From Dirt To Data: Resilience Stories In Ebp, Qi, And Research – We Are The Stories We Tell, Cecelia Lorayne Crawford, Hazel Torres
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose: Storytelling is foundational to the human experience and cuts across all cultures by conveying norms, ethics, and connectedness. Nursing narratives are used to relate stories of compassion, caring, and resilience. Research, evidence-based practice (EBP), and quality improvement (QI) also have their own stories of translating science into patient care. This presentation describes how resilient storytelling can integrate new knowledge in all settings, with “lessons-learned” for nurses globally, regardless of gender, generation, or culture.
Relevance/Significance: Research, EBP, and QI represent common ground for nurses to transform equitable care, engage nursing practice, and develop inclusive relationships. Literature discusses storytelling …

The Unvanquished: The Untold Story of Lincoln’s Special Forces, the Manhunt for Mosby’s Rangers, and the Shadow War That Forged America’s Special Operations, by Patrick K. O’Donnell and reviewed by Dr. Wylie W. Johnson, explores the Civil War–era precursors of today’s special operations forces. Broken into three sections, the book covers rival groups—the Jessie Scouts and Mosby’s Rangers, the Confederate Secret Service, and Sheridan’s Scouts and the retribution they wreaked upon their enemies. The reviewer calls it “. . . a strong …

Book Review: The Military Legacy Of Alexander The Great: Lessons For The Information Age, Jason W. Warren Phd
Parameters Bookshelf – Online Book Reviews
Author: Michael P. Ferguson and Ian Worthington
Reviewed by Jason W. Warren, PhD
The Military Legacy of Alexander the Great: Lessons for the Information Age focuses on three themes—inspirational physical presence, Alexander’s army’s professionalism, and the speed with which he campaigned. The reviewer notes there are many useful observations, overall, he sees the book as a “mixed bag.” For those newer to studies “on Alexander or lessons-learned methodology, Legacy may prove a useful primer.”

Suzanne Savaria, Postcards for the Environment: Pass It On
In this multistep activity, students will begin by looking at a history of letter writing in the US, touching on the history and importance of the practice. Next, students will focus on the interested stake-holders and possible recipients of their postcards. Lastly, students will create a first draft of the postcards, leaving the technology piece out of the equation at this step. This is an opportunity for students to be creative and advocate simultaneously.

“Lead”Ing Industrial Science: Studying Occupational Lead Poisoning In The Early 20th Century, Rebekah E. Dreyer-Rowe
Master's Theses and Capstones
Lead was essential to the creation and coalescence of industrial hygiene as a discipline in the United States from its early days in the 1910s through the 1930s when the first professional associations of industrial hygiene were formed. In the early years, Alice Hamilton was central to the burgeoning field, and her seminal study on lead poisoning in Illinois industries thrust both her and her methods into the spotlight. My arrival into this world came quickly, according to my mother, and it feels like my life has mirrored that rapid beginning. I have enjoyed a rich, varied, and stimulating life and career that have gone through several phases. I credit genetics, my family, technological advances, and many environmental factors for shaping my career. Being a virologist allowed me to be curious and creative and to make several unexpected discoveries. This has been a fun and rewarding journey, but it wasn't always easy. I am not accustomed to talking about myself, but I am happy to share some scientific achievements …
