I'm afraid you didnt get one of my letters till a day later, as No 7 (the overland at 4.40, you know) was late yesterday due to a washout in Kansas. No 7 carries all the San Francisco mail from …

Dear Mr Muir:
Katharine Graydon has been with us, and has told us how you are now in the deep waters. Let me express the hope that they will not quite go over you. It makes me sad to think I am likely never again to see Mrs. Muir, whom I had learned to respect so deeply. I can only hope and pray that fate may deal kindly with her, and with you.
I am thinking much of you these days, dear friend. How hard it must be for you all to have to …

Hello Desert Midge!
How are you today? You are escaping a lot of cold blue-gray fog. Last night it was worse than ever & the wind gave it a wolfish howling voice that discouraged even the coyotes & the poor lonesome loco locomotives.
We are all about as usual. Mamma complained of the fog last evening but is better this morning. We are impatiently awaiting the mail. Kindest regards to Miss Safford. Heaven bless you Darling. Write a little letter every day. We are lonely now.

Saturday morning.
Dear Wanda -
We are out in the desert not far from Winslow where we'll have breakfast. Yesterday along between Barstow and Needles it was good and hot and I felt a lot better. There has been hardly any dust so we keep our windows open all day and I breathe good dry air. Saw snow on the San Francisco peaks this morning. My fellow passengers spend most of their time groaning about the heat - poor thing! Tell Mama I saw a "leopard."
Love to all
