New Orleans, Louisiana, has a reputation for being one of the most haunted cities in America. Two of the most supposedly “haunted” buildings in the city are the Ursuline Convent, said to be home to vampires, and the Lalaurie mansion, said to be home to ghosts. Whether or not these spaces qualify as “haunted” is irrelevant; what this thesis concerns itself with is why these spaces are still being discussed today. Have you ever felt dissatisfied with the materials for your courses? We have a solution for you: create Open Educational Resources (OER)! OER are free, online teaching and learning materials that are licensed for instructors to use and customize in their courses. In this session, two faculty, a librarian, and an instructional designer with experience creating OER will guide attendees through activities to identify why and how OER can work for them. Attendees will brainstorm an OER for their course and learn about resources to help them turn their idea into a reality.

This article pushes towards the integration of the history of Black Adult Education (AE) into the broader history of AE literature and it contributes a critique of the field’s general omissions and misrepresentations of Black history. The purpose of this paper is twofold: (1) to critique the white-dominated history of AE texts and (2) to provide a historiographical essay that highlights works focused on the Black history of AE. In doing so, we offer a historical counternarrative rooted in the secondary historical literature that addresses the history of Black education. The research presented in this report focuses on the military purposes of Dutch Island from 1860-1900. Located in the West Passage of Narragansett Bay, Dutch Island was in a position to protect the bay and Newport Harbor from enemy attack. The first fortification on Dutch Island was called Camp Bailey which stationed the 14th Rhode Island Heavy Artillery during the Civil War in 1863. After the Civil War, fortifications continued to be built at a slow pace until the 1880s, when the Endicott Board of Fortifications and the need to update coastal defenses to modern standards led to the implementation …

Stanley Surrey is perhaps best known for his promotion of the concept of tax
expenditures—the characterization of various tax preferences as substitutes for
direct expenditures. That emphasis understates his lasting influence on the tax
policy process. An equally important and lasting achievement was establishing
and promoting the integrity and professionalism of the Treasury’s Office of Tax
Policy (OTP), while garnering the support of much of the wider tax policy
community for basing tax policy on the principles of fairness, simplicity, and
efficiency.

One Last Month is a young adult (YA) novella of roughly forty-three thousand words aimed at readers in middle school and in early high school grades. Structurally, it is an “ensemble Bildungsroman”, wherein all the main characters—rather than just one—embark on journeys of emotional growth and are given significant plot focus. Through the characters, One Last Month focuses on the importance and influence of non-romantic love, specifically through homosocial relationships between the novella’s male characters. It also touches on the process of grief beyond the Kübler-Ross structure and, though more subtly, emotional expression in young men. Through one of the …

In 2021 the Missoula Public Library opened in a new state-of-the-art building to include a science museum, a research facility, a family resource center, and a media resource center in addition to the library facilities, all providing free and low-cost programs to the public. This establishment, internally dubbed All Under One Roof (AUOR), offers a window into the culture of Missoula and provides the community myriad resources in one, co-located model that has never been seen in the United States. In the two decades since their adoption in 2001, the International Law Commission (ILC)’s Articles on the Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts (ASR) have had an extraordinary influence, not just on the field of international law generally, but also on the work of the ILC itself. Indeed, the ILC concluded four projects that directly resulted from or were closely related to the ASR in the first decade after its adoption. Moreover, references to the ASR have worked their way into most (albeit not all) of the ILC topics completed since 2001.

The U.S. Invasion Of The Dominican Republic: From Cooperation To Conquest, Andrew Defabio

This paper explores the political and military relationship between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic from the Eisenhower administration to the Johnson administration’s invasion in 1965. The U.S. intervention in the Dominican Republic was a military operation that had been planned and prepared for by administrations prior and not simply a reactive decision to prevent a Communist takeover. Analysis of multiple administrations places the invasion of the Dominican Republic in a larger context of U.S. – Dominican relations. The U.S.’s desire to dominate military and political aspects of the Dominican Republic is consistent with U.S. Cold War Latin American policy.

“Cyber Rollback” presents a portion of the effort of civilians to seize a warzone in cyberspace and make it free of violence even when facing the risk of violence. The participation of women in the Early Christian communities is widely accepted. Nevertheless, there is no consensus on what was their role in these communities. Until now the study of women in the Early Christian communities has focused mostly in the writings of some ancient authors and a few biblical texts. These studies have been done mostly by theologians and historians. Such studies rarely take a deep look at the Greco-Roman background and at the historical, socio-cultural contexts. The use tax was developed by states to complement the sales tax. The aim was to prevent residents from being able to avoid paying the sales tax by simply going to a different state to make a purchase. Unlike the sales tax, which is collected by businesses at the point of sale, the use tax is self-reported by individuals. Since its inception in the United States in the 1930s, compliance with the use tax has been close to zero.
