The Development Of A Course Of Study In Fda Drug Regulatory Procedures, Robin Adele Wills Jan 1975

The Development Of A Course Of Study In Fda Drug Regulatory Procedures, Robin Adele Wills

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It is the purpose of this thesis to develop a course of study for pharmacy schools on drug regulation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A summarization of the history of the development of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and of pharmacy education reveals a lack of interface between the two. The necessity for the interface of pharmacy education and the agency which has significant control over the products forming the basis of the pharmacy profession will be made apparent. A period of residency through which the course of study on drug regulation by the FDA was to …

The United States Supreme Court And The Protection Of Individual Privacy, Elizabeth P. Martin Aug 1974

The United States Supreme Court And The Protection Of Individual Privacy, Elizabeth P. Martin

Master's Theses

The central thesis of this study is that the Supreme Court, after a half-century of incrementally developing "zones" of privacy protection through the various guaran tees in the Bill of Rights, has arrived at a distinct, inde pendent "right of privacy" with the potentiality of pro tecting privacy in a broad range of situations. The Court has, at least since its Griswold decision in 1965, been developing a substantive, due process right to privacy in the areas of marriage, family, conception, and abortion. Although the privacy right's perimeters have yet to be determined, its new "substantive" nature lends itself to …

Environmental Problem: An Economic Viewpoint And Humanistic Solution, Michael Robert Currie May 1974

Environmental Problem: An Economic Viewpoint And Humanistic Solution, Michael Robert Currie

Senior Scholar Papers

Economics deals with wealth, which is essential in allowing people to maintain their activities. Wealth is produced by human effort, guided by science, mediated by technology, governed by the economic system, and exerted through the environment . That a problem exists in our environment is clear from the observable stress on our natural ecosystems. Our water has been fouled, Lake Erie is dead, our air has been sufficiently poisoned in many urban areas to be classified as dangerous to health, and in general there exists the threat that the natural systems which support our lives may collapse. Although certain statistics, …

Osha's Impact On Industry, Paul Christ Noller

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

On December 29, 1970, the President signed into law the Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970, which became effective April 28, 1971. The purpose of this act is to assure safe and healthful working conditions for the nation's wage earners. The law provides that each employer has the basic duty to furnish his employees a place of employment which is safe from recognized hazards that cause death or serious physical harm. The implementation of the OSHA Act has been the most extensive intervention into the day-to-day operation of American Industry in history. Originally, employers expressed doubt that …

The Marshall Mission Of 1946 American Intervention In The Chinese Civil War, Laren W. Metzer

All Master's Theses

The thesis traces the development of the Marshall mission from its inception in late 1945 to its failure in late 1946. Concentrating on Chinese internal affairs, the thesis examines the reaction of the Nationalists and Communists to mediation, and reveals the sources of failure of American policy. The concluding chapter views American China policy within the context of the civil war and suggests that the mission was incapable of altering the historical processes of the Chinese revolution.

Controlling Great Lakes Pollution: A Study In United States-Canadian Environmental Cooperation, Richard B. Bilder Jan 1972

Controlling Great Lakes Pollution: A Study In United States-Canadian Environmental Cooperation, Richard B. Bilder

Michigan Law Review

In this context, a study of the proposed Agreement and, more particularly, of the long history of developing United States-Canadian cooperation that preceded it may be of use. First, this United States-Canadian experience offers guidance for the solution of some of the specific problems that programs for international environmental cooperation may face: questions of framework and approach; institutional organization, function, and authority; determination of objectives; apportionment of burdens; coordination; and implementation. Second, at a time when international discussion has focused principally on global approaches to the solution of environmental problems, it calls attention to the important, if less dramatic, contribution …
