Making Strides: Students Tackle The Landmine Awareness Problem, Virginia Saulnier
Making Strides: Students Tackle The Landmine Awareness Problem, Virginia Saulnier
The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction
Extending beyond the normal boundaries of education, a growing number of educators are widening their students’ knowledge base to include the landmine crisis plaguing multiple countries, thereby raising the global consciousness of this humanitarian problem. Commendably, students around the world are assuming an active role in the crisis, aware of the potential damage waiting to strike at the heart of their generation, as landmines and UXO annually claim numerous children as victims. Teachers, employing accepted pedagogical techniques, are educating their students about the devastation inflicted by mines and UXO by introducing them to landmine oriented magazines and literature. Teacher Mark …

Laboratories Teaching Concepts In Microcontrollers And Hardware-Software Co-Design, Daryl G. Beetner, Hardy J. Pottinger, Kyle Mitchell
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Hardware software co-design is becoming increasingly important to the embedded systems industry. It will soon be fundamental to digital systems design. As such, students in electrical and computer engineering and in computer science should be introduced to hardware-software co-design early in their undergraduate education.
We are designing laboratory modules which introduce concepts of hardware-software co-design in an undergraduate's first course on microcontrollers and digital systems design. Students use design automation tools to develop FPGA-based hardware for use with an 8051-microcontroller and use common software development tools to develop microcontroller software in C or assembly language. Co-simulation of hardware and software …

A Perception Of The Software Process Model, Albert H. S. Scott
A Perception Of The Software Process Model, Albert H. S. Scott
International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference
A student's perception of a software development process model appears to be a series of milestones when documentation is produced to satisfy academic requirements. Certain academic and industrial practices may influence students to place more emphasis on the software product than the process model. The proposal presented is to establish a more structured approach to project supervision to ensure a student performs quality planning, which includes the identification of appropriate software product quality attributes. Such an approach may ensure that sufficient attention is given to the software development process model to ensure that desired software product quality attributes are achieved.

Mechatronics Education At Kettering University: Development Of Learning- Specific Hardware And Software, Jeffrey Hargrove, Theodore J. Stokes
Mechatronics Education At Kettering University: Development Of Learning- Specific Hardware And Software, Jeffrey Hargrove, Theodore J. Stokes
Mechanical Engineering Presentations And Conference Materials
A series of learning-specific electronic circuit boards and associated software has been developed to support mechatronics education in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kettering University. The boards are designed to interface to the Toshiba TLCS-900H Microprocessor Trainer and Evaluation Board. The purpose of these boards is to provide mechanical engineering students of mechatronics with robust hardware that readily permits interfacing of sensors and actuators to microcontrollers used in mechatronic applications. Further, the boards feature signal conditioning circuits for use in conjunction with sensors, and driver circuits for operating high-current actuating devices. Supporting software has been written to permit ready use …
