This fact sheet compares enrollment, graduation, and earnings data for men and women that enrolled in the seven institutions of higher learning in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) between 1993 and 2023. This fact sheet further focuses on how male enrollment and graduation shares have changed with time. The data are derived from the American Institute for Boys and Men (AIBM) report, “Men in higher education: A national data tool,” which includes data for all fifty U.S. states and the District of Columbia. This fact sheet focuses on institution-level data for seven public NSHE institutions: the University of …

Feeling At Home In The Basic Communication Course: A Qualitative Case Study Of Faculty And Student Perceptions Of A Connected Classroom Climate At One Midwestern University, Cynthia Grobmeier
Basic Communication Course Annual
The concept of a connected classroom climate considers that peer-to-peer interaction, not just instructor-student interaction, contributes to a sense of community in the classroom that can impact student outcomes. This qualitative case study considers both student and instructor perceptions of what contributes to that sense of connection in the classroom at a mid-size, four-year, Hispanic-serving university. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews and member checks with students and instructors who engaged in the first-year basic communication course during the Spring 2022 semester. Four themes emerged in this study: a) the communication classroom is uniquely positioned to create a sense of …

Alarming numbers of university design students are experiencing significant issues related to their mental health and wellbeing. While the conditions affecting their mental health are systemic, universities play a key role in addressing academic related factors. This paper aims to better understand the stressors impacting design students’ wellbeing and identify strategies for addressing them. It reviews general academic and design-specific stressors highlighted in the literature. Drawing from a small sample of European design schools, the paper also shares promising practices for addressing these stressors. Kick-starting cross-institutional sharing, it offers a starting point for further collective efforts to improve student wellbeing.

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders
Purpose: Although practicing school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) report that most of their training in language sample analysis (LSA) comes during their educational program, SLP students’ experiences with LSA in their training program have not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to gather information on the LSA use, methods, and contexts in addition to perceived knowledge and skills of speech-language pathology undergraduate and graduate students.
Method: Undergraduate and graduate students studying speech-language pathology responded to an invitation to complete an online survey related to LSA knowledge and experiences.
Results: Results indicated that most students gain experience with LSA …

Engaging Students In Materials Engineering Through A Marble-Based Property Ranking Game, Nathan Cloughley, Alyssa Felix
Engaging Students In Materials Engineering Through A Marble-Based Property Ranking Game, Nathan Cloughley, Alyssa Felix
College of Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Program
This SURP proposal is centered on the design and development of a Materials Marbles Game, an educational tool designed to introduce students to materials science and materials selection through tactile interaction and hands-on experimentation. The game will incorporate measurement of key material properties—such as mechanical, thermal, electrical, and mass density—using spherical marbles made from different materials. These measurements will then be used to construct a physical Material Property Chart (Ashby-Cebon plot) on a game board, fostering a hands-on, embodied understanding of how different materials behave. The game will also illustrate the thought process behind materials selection, a critical aspect of …

This research aims to determine the relationship between screen time and physical activity on adolescent students' cardio-respiratory endurance (VO2max). This research used observational analysis with a cross-sectional study involving 70 teenage students at an Information and Network Technology Vocational School consisting of male and female teenage students. The Screen Time of Adolescents (QUEST) questionnaire was used to assess screen time, the physical activity instrument used the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ v2.0) to assess physical activity levels, and the VO2max instrument used the 20-meter Multistage Fitness Test (MFT). The Power A Generation Holds: A Study On Students Generating Change In American Social Movements, Caroline E. Koziol
Dartmouth College Master’s Theses
Social activism ebbs and flows throughout American history. In the contemporary period, high visual coverage of activism has contributed to frustrations over the apparent decrease in change despite perceptions of increased participation. Young activists in the classroom ask questions to learn from their predecessors. This paper focuses on answering, “How can students create sustained change through social activism?” The present work recenters activism in the role of students and higher education institutions, noting their potential for creating change through a formula for future activists to engage with. The proposed formula targets methods and theories to bolster success towards the cause …

Purpose: Successful implementation of school sexual health curricula relies on students receiving sufficient exposure to lesson content. This large replication study assesses the longitudinal association between exposure to sexual health lesson frequency and content domains and delayed sexual initiation of middle school students.
Methods: Post hoc data analysis was conducted using a large harmonized dataset from 3 randomized controlled trials evaluating It's Your Game curricula in the South Central United States. The sample comprised 1,022 sexually inexperienced middle school students (grades 7 and 8) who completed grade 9 follow-up after using either a 24-lesson hybrid (classroom and computer-based) (It's Your …

Spatial Habits Advance Personal Excellence: Examining School Environments And Student Well-Being, Megan L. Jester, Dawn Loraas, Cian L. Brown, Madelynn Henderson
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Schools are increasingly becoming the primary access point for health services for students, as families turn to schools to identify and address growing whole health needs. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, over 70% of children received mental health services solely through their schools (Kaskoun & McCabe, 2022). The built environment is a social and structural determinant (World Health Organization, 2010) influencing educational outcomes (Ikegbusi et al., 2022) including the readiness to learn (Colvin, 2024). Still, many schools lack the design necessary to support mental and physical health. There is limited nurse-driven research on how physical attributes impact students during critical transition …

TOEFL Prediction is widely used in Indonesian higher education as a preparatory tool, yet students’ perceptions of the TOEFL test remain rarely explored. This qualitative case study involved ten English Education students (batch 2021) at UIN Datokarama Palu. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Four indicators emerged: readiness and confidence, test-taking experience, motivation, and perceived fairness. Students valued TOEFL Prediction as a diagnostic tool, but faced challenges such as anxiety, technical issues, and limited vocabulary. TOEFL Prediction functions both as formative assessment and a motivational catalyst for learning.

School Nurses’ Role In Screening, Brief Intervention, And Referral To Treatment For Mental Health, Andrea Lynn Tanner, Claire Burke Draucker
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
In a 2023 United States survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 40% of high school students reported symptoms of depression, and 10% reported an attempted suicide.1 For students experiencing mental health symptoms, school nurses are ideally positioned to identify and respond to them.2 However, few school nurses employ a comprehensive intervention strategy that includes all three components of SBIRT: 1) screening for mental health concerns, 2) in-the-moment brief intervention, and 3) referral to mental health treatment if warranted.2-4 The purpose of this study was to describe how school nurses perceive their role in addressing …
