Chaucer's Sense Of An Ending, Colleen Donnelly Jan 1990

Chaucer's Sense Of An Ending, Colleen Donnelly

Quidditas

The problem of closure plagued Chaucer throughout his career, and critics have continued to point out his 'inability" to end or finish many of his poems. This lack of closure often frustrates the casual reader and perplexes the serious scholar, leaving both to wonder if Chaucer was incapable of bringing his poems to an end or if he simply intended to tease his audience with such inconclusiveness. Neither answer is quite satisfactory. Teller's First And Last Visits To Sigmund Freud, Ken Frieden Jan 1990

Teller's First And Last Visits To Sigmund Freud, Ken Frieden

Religion - All Scholarship

During the 1930's, as a young Yiddish poet in New York, Yehuda
Leyb Teller produced some of the memorab1e pre-war poetry of his generation.
Like the introspectivist writers who inspired him, Teller was increasingly aware of politica1 deve10pments in Europe. The
poetic cyc1e entit1ed "Psychoana1ysis," one of Teller's most outstanding
accomp1ishments, fuses real and imaginary dimensions. Two
of the six "Psychoana1ysis" poems confront Sigmund Freud and the
situation of the European Jews.

Playing With Poetry: Lessons Utilizing Creative Drama Techniques To Teach Poetry To Senior High School Students, John Brooks Lawton

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Although much has been written on the ways drama can be used in the English classroom, little has focused on the teaching of poetry using dramatic techniques. This paper provides a thirty-lesson creative drama unit for teaching poetry to high school students. The first three chapters introduce creative drama, review current research, and detail the background of the lessons. The bulk of the paper is contained in the fourth chapter, the lessons themselves. The early lessons introduce students to improvisation, poetry writing, spontaneity, and in-class performance. These skills are refined and used in later lessons to teach areas of poetry, …
