Grains Of Change – Analyzing Consumption Pattern Of Millets Among Rural Population: A Cross-Sectional Study, T Kavimalar, Rashmi Hullalli, Muttappa R. Gudadinni, Mallikarjun C. Yadavannavar
Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU
INTRODUCTION:
Millets, with their exceptional nutritional value, nonglutinous nature, and digestive ease, offer a wealth of benefits. They are rich in lecithin and known to fortify the nervous system. While millets such as jowar are dietary staples in rural India, they have often been relegated to animal feed and birdseed elsewhere. Despite India’s deep-rooted millet tradition, the consumption of pearl millet (bajra) declined by 67% in urban and 59% in rural areas between 1972–1973 and 2004–2005. Recognizing their potential, the Indian Government proposed the declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets to the UN.

Don't Make Waves: Community Involvement In Offshore Wind Energy Development, Theresa Norman
Ocean and Coastal Law Journal
The federal government has started the process of ramping up U.S. offshore wind energy production by orders of magnitude for the next decade. In the past, affected communities have shown the ability to delay and even halt offshore wind development, and some stakeholders believe that the environmental impacts of these projects are too uncertain to risk undertaking them. Currently, the regulatory road to a fully commissioned offshore wind farm is lengthy, expensive, and full of hurdles, which include grappling with local community pushback. This Article will explore the regulatory process and its relationship with stakeholder pushback and litigation. The Article …
From Petrostate To Precedent: The Impact Of Held V. Montana On Future Climate Litigation And The Urgent Need For Federal Climate Action, Hailey Rizzo
Ocean and Coastal Law Journal
In 1972, Montana, a prominent petrostate, amended its constitution to enshrine the inalienable right to a clean and healthful environment. After decades of fossil fuel production and consumption, which led to high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, this green amendment became the foundation of Held v. Montana--the first youth-led constitutional climate case to prevail against a petrostate. This Article illustrates the importance of Held for the plaintiffs in the case, for current and future residents of the state, and for plaintiffs in future climate change litigation. This Article also urges the federal government to provide an avenue for redress for …

A Lockean Theory Of Coastal Climate Adaptation, Lingxi Chenyang
Ocean and Coastal Law Journal
What rights do coastal residents have as the seas swallow their homes and livelihoods while the government fails to act? Many legal and policy reforms have been proposed to help people better respond to climate-induced coastal erosion. Little has been said about the underlying theories of climate governance. This Symposium Article identifies three theories of climate adaptation in the context of disappearing coastlines: scientific realism; economic realism; and liberal rights. According to scientific realism and economic realism, the key obstacle to effective climate adaptation is an uninformed government facing a scientifically and economically complex climate future. To the extent that …

Breaking Down The Barriers To Animal-Free Research, Lauren Hope, Jarrod Bailey
Non-Animal Methods and 3Rs
For centuries, animals have been used in research due to their genetic and physiological similarities to humans. However, significant differences exist between humans and animals, which have the potential to confound results obtained from such experiments. These differences result in reduced translatability of animal data to humans, which is a major contributing factor to the 92% failure rate for novel therapies in clinical trials. Advances in scientific research have enabled the development of human-focused New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), which include in silico and 3-D in vitro models. By harnessing these novel approaches, greater predictive power for human biology, human diseases …
Commentary On Blaser's "Antibiotic Use And Its Consequences For The Normal Microbiome", Fred C. Tenover
Commentary On Blaser's "Antibiotic Use And Its Consequences For The Normal Microbiome", Fred C. Tenover
AMR Commentary
If you have not read this eye-opening commentary by Dr. Martin Blaser about the negative impact of the widespread use of antibiotics in children, you should. The goal of giving antibiotics to children usually is to treat an infection — an earache, a respiratory tract infection, or perhaps a potentially deadly bloodstream infection. Those antibiotics, however, will often kill more than just the bacteria that are causing the infection. Humans have large quantities of “good bacteria” in our intestinal tracts, on our skin, and elsewhere on our body that play an important role in keeping us healthy.

Immersive Philosophical Thought Experiments Through Virtual Reality, Gordon Carlson Ph.D., Sammuel (Rob) Byer Ph.D.
Informatics Faculty Publications
Virtual reality (VR) is transforming higher education by providing immersive and interactive learning environments that enhance traditional pedagogical methods. While disciplines such as medicine and engineering have been early adopters of VR for skill development and simulation training, its potential in the humanities, particularly Philosophy, is only beginning to be explored. Philosophy courses often challenge students to grapple with abstract concepts and complex ethical dilemmas which can feel disconnected from real-world applications. VR offers a unique opportunity to bridge this gap by allowing students to experience these scenarios in lifelike, immersive settings. This study examines the use of VR in …

Human SNCA, which encodes a-synuclein protein (SNCA), was the first gene linked to familial Parkinson's disease (PD). Since the discovery of the genetic link of SNCA to Parkinson's nearly three decades ago, many studies have investigated the normal function of SNCA protein. However, understanding of the normal function of SNCA is complicated by the lack of a reliable mammalian model of PD; indeed, mice with homozygous null mutations in the Snca gene live a normal lifespan and have only subtle synaptic deficits. Here, we report the first genetic modifier (a sensitized mutation) of a murine Snca null …

Background/Objectives: Studies have reported an increased risk of type 2 diabetes among people with higher protein intake. Moreover, branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) are reported to be positively associated with insulin resistance (IR). However, it is not understood whether elevated levels of BCAA are causal to IR development, or if higher BCAA are a marker of IR. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of long-term protein and carbohydrate supplementation on plasma BCAA levels, and the relationship between plasma BCAA and IR in postmenopausal women. Methods: Stored samples and data from 84 postmenopausal women who participated in a …
