A History Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In Australia To 1900, John D. Hawkes
A History Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In Australia To 1900, John D. Hawkes
Theses and Dissertations
This work is a history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) in Australia to 1900. The first Latter-day Saint missionary to Australia was William Barret, a British convert who left directly from England and arrived at Adelaide, South Australia in 1840. In approximately 1841 Elder Andrew Anderson, also from England, arrived with his family at Sydney, New South Wales. These two Elders proselyted for the church, but the extent of their work is uncertain.
John Murdock and Charles Wandell were the first missionaries from Utah; they arrived at Sydney in October, 1851. The appointment of these …

The Influence Of The Southern Nevada And Southern Utah Folklore Upon The Writings Of Dr. Juanita Brooks And Dr. Leroy R. Hafen, Pansy L. Hardy
The Influence Of The Southern Nevada And Southern Utah Folklore Upon The Writings Of Dr. Juanita Brooks And Dr. Leroy R. Hafen, Pansy L. Hardy
Theses and Dissertations
Since no writing is entirely objective, it is the contention of this thesis that Dr. Juanita Brooks and Dr. LeRoy R. Hafen, the most authoritative writers of the Southern Nevada and Southern Utah region, were greatly influenced in their writings by the folklore of the region and of the people. The two aspects of folklore which are most prominent in their writings are, first, those which treat the supernatural aspect of divine intervention, and, second, those which surround the struggle for survival.
Folklore stories of divine intervention include the lore of divine aid given in time of great need, divine …

The Life And Contributions Of Isaac Morley, Richard Henrie Morley
Theses and Dissertations
Isaac Morley was born in 1786, in the Atlantic seaboard city of Salem, Massachusetts. He received the common school education provided by the New England Schools. Like his father, Isaac learned the trade of cooper and wheelwright, learned to plant and sow, to reap a harvest, and to care for cattle and sheep.
He served his country with the Ohio Militia in the War of 1812. In 1830 he heard Mormon elders preach the gospel for the first time. He was convinced …
A History Of The Episcopal Church In Omaha From 1856 To 1964, James M. Robbins Jr
A History Of The Episcopal Church In Omaha From 1856 To 1964, James M. Robbins Jr
Student Work
There are three reasons for writing a history of the Episcopal Church in Omaha with an emphasis on the foundation years. This period covers the years 1856 to 1960. First, there is a desire for a complete understanding of the history of Omaha and the various institutions that helped to make the city. Second, there is a request to have a greater understanding of the development and growth of the State of Nebraska. And thirdly, there never has been a history of the activities of the Episcopal Church in Omaha.

Early Mormon Troubles In Mexico, Karl Young
Early Mormon Troubles In Mexico, Karl Young
BYU Studies
The Mormon colonizers who settled in Chihuahua, Mexico, faced hardships similar to those faced by others settling the frontier. Sickness, hunger, poverty, and natural disasters, combined with the threat of attacks from the native Indians, made life for these Latter-day Saints difficult. The author tells the stories of these Saints as they tried to make a home for themselves in Mexico during the time period 1885 to 1900.

Blair, situated on the Missouri River at the eastern edge of Nebraska, is in the original territory of Nebraska, opened for settlement by the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. (Figure 1, p. 2) Prior to this Act small settlements had been made at Fort Kearny, on the Platte River, and at Bellevue on the Missouri. There were ferry landings along the Missouri River that later became the towns of Nebraska City, Plattsmouth, and Omaha. The prospered because of river transportation and trails to the interior.
