have to be in a certain venue to be able to share God and the Bible? Through exploration of legends, myths, traditions, Spanish proverbs, and names of geographical locations, as well as personal experiences, the question is answered, elucidating the fact that the sharing of God’s Word is not dependent upon the venue, it is centered in a sense of intentionality in seeking opportunities appropriate to the setting and the occasion. In a spiritual and physical sense, Psalm 19:1 (KJV) defines the world around us when David declares: …

The Business Of Business: A Biblical Approach To The Purpose Of The Firm, Abraham Johannes Oberholster
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The debate on the purpose of the business corporation has been raging for more than a century. Inspired by capitalistic thinking, economists, corporate managers and investors have mostly maintained that the predominant goal for corporations is to maximize shareholder wealth. In contrast, society has argued that the corporation also has a social responsibility as a legal entity and community member.
The legal precedent set in 1919 with Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. is that “a business corporation is organized and carried on primarily for the profit of the stockholders”. The oft quoted argument of Milton Friedman (1970) that the social …

A Relational God And Why Worldview Self-Examination Is A Crucial Component Of Christian Education, David R. Nelsen Ph.D
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Christian education seeks to transform the lives of its students, preparing them to serve both in their present life and in the life to come. At the center of this process are the students and how they currently think, act, and make sense of the world around them i.e., their worldview. Thus, preparing students for service both here and in the hereafter requires that students become aware of and take control of their worldview systematically and deliberately. Ultimately, this facilitates their ability to form a lasting and transformative relationship with God. Here I present a biblical foundation for why students …

The Communication And Public Speaking Course And Biblical Foundations – Interpersonal Encounters With The Creator, Victoria Joiner Edd
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
Teaching COMM 135 Communication and Public Speaking from a biblical worldview is critical to the Southern University student body. This paper discusses various strategies to provide a biblical foundation in the course that has secular humanistic thought and philosophies at its core. This worldview is a seamless, often unconscious stream of biblical inclusion throughout the semester. Successfully integrating the basic biblical foundation principle of God’s interpersonal communication with humanity within Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for the course is not only possible but essential within the biblical foundation paradigm. Wood’s (2016) eight axioms/principles of Interpersonal Communication provide a foundation upon which …

Engineering Hiv-1 Env Protein To Elucidate In Situ Structural Dynamics Of Env, Narendra Kumar Gonepudi
Biotechnology Theses
The HIV-1 Envelope (Env) glycoprotein trimers undergo structural changes upon interacting with host receptor CD4 and coreceptors (CCR5/CXCR4) for virus entry. As the only surface-exposed viral protein, Env is a key antibody target but evades recognition through structural changes. Studying Env dynamics with respect to the coreceptor binding region (V3 loop) provides insights into virus entry and immune evasion. Fluorescence labeling via genetic code expansion (amber–TAG suppression) offers a minimally invasive approach for fluorescence microscope-based Env dynamics studies. Here, two V3-related dual-amber Env constructs (A135TAG-P308TAG, P308TAG-E395TAG) were generated by incorporating two non-canonical …

Mate Choice And Movement Ecology Of Plegadis Ibis In Louisiana, Ryan T. Klutts
LSU Master's Theses
In 1817, George Ord documented the first North American records of Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), a species native to the Old World. Over the next 200 years, Glossy Ibis expanded its breeding range to include the Atlantic coast to southernmost Florida and thence up the Gulf coast to eastern Texas. Forty-five to 75 years ago, its range expansion brought it into secondary contact with White-faced Ibis (P. chihi) in Louisiana, a native species whose breeding range includes freshwater wetlands in Louisiana and eastern Texas. Hybridization between the two species resulted in a large hybrid zone in southern Louisiana, providing an …
