Blues music originated in the Deep South where it matured into a recognizable style, known as the country blues. The Concept Of God And Sacred Music Style : An Intercultural Exploration Of Divine Transcendence/Immanence As A Stylistic Determinant For Worship Music With Paradigmatic Implications For The Contemporary Christian Context, Wolfgang Hans Stefani
Dissertations
Problems. The conscious conservation of religious music style in most cultures contrasts with the stylistic pluralism of Western Christian worship music. This study addressed the problem of decision making within the diversity of music available for Christian worship.
Purpose of the Study. The study's purpose was to explore a core aspect of worldview concerning the nature of ultimate reality--the concept of divine transcendence/immanence--as a transcultural determinant of sacred music style. The focus was the music rather than associated lyrics.
Methodology and Sources. This interdisciplinary study followed a philosophical approach to develop a theoretical paradigm. Documentary research from the …

An Instructional Sequence In Music Education Using Vocal And Instrumental Music Of Five World Cultures., Sophronia Lois Thomas
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The music of five non-Western cultures was incorporated in an instructional sequence for elementary grades (K)1-6. Traditional music of the Australian Aborigines and the Akan and Ewe tribes of Ghana, classical music of India, the music of the Indonesian gamelan, and Gagaku music of Japan were examined for the presence of musical concepts, the way each culture handles the concepts that are present, and the interrelationships that exist among the concepts. The music is described in terms of the musical concepts of dynamics, timbre, texture, rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. All of the concepts and their related percepts are organized …

A Descriptive Analysis Of Yakutat Tlingit Musical Style., Dorothy Morrison
Music
Ninety-nine songs from Yakutat, Alaska were analyzed in an effort to determine a musical style of the Gulf Coast Tlingit. Songs were grouped into seven categories from which general trends of style were deduced. Analysis, which was based on the transcriptions of David P. McAllester, included interval distribution, range, tone systems, weighted scales, melodic contour, tempo, duration and rest values, drumming patterns, formal structure, and song length. The transcriptions and data for drumming patterns, formal structure and song length were provided by McAllester in "Under Mount Saint Elias: The History and Culture of the Yakutat Tlingit," by Frederica de Laguna, …
