This paper reviewed interdisciplinary literature using a robust search strategy in three academic databases and Google Scholar, as well as across eight leadership studies journals. Sixteen sources involving 440 leaders’ experiences were found. The author conducted a thematic analysis to explore how TGNC leaders’ experiences challenge …

Psychosocial Well-Being Facilitation Of Leader Identity Transitions For Retirees, Brooke Wells

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

Leadership scholars have worked to advance the knowledge of leader identity—how one views oneself as a leader—across many age groups. However, there is still little known about leader identity in older adults. This study explored how older adults identified as leaders after exiting the workforce and in retirement. The retirement process often indicates a transition in which one plans to navigate life post-workforce. For some, retirement may be a signal of growing older. Social identity theory scholars argue that retirees do not always embrace this aging identity. Individuals’ thoughts regarding aging are complex. For those able to embrace and navigate …

Through an extensive review of existing literature and engaging with Māori experts, I synthesized key insights to …

The researcher evaluated various pastoral evaluation forms across different denominations. Additionally, the researcher investigated the biblical theology of pastoral leadership. The action research project aimed to design a comprehensive, intentional, and biblical pastoral evaluation strategy for a congregation-led …

Few studies to date have investigated leader-centric variables associated with the support provision process. The following dissertation includes three studies that attempt to further understand such relationships. In Study 1, the interaction between leader sleep quantity and quality on various types of leader support (e.g., general supervisor support, family supportive supervisor behaviors, and sleep leadership) is studied using both employee and leader ratings. Goodall describes the book as a chronicle of the “natural experiment” showcasing failures of nonexperts leading various sized groups and organizations, also citing parallel success by expert leaders (p. 1). The book is divided into eight chapters, starting with the introduction and examining the need for experts, the recruitment and development of experts, and finally, the organizational environment to sustain experts. The introduction begins as a corollary to Nichols’ (2024) work regarding how society no longer …

This quantitative study looked at whether leadership behavior affected remote workers’ loneliness, and the intention to quit. An online survey was conducted through LinkedIn sampling 92 adults who worked remotely at least 20 hours per week in the United States. The study found that the leader-member relationship does …

Leadershift Today: Balancing Ego And Altruism, Joan F. Marques

The Journal of Values-Based Leadership

This article addresses a behavioral dichotomy that seems to be a prerequisite in proper leadership performance in today’s world, especially in organizational settings that cultivate a culture of wellness and reciprocal progress. While the involved concepts - ego and altruism - are generally familiar human traits, the need for a shift from one to the other once leadership has been attained, has not been discussed as such before. This article therefore aims to evoke within leaders the awareness of the need to shift their mindset, and therefore their behavior, from ego-driven to collective-focused once elevated into a leadership position. The …

“Trust Us To Teach It ”: Examining The Associations Among Leadership, Organizational Trust, And Well-Being In Educational Settings, Jessica Mckinley

Theses and Dissertations

Today’s educators are experiencing unprecedented levels of stress, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite evidence supporting the protective nature of positive climate, effective leadership, and support for educator autonomy, there is also evidence to suggest that negative climate, ineffective leadership, and lacking autonomy continue to be major stressors for educators at work. This study investigated the relations among educator well-being, transformational and autonomy-supportive leadership styles, and organizational trust through the lens of the educator. Using a cross-sectional, survey-based design, this study examined the relations among these variables, as well as identified the relative contributions of leadership and …

Rising To The Top With Strategic Agency: Exploring Antecedents To Leadership In Women And Men, Britton Victoria-Hicks Peters Jul 2024

Rising To The Top With Strategic Agency: Exploring Antecedents To Leadership In Women And Men, Britton Victoria-Hicks Peters

Theses and Dissertations

In congruence with implicit leadership theory, research shows that individuals value agentic traits in potential leaders more than communal traits. However, traits identified as “preferable” or “more valuable” in leader candidates are not always aligned with traits that are typical of an effective or competent leader. If our industry wants to put effective leadership into practice, we must also know how effective leaders are chosen and encouraged further. Here I have explored one small aspect of this research by looking at gender differences in leader potential and leader effectiveness.

This study investigated the role of self-confidence on leader identification and …

Mitigating Workplace Burnout Through Transformational Leadership And Employee Participation In Recovery Experiences, John Pladdys

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

Burnout is a complex organizational phenomenon that diminishes employee well-being and overall organizational productivity. Researchers propose that leadership style contributes to employees’ well-being, which impacts employee productivity. Organizations and leaders must address the causes of burnout and promote techniques employees can use to mitigate burnout, such as employee participation in recovery experiences. Recovery experiences are non-work activities that create positive outlooks and restore the energy needed to focus on one’s work.

This literature review examines current research in employee recovery experiences, conservation of resource theory (COR), burnout, and transformational leadership theory. Studying burnout through the lens of COR shows how …

What Motivates You?, Mohamad S. Saad Jun 2024

What Motivates You?, Mohamad S. Saad

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine

For over 100 years, we have tried to understand how human motivation works. Although various theories have been developed and different experiments have been conducted to explain motivational drive, we have realized that extrinsic motivation factors, such as rewards and punishment, and financial incentives are not the answers. More important and central to motivation is nourishing our innate human need to be autonomous, competent, and to relate to our organizational culture. All of us need to understand the story of motivation because, as dire as our need for high-quality motivation is, high-quality motivation remains an asymptote.
