Newsletter of the Jussi Björling Societies of the USA & UK
This issue is largely devoted to the recent JBS Conference in Charleston, SC. As you will read, the presenters were as varied as their subjects, and we managed to cover a good deal of ground, both Jussicological and otherwise. Ward Murray has written an evocative and personal narrative, and we are able to accompany that with entertaining pictures thanks to David and Vivienne Hill and Ward himself.

The re is also an article about Joan Baez, one of our honorary advisors. We regret that the Journal Issue that we promised for Spring publication has been delayed : your hardworking volunteer Board and Its Editor simply haven't found time yet to pull together issue #16, scheduled now for mid-October. This Newsletter is your first communication from us since June, when we mailed you a copy of the Bluebell 2-CD set called "Jussi Bjorling - Radames. Alfredo, Romeo" of previously unreleased and rare opera recordings from the Swedish Radio archives, 1934-1951. This Newsletter accompanies the biggest, tardiest issue of our Journal yet produced, in our three years of existence! When Mickey Dove was Editor, she made sure that the Spring issue appeared in March - that remains my goal too, for future issues, but my ambitions for this issue overwhelmed my schedule. We went to press on April 15, then somehow our publisher took 6 weeks to produce this issue! My apologies.

Starting March 11, 2020, the day that Chapman University announced that classes would transition immediately to remote in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Leatherby Libraries dramatically shifted its marketing strategy and the use of social media to communicate with the student body, faculty, staff, and other community member followers. The Leatherby Libraries used social media during the COVID-19 crisis as both a means of communicating urgent messages to its patrons and also as a tool for engaging community members in the absence of traditional
library tours, events, and exhibits.
