Student Described Importance Of Nurse Educator Caring Actions In Various Class Settings, Jessica Leiberg
Student Described Importance Of Nurse Educator Caring Actions In Various Class Settings, Jessica Leiberg
Dissertations (1934 -)
Caring pedagogy is a well-known and proven nurse educator instructional approach resulting in improved student attrition, enhanced attitude towards the students’ nursing program, and a caring approach extending into professional practice. Despite much research and development of nurse educator caring actions, the possible effect of different class settings on the student perception of these nurse educator caring actions is unknown. The purpose of this study aimed to identify how students’ rate and rank order the importance of nurse educator caring actions within the different class settings. A descriptive quantitative design was conducted to explore student perceptions of the importance of …

Efficacy Of Interprofessional Events In Stimulating A Conducive Environment, Elvia D. Palomarez, Maria Camila Gonzalez Tovar, Stephen Michael Garcia
Efficacy Of Interprofessional Events In Stimulating A Conducive Environment, Elvia D. Palomarez, Maria Camila Gonzalez Tovar, Stephen Michael Garcia
Research Symposium
Background: While attending healthcare programs at UTRGV, students participate in interprofessional events multiple times a year, which involve medical cases, and faculty members oversee the student groups. This gave us the idea to create an event that would bring students from healthcare professions together. The idea was to help students get to know each other better and facilitate healthy relationships in the future as we work alongside one another. We decided to make the event a softball tournament because the sport was highly accessible to students from each professional school and is widely co-ed. Additionally, we wanted to create a …

Problem: High-stakes multiple-choice question (MCQ) exams in medical education typically focus on assessment of learning at a single point without providing feedback for improvement. Educators can achieve a more balanced approach to MCQ exams by combining efficient assessment of learning with the feedback and improvement opportunities of assessment for learning.
Approach: As part of a curriculum renewal at Baylor College of Medicine's MD program, the Two-Phase Individual Assessment (TPIA) model was launched within a 4-week preclinical Foundations of Medicine course in August 2023. The TPIA model featured weekly assessments, each consisting of 2 MCQ exams given on the same day …

Mental Health Disparities By Race/Ethnicity In Elementary School Populations, Tracy Reimer, Alyssa Kim Bartosh Dr.
Day of Scholarship
The study aimed to better understand elementary students’ mental health and well-being before and after the COVID-19 pandemic as well as whether there are differences in elementary students’ self-reported mental health between racial groups. Minnesota Student Survey results were analyzed, and the results of Bonferroni post-hoc tests found significant differences in worrying a lot and feeling sad between racial groups. Hispanic or Latino/Latina students are significantly more likely to worry a lot than all other racial/ethnic groups. Black, African, or African American students are significantly less likely to feel sad than all other racial/ethnic groups except White students. Elementary students’ …

Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine Faculty Papers
INTRODUCTION: Pulmonopoly is an innovative active-learning medical board game addressses core pulmonary concepts in an engaging, competitive style. The strength of Pulmonopoly lies in its ability to combine ease of setup and play with comprehensive content coverage that comprises a significant proportion of national board examinations, offering a gamification experience that can be readily applied in different settings and modified for learner levels.
METHODS: We created an instructional game, Pulmonopoly, based on pulmonary content delivered to preclinical medical students and required for national board examinations. We invited first-year medical students to participate in 60-minute small-group sessions. Content addressed pulmonary subject …

Sense Of Belonging Among Nontraditional Undergraduate Students, Julie Ann Sánchez Golden
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study, viewed through a constructivist lens, was conducted with 16 nontraditional undergraduate students, comprising equal numbers from a two-year and a four-year higher education institution. The study delved into their perceptions of belonging, while exploring the commonalities and disparities of their experiences between the two types of institutions. Through semi-structured interviews, these participants shared their lived experiences to answer three research questions: 1) How do nontraditional undergraduate students at two-year and four-year higher education institutions describe their sense of belonging? 2) What influences their sense of belonging at these institutions, and 3) How does sense of belonging among …

The Effects Of The Devaluation Of The Egyptian Pound On Auc Student Happiness, Mariam Kharboush, Nour Dabbour, Nelly Abdelwahed, Nour Heikal
The Undergraduate Research Journal
The aim of this research is to investigate the difference in measured happiness between students who pay the full tuition cost at the American University in Cairo (AUC) versus students who are on financial aid/scholarship in light of the devaluation of the Egyptian Pound. The literature review found that there are five key determinants for the happiness of university students: financial satisfaction, academic performance, leisure time, social support, and high levels of self-confidence and esteem. These five factors were used in the conceptual framework along with the utility theory. This study was executed through an online Google Forms survey that …
