Bacterial infections, especially those caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, still pose a significant challenge for biomedical applications, such as the management of wound and bone infections. This investigation aimed to prepare and characterize hydroxyapatite–alginate (HAp/Alg) composites from bamboo shell waste at several synthesis pHs (7–10) and to study their potential as clindamycin-loaded antibacterial drug delivery systems. XRD results showed that hydroxyapatite was the main crystalline phase in all samples, while FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of both hydroxyapatite and alginate in the composite. As a result, the smallest crystallite size of HAp/Alg-10 (21.25 nm) among the composites that …

Promoting Digital Inclusion Through Mobile Learning In West African Educational Systems, Joshua Olaoluwa Jegede, Temitope Michael Jegede

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Mobile learning is the use of small and portable devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones, for educational purposes. It influences where, how, what, and why students learn, as well as from whom they learn in the digital age. While the adoption of technology in education has brought a remarkable shift from traditional to digital learning, a global digital divide distinguishes developed and developing regions. However, mobile learning leverages the affordability and ubiquity of mobile devices to provide access to educational resources, bridging the digital divide in regions with limited educational infrastructure. This study is a systematic review of mobile …

Hemodynamic Characterization Of Cardiac Dysfunction After Traumatic Brain Injury Using A Controlled Cortical Impact Model In Male Rats, Preston So, Amit Iyengar, Noah Weingarten, Mrinal Patel, Jessica Dominic, Andrew Belec, Joyce Ho, Samuel Shin, Pavan Atluri

Division of Cardiology Faculty Papers

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with cardiovascular dysfunction that worsens clinical outcomes, yet the underlying mechanisms are poorly under stood. Clinical studies are limited by heterogeneity, highlighting the need for con trolled experimental models. Controlled cortical impact (CCI) provides precise control of injury severity, and invasive pressure- volume (PV) loop analysis allows detailed hemodynamic assessment. Adult male Wistar rats underwent sham op eration or mild or severe CCI- induced TBI. PV- loop assessment and transtho racic echocardiography were performed at 8 or 24 h after TBI or sham. Serum epinephrine (EPI) and norepinephrine (NE) were quantified by ELISA. At …

Cortical Plasticity Following Peripheral Nerve Injury In The Upper Extremity, Samah Gassass Aug 2026

Cortical Plasticity Following Peripheral Nerve Injury In The Upper Extremity, Samah Gassass

WUSM Theses and Dissertations – All Programs

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) in the upper extremity results in significant sensorimotor impairment. Nearly 40-50% of patients affected by PNI fail to restore normal hand and arm function and recovery remains variable. Recovery related cortical plasticity is recognized as an important factor, though its relationship to meaningful outcomes remains unclear. This dissertation examined how cortical activity patterns relate to functional recovery after PNI through a systematic review and three subsequent cross-sectional studies.

The systematic review of multimodal neuroimaging studies on cortical plasticity after upper extremity nerve transfer found that good recovery is generally linked to restoration of contralateral or typical …

Characterization Of Zdhhc Palmitoyltransferase Expression During Retinoic Acid-Induced Differentiation Of Sh-Sy5y Neuroblastoma Cells, Mohammad Abdallah Matari

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Protein S-Palmitoylation is a reversible post-translational modification that regulates protein trafficking, membrane localization, and neuronal function through the activity of the zinc finger Asp-His-His-Cys (zDHHC) family of palmitoyl acyltransferases. Although SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells are widely used as an in vitro model of neuronal differentiation, the expression profile of the complete zDHHC family during retinoic acid (RA)-induced differentiation has not been systematically characterized. The objective of this study was to characterize the expression of all 23 human zDHHC genes during RA induced differentiation of SH-SY5Y cells. SH-SY5Y cells were differentiated using 10 µM all-trans retinoic acid for up to seven days. …

Hybrid Reaction Bridge, Hp Inc Aug 2026

Hybrid Reaction Bridge, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

Hybrid meeting platforms give remote attendees structured side-channel mechanisms—virtual hand raises, emoji reactions, poll responses—that are entirely absent for in-room participants, whose non-verbal behaviour remains visible only inside the physical room. This paper describes a bridging system that observes in-room participants through a shared room camera, detects a defined vocabulary of natural non-verbal signals (nodding, head-shaking, raised hands, and postural cues), and translates each qualified signal into a corresponding structured reaction event within the conferencing platform’s existing reaction model. The result is a unified reaction channel in which in-room and remote participants are represented with equivalent expressive bandwidth, without requiring …

Zineth, Colin Wilcox Aug 2026

Zineth, Colin Wilcox

Theses

This thesis asks whether a brand can generate real engagement without surrendering to an algorithm, and whether web design can recover the color, mystery, and sense of discovery it traded away as the internet corporatized. Daily internet use has risen every year on record, yet the spaces users inhabit have flattened into grey buttons and endless feeds. This question is answered through Zineth, a hybrid brand universe told across three coordinated forms: a Risograph-printed zine, a dense and layered website, and limited clothing drops. The zine operates as a key. Codes printed in its pages unlock gated areas of the …

The N-Terminal, Wd40, And C-Terminal Domains Of Wdr-31 Control Ciliary Localization And Cooperate With Elmod/Rp2 Gaps To Maintain Membrane Compartmentalization, Sebi̇ha Çevi̇k, Fatma Güzel Aug 2026

The N-Terminal, Wd40, And C-Terminal Domains Of Wdr-31 Control Ciliary Localization And Cooperate With Elmod/Rp2 Gaps To Maintain Membrane Compartmentalization, Sebi̇ha Çevi̇k, Fatma Güzel

Turkish Journal of Biology

Background/aim: WD40 repeats are found in many ciliary proteins. Although the WD40 repeat-containing WD repeat-containing protein 31 (WDR-31) is known to regulate ciliary protein trafficking and morphology, the specific contributions of its N-terminal, WD40, and C-terminal domains to protein localization and ciliary gate integrity remain unclear. Aim of this study is to dissect the functional roles of WDR-31 domains by investigating their contributions to ciliary localization, ciliary protein trafficking, and gate integrity.

Materials and methods: Using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, we generated Caenorhabditis elegans strains with in-frame deletions that removed the N-terminus (WDR-31(ΔN)), WD40 (WDR-31(ΔWD)), and C-terminus (WDR-31(ΔC)). We next examined the …
