NSU Convocation Programs

After dedicating 26 years of his life to the creation of Nova University — 22 of them as president — Dr. Abraham S. Fischler stepped down from Nova University, having served since 1970. But his inspiration and guidance date from 1966, the year he joined the University as dean of graduate studies.

Dr. Fischler's commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and educational excellence is evident from his distinguished career, which includes professorships at the University of California at Berkeley and the Graduate School of Education of Harvard University. He also has taught science at the secondary school level.

The Relationship Between Students' Evaluation Of Faculty And Students' Grades, Eun-Hee Shin

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The study examined (a) the relationship between the grade students expect to receive and their evaluation rating, (b) the relationship between students' prior cumulative GPA and their evaluation rating, and (c) to what extent do other variables account for the relationship between grade and evaluation rating.

The present study found a significant, consistent relationship between students' expected grades and their evaluation ratings of professor. The relationship between students' cumulative GPA and ratings is negligible and should not be considered an important score of bias. The implication of this study is that great caution should be exercised when using such ratings …

To provide insight into adult university ESL students' perspectives of dialogue journal writing and of their changing views of themselves as writers, a fifteen-week multiple case study was conducted, with student interviews and dialogue journal entries providing the primary sources of data. Grounded in social interactionism and cognitivism, and viewed from the perspectives of the students, this study attempted to add to the growing body of research about dialogue journal writing with speakers of English as a second language; Six ESL students representing five different cultures and ranging in age from 18 to 33 participated in the study. Problem

Learning style has been studied extensively across the United States since the early 1970s. Much research has involved Rita and Kenneth Dunns' model and associated Learning Style Inventory. In 1991, Robert Zenhausern developed the Homework Disc software program which correlates with the Dunns' work and yields learning style prescriptions for students. The use of these study strategies at the elementary level has not been broadly examined. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of prescriptions on spelling achievement of fifth-grade students.

Method

A total of 65 students (33 males, 32 females) in three intact groups participated in this study. The …

This practicum addressed the problem that school clinicians were unaware of the variety of behavior rating scales that help In the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and other disorders that often coexist. The writer's goal was to provide a process to Introduce behavior rating scales to 73 school clinicians from 21 school districts to aid in identifying ADD/ADHO children and differentiate coexisting disorders.

The purposes of this research project were to (1) develop a computer keyboarding seminar for personnel with units of the U.S. Army in Europe, (2) validate that seminar, and (3) develop plans for implementation and evaluation. The need for such a program was evident, as Army units in Europe must arrange local training for many personnel who use computers but who have never been trained because formal training courses have not been modified to include computer keyboarding.
