Assia Djebar’S L’Amour, La Fantasia: The Autobiographical Instance Between History And Language, Fatima Zahra El Jamri
Assia Djebar’S L’Amour, La Fantasia: The Autobiographical Instance Between History And Language, Fatima Zahra El Jamri
SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism
In 1985, Assia DJEBAR published the first part of her autobiographical quartet L’amour, la Fantasia. A polyphonic narrative wherein the author tries to capture the echoes of these voices coming from afar, from her native Algeria, from those scattered villages in the Algerian mountains. It is a story claiming to rewrite the history of Algeria intertwined with the story of the young girl and her particular relationship to the French language. This paper questions the autobiographical element in its relation to History and the French language, which the author considers a means of emancipation from the auctorial faculty of the …

Some Palestinian Autobiographies Or ‘Only Palestine Is Real, Jacqueline Jondot
SOROUD: The journal of Literacy Criticism
This paper addresses the issue of writing reality and history in the autobiographies of some Palestinian writers. These autobiographies well directly from memories which become in the hands of their writers the only viable sources to document the Palestinian history. The position of the exile allows for the making of that history. The argument here goes to make these auto/biographies/ testimonials the raison-d’etre and the embodiment of a real Palestine.

System Branding In Three Public Libraries: Live Oak Public Libraries, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, And Richland Library, Patrick Roughen
System Branding In Three Public Libraries: Live Oak Public Libraries, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, And Richland Library, Patrick Roughen
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This article examines library catalogs as brand artifacts in the context of two ancient libraries: the Library of Alexandria and the library of the Temple of Horus at Edfu, Egypt. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of symbolic capital and brand theory, this research argues that the catalogs of these two institutions functioned as early branding instruments. The Pinakes, the catalog of the Library of Alexandria, projected a brand of universal knowledge and intellectual prestige, and the inscribed wall catalog at Edfu reflected a brand focused on sacred authority and the sustaining of cosmic order (Ma'at). Together, they illustrate two opposing …

Destined To Fail?: The U.S. Advisory Period And The Lost Path To Victory, 1960-1965, Alexander Patrick Fancher
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
South Vietnam experienced robust military and economic development between 1960 and 1963 under the leadership of President Ngo Dinh Diem. With the help of U.S. aid, the RVNAF improved its ability to wage war against the Viet Cong, while simultaneously pacifying the countryside. ARVN and VNN units developed new capabilities and trained officers to replace losses after the French Exodus from Vietnam. The introduction of U.S. advisors created the conditions necessary for the development of a young, inexperienced military. Acting as guides, these Americans were cautiously optimistic that South Vietnam was on the path to self-sufficiency by spring 1963 as …
A Critique Of Richard Carrier’S Jesus-Myth Theory: Examining Select References To The Historical Jesus In Paul’S Epistles, John P. Nichols
A Critique Of Richard Carrier’S Jesus-Myth Theory: Examining Select References To The Historical Jesus In Paul’S Epistles, John P. Nichols
Masters Theses
Richard Carrier is arguably the contemporary voice promoting Jesus-mythicism, the idea that Jesus of Nazareth never existed. Though in the scholarly minority, Carrier has assembled numerous arguments for rejecting the Gospels and Acts as historically reliable, as well as all historical references to Jesus in Paul’s letters. He has proposed his own rules for historical inquiry to replace the traditional criteria of authenticity used by historical-Jesus scholars. In conjunction with his own criteria, Carrier has demonstrated the use of Bayes’ Theorem to assess the probability of Jesus’ existence. This thesis has considered certain portions of Carrier’s thesis against the historical …
