Examining Political Ambition: Competition And Leadership In Youth Activities, Ashley Staszak
Examining Political Ambition: Competition And Leadership In Youth Activities, Ashley Staszak
LSU Master's Theses
Significant amounts of previous research focused on political ambition as a source of the gender gap in representation (Beyer and Bowden 1997; Pajares 2002; Fox 2010; Fox and Lawless 2014). This research looks to examine extracurricular activities (or after-school activities) and the effects they have on political ambition of girls as they grow up. Extracurricular activities provide girls access to competition, risk and female role models which can work to combat gender role socialization and other hindrances to running for political office. Using a survey of 300 undergraduate students at a large southern university, I measure the effect of extracurricular …
Sir John Orde And The Trafalgar Campaign—A Failure Of Information Sharing, J. Ross Dancy, Evan Wilson
Sir John Orde And The Trafalgar Campaign—A Failure Of Information Sharing, J. Ross Dancy, Evan Wilson
Naval War College Review
When France’s Toulon Fleet appeared off Cádiz in April 1805, Orde possessed more information about the whereabouts and strength of the Combined Fleet than any other British flag officer, placing immense responsibility on him to share that information widely and quickly. But in this he failed, costing Lord Nelson a good chance of bringing the campaign to a halt six months before Trafalgar, and providing an example of a failure to achieve mission command.

As technology improves, develops, and advances, globalization will become more pronounced for all companies. Considering this technological trend, the virtual structure will likely become more prevalent. This chapter will also present models of leadership and how practical and effective they can be in a virtual platform. From a performance standpoint, employee engagement will be investigated, specifically considering …

This research is conducted by initially looking at imaging politics that operates on aspects of academic qualifications, library accessibility, and institutional governance among three libraries. These institutional images are analyzed through three patterns of imaging politics, i.e. mirror of reality, map of reality, and simulacrum of reality, albeit this last pattern is not found. The second analysis is based on professional culture that functions as a ballacing system. Professional culture in library management shows itself as a referential standard …

Leading For Social Justice: A Call To Action To Improve Society., Teresa L. G. Warner
Journal of Organizational & Educational Leadership
School leaders are required to prepare students for a globally competitive society, and act ethically to facilitate a shared vision of school practices that serve all students equitably. Social justice leadership provided in school and teacher leadership preparation programs is a way to meet the standards for school executives and teachers. The decision to lead for social justice can be made as a result of district mandates while some leaders are motivated by personal experiences. Leaders are distracted from the importance of leading for social justice due to the pressures of accountability testing and the political outcry of the day. …

The Influence Of Principal Leadership On Literate Practices And Instruction In A Middle School, Travis W. Duncan
Journal of Educational Leadership in Action
This case study uses Nicholls’s (1987) meta, macro, and micro levels of leadership merged with Dowell, Bickmore, and Hoewing (2012) and other literacy leadership research (Conley, 1989; Hall, Burns, & Edwards, 2011; Irvin, Meltzer, & Duke, 2007; Marks & Printy, 2003) to analyze the influence of a principal’s leadership on literacy instruction. The findings are similar to the integrated leadership approach emphasized in Marks and Printy (2003) but add additional evidence of cultural and human resource leadership. Strategies and structures that built culture around literate practices were evident. Teacher empowerment and building trust in school culture were important components.

Fostering And Assessing Law Student Teamwork And Team Leadership Skills, Neil Hamilton
Hofstra Law Review
Skills of teamwork and team leadership are foundational for many types of law practice, but how much instruction, supervised experience, assessment, and guided reflection on these two skills did each reader as a law student receive? Law schools' formal curricula, in the author's experience, historically have not given much attention to the development of these skills. There also has been little legal scholarship on how most effectively to foster law students' growth toward later stages of teamwork and team leadership. Legal education must do better.
What is the next step for the 58 law schools that have adopted a learning …
