Recent Developments Concerning Accrediting Agencies In Postsecondary Education, Jeffrey C. Martin
Recent Developments Concerning Accrediting Agencies In Postsecondary Education, Jeffrey C. Martin
Law and Contemporary Problems
The relationship between private voluntary postsecondary accrediting agencies and the federal eligibility for student financial aid programs has attracted public scrutiny, due to the magnitude of loan defaults and the insistence of the agencies that accredited higher education institutions become more demographically diverse. The history of Department of Education recognition of such agencies is examined.

Prelude To The Great Society: Cultural Change In The 20th Century America, Julie Davis
Prelude To The Great Society: Cultural Change In The 20th Century America, Julie Davis
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
The decades immediately following World War II were prosperous but filled with great inequalities. Many social change movements, including the War on Poverty, attempted to eliminate these inequalities. Yet, programs as large and far reaching as these required many changes to the society itself. President Lyndon Johnson and Dr. Julius Richmond, director of Head Start, agreed that certain societal factors were necessary before social change could occur. Johnson felt that these conditions were "a recognition of need, a willingness to act, and someone to lead the effort" (Johnson The Vantage Point 70). The widespread existence of poverty in Post World …

Indiana's Civil Rights Commission: A History Of The First Five Years, David Sabol
Graduate Thesis Collection
Indiana's Civil Rights Commission evolved from the need to combat the often subtle racial injustices that permeated Hoosier society in the late 1950s and 1960s. A tradition of segregation along racial lines in Indiana was being challenged in the early 1960s by newly elected leaders who believed that their fellow black Hoosiers deserved to be treated fairly under the laws that were designed to protect their citizenship. For that reasonr Indiana's new leaders chose to create a state government agency based on the federal model for a civil rights commission. With the formation of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission [ICRC] …

Harlem Of The West: The Douglas Hotel & Creole Palace Nite Club, Micheal L. Austin
Theses
The purpose of the Master's thesis is to display the ability to do in depth research and present that information in a manner in which it will be of service. This project has been designed to preserve the memory of the Douglas Hotel and Creole Palace Night Club, the most remarkable hotel and night club ever to grace the city of San Diego. Located south of Broadway, the hotel and night club provided the only place of quality lodging and entertainment for Black visitors to the city of San Diego during a period of intense segregation in the United States. …
