Naturally-Scientific And Philosophical Views Abu Ali Ibn Sino, Gularam Masharipova

The Light of Islam

The article analyzes the natural-science and philosophical views of Abu Ali Ibn Sino, and also studies the social relations of that period. The scientific heritage of Ibn Sina, representing a rich philosophical system (Kitab ash-shifa, Kitab an-najot, Donishnom) was investigated from the point of view of philosophical knowledge: physics, mathematics, logic and metaphysics. The scientific heritage of Abu Ali Ibn Sina is conventionally divided into 4 groups, that is, natural, philosophical views, literature and medicine. Much attention is paid to philosophy and medicine. In the West, the medical heritage of Avicenna is known from the work of the Canon of …

Exploring The Use Of Assessment For Learning In Mathematics Teaching And Learning: A Case Study Of One Secondary School In Temeke Municipal Dsm, Tanzania, Selemani Said Mdee

Master of Education

This study explored the use of assessment for learning (AfL) in mathematics teaching and learning in one of secondary schools in Temeke Municipal in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. The study was guided by four subsidiary questions which are: to what extent teachers clarify learning intention and share criteria for success to students and what techniques teachers use to elicit evidence of learning. The other questions were, how secondary school learners are activated as an instructional resource for one another during teaching and learning and finally, what are the methods secondary school teachers use to provide feedback that moves learning forward. …

Exploring The Secondary School Students’ Experiences In The Learning Of Logarithms In Form Three Class; A Case Of A Secondary School In Homa Bay County, Kenya., Jared Odhiambo Magero

Master of Education

Mathematics is a core subject in the Kenyan education system, since it is the backbone of STEM and equips the citizens with computational skills as an ingredient for vision 2030. Logarithms as a topic in mathematics is widely used in sciences, calculus and in various careers such as in computer programming, Richter scale for earthquakes and many more. However, many learners still find challenges when tackling logarithms questions in mathematics papers in K.C.S.E. exams. It is against this backdrop that my study explored on the secondary students experiences in the learning of logarithms in form three class; a case of …

Effects Of Cross-Age Tutors With Ebd For Kindergarteners At Risk Of Mathematics Difficulties, Gavin W. Watts, Diane Pedrotty Bryant, Garrett J. Roberts

Special Education Faculty Publications (Archived)

Challenges with numerical proficiency at an early age can lead to substantial gaps in learning and are associated with detrimental long-term outcomes. In addition, students with emotional–behavioral disorders (EBD) can have some of the most challenging behavioral and academic needs to address. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects and collateral outcomes of utilizing cross-age tutors (i.e., older students) with/at risk of EBD to deliver a number line board game intervention to kindergarten students at risk of mathematics disabilities. A multiple baseline design across participants was utilized to evaluate the following research questions: (a) What are the …

Preserving Ideals Of Chemical Reaction Networks, Mark Curiel Oct 2019

Preserving Ideals Of Chemical Reaction Networks, Mark Curiel

Master's Theses

Under the assumption of mass-action kinetics, every chemical reaction network has an associated polynomial dynamical system. Rather than study the dynamics of this system, we shall study the ideal generated by the polynomials in the system called the steady state ideal. In this thesis, we will show that there is a combinatorial way to determine the existence of monomials in the steady state ideal using the underlying structure of the network. This allows us to prove that there is a combinatorial condition that is enough to guarantee the steady state ideal is monomial. We introduce three operations on chemical reaction …

The Effect Of A Blended Learning Instructional Model On The Mathematics Performance Of Sixth And Seventh Grade Students In A Small Northeastern Urban School District, Debra Joseph-Charles Oct 2019

The Effect Of A Blended Learning Instructional Model On The Mathematics Performance Of Sixth And Seventh Grade Students In A Small Northeastern Urban School District, Debra Joseph-Charles

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Closing the achievement gap has been the focus of education reform for decades. Federal educational reform policies No Child Left Behind (2002) and Race to The Top (2009) renewed attention on the achievement gap and the quest to find ways to improve student outcomes. The latter addressed the needs of 21st century learners, and as such, the need to look towards new, innovative ways of addressing students' individual needs. In 2010, in its National Educational Technology Plan, Transforming American Education: Learning Powered by Technology, the USDOE stressed that there needed to be a shift in how students were educated, …

Victoria Dragonjac's Portfolio, Victoria Dragonjac

Honors College Portfolios

This portfolio is a collection of my work throughout my past 4 years in Duquesne University’s School of Education. As a Middle-Level Education major, the following pieces are focused on student inquiry in the main 4 subjects of my certification area: Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and Science in addition to Inclusive Education. It is in my opinion that there has been a major shift in how students are taught in comparison to today from even just 10 years ago. In the past, teachers often resorted to teaching the material to the students without allowing them the opportunity to explore and …

How Different Grouping Methods Can Improve Students’ Mathematical Achievement In An Appropriate Setting, Hyangmee Oh

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Theses and Dissertations

This research is about finding an appropriate grouping method in a classroom to improve students’ mathematical achievement in a small urban public charter school. It is looking for an answer to the question: Can an inquiry-based discourse taught using an ability-grouping method affect 8th grade students’ mathematical achievement as evidenced quantitatively through numerical self- surveys and scored standardized testing?

Each year, a school will have a different demographic with each student’s own unique math abilities. Thus, we need a solution to best and flexibly group students to adapt to each student’s math abilities based on the unique classroom environment. The …
