The Impact Of An Immunization Training Certificate Program On The Perceived Knowledge, Skills And Attitudes Of Pharmacy Students Toward Pharmacy-Based Immunizations, Zachary A. Marcum, Carrie M. Maffeo, Iftekhar Kalsekar Jan 2010

The Impact Of An Immunization Training Certificate Program On The Perceived Knowledge, Skills And Attitudes Of Pharmacy Students Toward Pharmacy-Based Immunizations, Zachary A. Marcum, Carrie M. Maffeo, Iftekhar Kalsekar

Scholarship and Professional Work – COPHS

Objective: To assess the impact of a national immunization training certificate program on the perceived knowledge, skills and attitudes of pharmacy students toward pharmacy-based immunizations.

Methods: The study design utilized a pre- and post- survey administered to pharmacy students before and after the American Pharmacists Association’s (APhA) Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery program. The primary outcome explored was a change in the perceived knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the pharmacy students. A five-point Likert scale (i.e. strongly agree = 5, strongly disagree = 1) was used for measuring the main outcomes, which was summated by adding the individual item scores in each …

Performance Dashboards In The United States Government, Devin Barnas Jan 2010

Performance Dashboards In The United States Government, Devin Barnas

Honors Capstones

In this paper, I examine the usage and effectiveness of performance dashboards within United States Government agencies. I gather initial research on performance dashboards used within for-profit entities as well as not-for-profit entities, including governmental establishments, and use this information to develop criteria for an ideal dashboard. I then evaluate dashboards currently in use and available to the public by government entities based on my criteria for an adequate dashboard. I predict that states, organizations, programs, and entities with higher funding and larger size will receive a higher grade for their respective dashboards which will result in a correlation between …

Utilitarian Information Works - Is Originality The Proper Lens?, Dana Beldiman Jan 2010

Utilitarian Information Works - Is Originality The Proper Lens?, Dana Beldiman

Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review

As the information society advances, vastly increased numbers of utilitarian information works (UIW) are being produced. In general, these works are deemed protected by copyright law, even though the philosophical underpinnings of copyright law clash with the attributes of UIW. This Article examines the cause for the uneasy relationship between UIW and the concept of originality. Part I discusses the role of information and UIW as one of the core wealth-producing assets of the knowledge-based economy. This economy is characterized by a rapid pace of innovation, which in turn, requires unrestricted access to information. Part II examines copyright law as …

Emerging Scholars Series: A Re-Examination Of The Original Foundations Of Anglo-American Trademark Law, Cesar Ramirez-Montes Jan 2010

Emerging Scholars Series: A Re-Examination Of The Original Foundations Of Anglo-American Trademark Law, Cesar Ramirez-Montes

Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review

Contemporary accounts of the normative basis of Anglo-American trademark law frequently describe the purpose of the legal doctrine as having developed to protect primarily the consumers from being misled. Recently, some commentators have offered a different account of the law, as having developed to protect mainly the interests of the traders in not having their trade diverted. Under this account, early trademark law served one master only, the producer, with any additional benefit or protection to consumers being unintended. In this Article, the Author challenges both accounts and suggest that early trademark law was not driven by any judicial desire …

Sputum Neutrophils As A Biomarker In Copd: Findings From The Eclipse Study, Dave Singh, Lisa Edwards, Ruth Tal-Singer, Stephen I. Rennard Jan 2010

Sputum Neutrophils As A Biomarker In Copd: Findings From The Eclipse Study, Dave Singh, Lisa Edwards, Ruth Tal-Singer, Stephen I. Rennard

Journal Articles: Pulmonary & Critical Care Med

INTRODUCTION: The percentage of neutrophils in sputum are increased in COPD patients, and may therefore be a biomarker of airway inflammation. We studied the relationships between sputum neutrophils and FEV1, health status, exacerbation rates, systemic inflammation and emphysema, and long term variability at 1 year.

METHODS: Sputum samples were obtained from 488 COPD patients within the ECLIPSE cohort. 359 samples were obtained at baseline, and 297 after 1 year. 168 subjects provided samples at both visits. Serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8, surfactant protein D and C-reactive protein levels were measured by immunoassays. Low-dose CT scans evaluated emphysema.

RESULTS: Sputum neutrophil % …

The “Visual Griots” Of Mali: Nation Building And Cultural Negotiation With Youth Outreach Photography, Jennifer Elizabeth Orpana Jan 2010

The “Visual Griots” Of Mali: Nation Building And Cultural Negotiation With Youth Outreach Photography, Jennifer Elizabeth Orpana

Digitized Theses

This thesis examines the “Visual Griots” project, a youth outreach initiative that produced photographs which were exhibited in Mali and the United States and were surrounded by polemics of “photographic truth” and “power.” Recognizing this Contextualization as a common strategy for many youth photography exhibitions, this thesis examines the “Visual Griots” case study to offer a critical investigation of the relationships between “youth photography” and concepts of “authenticity” and “power.” The first chapter examines the historiography of the “Visual Griots” project to demonstrate that the photographs participated in traditions of using photography and youth culture in nation-building and cultural diplomacy …

American Airpower In The 21st Century: Reconciling Strategic Imperatives With Economic Realities, Charles J. Dunlap Jr.

Faculty Scholarship

“Vexing” is certainly the right word to describe the state of resource allocation in the national security community. Despite still sizable defense budgets, serious economic constraints combine with a wide range of complicated threats to create extremely difficult choices for policy makers. To help them work through the decision-making process, Congress mandates Quadrennial Defense Reviews (QDRs). QDRs “are intended to guide the services in making resource allocation decisions when developing future budgets.” The 2010 QDR rightly insists that “America’s interests and role in the world require armed forces with unmatched capabilities.”6 Recent resource decisions, however, do not provide much comfort …

Spring 2009 Potentiometric Map Of The Middle Trinity Aquifer In Groundwater Management Area 9, Central Texas Bseacd Report Of Investigations 2010-0501, Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District

KIP Data Sets and Technical Reports

INTRODUCTION The Trinity Aquifer is the primary groundwater source for a variety of needs throughout the Texas Hill Country. Groundwater Management Area 9 (GMA-9) is composed of nine Groundwater Conservation Districts (GCDs) within the Texas Hill Country that are tasked with managing groundwater resources. Recent State law requires Districts to periodically meet to discuss the future availability of groundwater within the aquifers of GMA-9. Increasing water-supply demands have raised concerns about the availability of groundwater in the Texas Hill Country. In particular, the Middle Trinity Aquifer is the primary aquifer for water-supply needs. At an early 2009 GMA-9 meeting, it …
