John Muir: A Reading Bibliography by Kimes (Muir articles 1866-1986)
THERE WERE two major objectives in John Muir's life. The first was to worship at nature's shrine; the second, to influence others to do likewise. His tireless wanderings on ,,ΓÇ₧ foot, from the Wisconsin farm to which his Scotch parents had taken him as a boy, first r^J^ into the wilds of Canada, then south to Florida, were but preparing the way for his explorations in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, in the wilds of Alaska, and later of South America, Australia and other remote lands. r┬º^S> Consequently all his writings were directed not merely toward entertaining his readers …

John Muir: A Reading Bibliography by Kimes (Muir articles 1866-1986)
JOHN MUIR AND RALPH WALDO EMERSON IN YOSEMITE GATHERED FROM THEIR WRITINGS AND CORRESPONDENCE By Samuel T. Farquhar IN the spring of 1871, Ralph Waldo Emerson, fatigued and worn by the strain of lecturing in Boston, accepted the invitation of John M. Forbes to be his guest on a trip in a private car to California. Eleven days were spent on the journey across the continent and the party arrived in San Francisco on April 21, and put up at the Occidental Hotel. On the second day after his arrival in California Emerson lectured in the Unitarian Church at the …

A Book Of The Law Quadrangle At The University Of Michigan, Fred Nathan
A Book Of The Law Quadrangle At The University Of Michigan, Fred Nathan
About the Buildings
William Wilson Cook ardently believed that the future of democratic institutions must depend in large measure upon the ability and integrity of the members of the legal profession. He hoped to improve the quality of the leadership provided by that profession by improving the law schools. As the immediate object of his philanthropy he chose his Alma Mater, The University of Michigan Law School. The Law Quadrangle is the physical embodiment of one aspect of his idea and marks a milestone in legal education. In making possible a close fellowship between lawyers, teachers, and students in an inspiring environment he …

An Historic Account Of Music Criticism And Music Critics In Utah, Basil Hansen
An Historic Account Of Music Criticism And Music Critics In Utah, Basil Hansen
Theses and Dissertations
My purpose in making a study of music criticism in Utah is to realize a reliable historical account of criticism as expressed by means of journals and the growth of music within the state. This study, it is granted, is not a complete history of music in Utah. It merely treats one phase of a yet unwritten history.
A secondary interest is to defend the assertion that Utah has had music criticism and not to eulogize or deride the music pioneers of the state. It may also impress the need of constructive criticism to insure the stimulus and incentive necessary …
