Electron-Impact Induced Fine-Structure Transitions In Atomic Oxygen., Balkrishna Ramchandra Tambe
Electron-Impact Induced Fine-Structure Transitions In Atomic Oxygen., Balkrishna Ramchandra Tambe
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Calculations of cross-sections for the excitation of 3 fine structure levels of the ground P state of atomic oxygen by electron-impact in the energy range 500-15000°K are made in the close-coupling approximation. It is shown that above 3000°K, the exact-resonance approximation can be used to obtain quite reliable results. In this range polarization effects can be incorporated by use of pseudostates. The convergence of the close-coupling expansion has been tested by adding more terms belonging to the same configuration as well as pseudo-states. The effect of using a multi-configuration wave function was examined. Results are presented for a two-configuration wave …

Frame Transformations In Electron-Molecule Scattering., Charles Albert Weatherford
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The noniterative integral equation technique is used to solve the linear, ordinary, second-order coupled differential equations that result from a treatment of the electron-molecule scattering problem within the close coupling theory. In order to compensate for truncation of the close-coupling system wavefunction expansion, alternative coordinate reference frames (lab and body) are used to describe the incident electron trajectory. The transformation between the two frames, within the framework of the integral equation quadrature, 1s described and then applied to the scattering problem to calculate pure rotational cross sections, o(6v=O, 6j=2), pure vibrational cross sections, o(v=O l, 6j=O) and simultaneous rotational-vibrational cross …

Magnetic And Thermometric Properties Of Na3[Ce(C7h3no4)3] ·15h2o In The Millikelvin Range, Richard A. Webb, J. C. Wheatley
Faculty Publications
Measurements of the 16-Hz susceptibility of a powdered Na3[Ce(C7H3NO4)3] · 15H2O (CDP) sample, in the shape of a right-circular cylinder with diameter equal to height, have been made as a function of the Johnson noise temperature TJ of a resistor in the range 2 to 20 mK. Pure liquid 3He was used for thermal contact between the CDP and the noise thermometer in a demagnetization cell. The results are compared with similar data for cerium magnesium nitrate (CMN). CDP appears, like CMN, to have an anomalously …

Community And School Involvement In Model Rocketry Instruction Including Suggestions For Efficient Model Rocket Construction, Helen Joyce Frizzell
Community And School Involvement In Model Rocketry Instruction Including Suggestions For Efficient Model Rocket Construction, Helen Joyce Frizzell
All Master's Theses
This paper presents the pilot-study of conducting model rocketry classes for parents and youth leaders as well as students and teachers to broaden involvement in aerospace education. Ideas gleaned from questionnaires, surveys, observations, and the review of literature were used to compile A Handbook of Tins for the Efficient Construction and Use of Model Rockets.
A slide presentation illustrating school and community involvement in model rocketry was also developed.
Recommendations included more model rocketry classes involving students and adults be offered and suggested that an appropriate organization publish and distribute the handbook and slide presentation.
A Kinetic Analysis Of The Iodination Of Pyruvic Acid And Pyruvate Esters, Mohamed M. Fahmi Hegazi
A Kinetic Analysis Of The Iodination Of Pyruvic Acid And Pyruvate Esters, Mohamed M. Fahmi Hegazi
All Master's Theses
In the present work the relative rates of iodination of pyruvic acid and ethyl and methyl pyruvate have been compared at 25.0° C. These studies allow the determination of the respective free energies of activation for these processes. Measurements have also been carried out at various temperatures to determine the enthalpies and entropies of activation for the spontaneous and base catalysed iodinations of these pyruvate systems. The present thesis also includes a comparison of the solvent deuterium isotope effects associated with the spontaneous rate of iodination of pyruvic acid and the alkyl pyruvates. Also, the catalytic rate coefficients associated with …
