Slavery And Stratification, Lee Andrew Irving Jan 1971

Slavery And Stratification, Lee Andrew Irving

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

My own experience as an American have led to questions concerning stratification of Negroes by Whites and Negroes by Negroes. What, if any, is the history behind these social distinctions, based primarily on variables such as race and skin-color gradations?

Evidence as to achievements by people representing all races and skin-color gradations is more available today than say, during slavery, because of better opportunities for all citizens of this country to become informed vis the mass media. What is there in history that lends basis to these ridiculous myths based on race and skin-color gradations? Could the institution of slavery …

The Response Of The United States To Fascism In Latin America 1933-1943, Robert C. Rasmussen Jan 1970

The Response Of The United States To Fascism In Latin America 1933-1943, Robert C. Rasmussen

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

The conflict between the totalitarian forces of fascism and the democracies was not confined to just the battlefields of Western Europe or the beaches of the South Pacific. Between 1933 and 1943 the forces of these two conflicting ideologies were engaged in a struggle to win the confidence of the people of Latin America. The success that the United States ultimately had in winning the trust and support of the Latin America nations bolstered the morale of America while at the same time denying the Nazis an important strategic and propaganda triumph.

In this study the activities of the Nazis …

George Romney In 1968, From Front-Runner To Drop-Out, An Analysis Of Cause, Richard M. Eyre Jan 1969

George Romney In 1968, From Front-Runner To Drop-Out, An Analysis Of Cause, Richard M. Eyre

Theses and Dissertations

The meteoric political decline of George Romney is unparalleled in political history and in the history of presidential campaigning. In the space of one year, the man evolved from the overwhelming presidential favorite of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike to a presidential drop out, criticized severely and even mocked by press and public alike.

There are many opinions as to why this phenomenon occurred. The press has opinions, the public has opinions, and the people closest to George Romney have opinions.

A step by step analysis of Romney's campaign casts light on these opinions and completely discredits some while validating …

Application Of Location Theory And Empirical Data By Area Industrial Development Groups, Clarence Arthur Middleton Jr.

Master's Theses

The objective of this paper is to determine if theories of industrial location and empirical data describing changes in manufacturing employment might suggest efficient approaches in attracting industry to a particular area. An Improved System Of Cost Control And Budgeting By Product, For A Specialty Paper Mill, Linwood Douglas Hogge Apr 1961

An Improved System Of Cost Control And Budgeting By Product, For A Specialty Paper Mill, Linwood Douglas Hogge

Master's Theses

The large kraft and newsprint mills dominate the paper industry, by the sheer enormity of their size and production. The paper industry is a major growth segment of our nation's industry in all its aspects, however, and the specialty mills and their products continue to grow proportionately with the industry. Fllters, gaskets, and saturated products, once the sole property of leather, rubber and more sophisticated materials, are predominately made of high grade paper products. To further increase their use we must find more and better ways to reduce and control these costs -- It is hoped that we have contributed …

A Study Of Early Utah-Montana Trade, Transportation, And Communication, 1847-1881, L. Kay Edrington Jan 1959

A Study Of Early Utah-Montana Trade, Transportation, And Communication, 1847-1881, L. Kay Edrington

Theses and Dissertations

Only a few hardy men had ventured into America's intermountain west prior to the year 1847. Arriving in this year, the Mormons, under Brigham Young, slowly conquered parts of the Great Basin and within a few years had produced a self-sustaining agricultural economy. production of a surplus in farm products awaited only the emergence of a "foreign" market. This market was soon forthcoming.

The developing process of Utah-Montana relations from 1847 through 1881 was a natural occurance. From the very first, men from Utah traveled northward. The Mormon experiment at Ft. Lemhi during the late 1850's was a prime example …

An Analysis Of Instalment Credit Within Commercial Banks, Wayne Atwell Freeland Apr 1958

An Analysis Of Instalment Credit Within Commercial Banks, Wayne Atwell Freeland

Master's Theses

Within the past two decades, the rapid expansion of consumer installment credit activity by commercial banking has been a noteworthy development. Commercial bankers have made an about face in a brief period of financial history. As recently as the early 1930's the attitude of commercial bankers toward installment credit was one of hesitance and reluctance. Since that period commercial banks have expanded to become the largest single holder of installment credit.

The primary purpose of this thesis is to review and evaluate the principles, methods and procedures used in the investigation and credit decision of consumer instalment credit as established …

Foreign Personal Representatives, Banks Mcdowell Jr. Jan 1957

Foreign Personal Representatives, Banks Mcdowell Jr.

Michigan Legal Studies Series

In dealing with the legal rules affecting foreign personal representatives, the author of the present monograph is to be commended for the lucid analysis in the following pages of the principal questions that an executor or administrator appointed in one state will encounter in the administration of a single estate on a multi-jurisdictional basis: his right to sue and liability to suit in other states, the effects of his extra-legal action outside the state of his appointment, and the possibilities of reforming existing laws so as to make feasible a system of single administration of decedents' estates. This analysis is …
