The Development Of Missouri Valley, Iowa To 1931, John W. Gard
The Development Of Missouri Valley, Iowa To 1931, John W. Gard
Student Work
Before the late 1840's, no white men had settled the area of southwestern Iowa at the point where Harrison Country is now located. Moreover, only a few white men had cast eye upon its valleys, inhabited only by Indians and wild animals. Probably the first explorers to set foot in the area were Lewis and Clark, who, in 1804, ordered their men to pitch camp just below the mouth of the Soldier River in what is now Harrison County. Reports of rich fur resources soon brought a number of trappers and hunters who undoubtedly followed the streams of the area …
United States Foreign Policy With The Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics, 1945-1959, Otis C. Moore
United States Foreign Policy With The Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics, 1945-1959, Otis C. Moore
Student Work
This thesis considers the changes in United States relations with the Soviet Union after World War II. In discussing the major events which shaped the changes in policy, I have not addressed the details of the events themselves, since each in itself is worthy of a complete volume. Instead, I have limited by discussion to the broad indicators of diplomatic policy changes which resulted from the events.
The United States And Great Britain On The African Slave Trade, 1842-1862., Richard J. Bilger
The United States And Great Britain On The African Slave Trade, 1842-1862., Richard J. Bilger
Student Work
The African slave trade to the United States lasted for over two hundred and forty years, but it was in the course of the last twenty years from 1842-62 that the United States and Great Britain became mutally involved in its suppression. During this period, the United States and Great Britain emerged as the prime movers in the suppression of the slave trade. In the years just prior to and during the Civil War the two nations moved from an attitude of discord to one of cooperation. It is therefore the purpose of this thesis to present a drama of …

A Study Of The Activities Of James Dunwoody Bulloch: Confederate Naval Agent In Great Britain, Michael T. Young
A Study Of The Activities Of James Dunwoody Bulloch: Confederate Naval Agent In Great Britain, Michael T. Young
Student Work
When I first thought of writing this paper it seemed like an insurmountable task. I certainly would never have completed the task if it had not been for the capable advice and assistance of several people. I was bewildered in the entanglement of British-American relations seeking a possible thesis topic when I disintered the name of James Dunwoody Bulloch. James Bulloch was a Southern gentleman who had vision and ability. He was as valuable to the Confderate navy as Lee was to the Confederate Army. Bulloch's exploits were not recorded in the history books as arduously as were those of …

Kansas Mennonites During World War I, Arlyn John Parish
Kansas Mennonites During World War I, Arlyn John Parish
Fort Hays Studies Series
The story of the Mennonites of Kansas during World War I has never been told. This account should be of interest both as an incident in general Mennonite history and as an episode in the social history of the United States, for it demonstrates many of the problems of incorporating a minority group into the broader society.
