A Golden Shovel is a poetic form devised by Terrence Hayes in homage to the African American poet Gwendolyn Brooks, long time poet laureate of Chicago. It is a poem in which the poet takes a line from another poet’s poem (or the entire poem if it is short) and creates a new poem. Two poems by Adam Wolfond, "How" and "Babble About Autism Talks Too Much" (2020) "language" autism differently, questioning the way neurotypicality asserts authority over the meaning and experiences of autistic people. Wolfond is a non-speaking writer who is the first and youngest poet to be published by poets.org. He is a public text-to-speech presenter, collaborator on academic projects, an artist who has previously exhibited in Toronto, Canada and has published two books of poetry with Unrestricted Interest. His interest lies in movement, relation, affect and language.

The Shadow Of Dante In French Renaissance Lyric: Scève's Délie, Alison Baird Lovell

Research in Medieval and Early Modern Culture

This book presents an interpretation of Maurice Scève's lyric sequence Délie, object de plus haulte vertu (Lyon, 1544) in literary relation to the Vita nuova, Commedia, and other works of Dante Alighieri. Dante’s subtle influence on Scève is elucidated in depth for the first time, augmenting the evident allusions in Délie to the Canzoniere of Petrarch (Francesco Petrarca). Scève’s sequence of dense, epigrammatic dizains is considered to be an early example, prior to the Pléiade poets, of French Renaissance imitation of Petrarch's vernacular poetry, in a time when imitatio was an established literary practice, signifying the poet’s …

In the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to read the words of Renée Watson, Jewell Parker-Rhodes, Jacqueline Woodson and Nikki Grimes alongside seventh and eighth graders. Our conversations were grounded in the students’ lives and in stories and poems crafted by Black women. I had the responsibility and honor to select the texts, develop the curriculum and co-create a space with students. This notes from the field article documents the author’s journey to discovering collaborative auto-ethnographic poetry as a powerful pedagogical tool to decolonizing peace education and human rights education. With the ability to disrupt colonized academic knowledge through counter-narratives and ancestral practices, collaborative auto-ethnographic poetry can be practiced as therapy, inquiry, liberation, and validation that strengthens voices in an authentic way—equipping people with the ability to promote peace and social justice.
